The Anchor in Danbury is the epitome of an English Country Inn, boasting beautiful traditional beams, quaint shining brass and a warm welcoming atmosphere which has made this pub a firm favourite for many years.
We have a lovely large garden with a fun children's play area, great for keeping the kids entertained while you catch up with friends and family over a relaxing drink or with some great food.
Four legged friends are welcome at the pub, please ask our friendly staff for confirmation on which areas can accommodate you as we do require that dogs are kept out of the main dinning areas. Please note reservations with a dog are necessary during busy periods, and can only be taken over the phone on 01245 222457 stating you have a dog.

Taking the family out for a meal here was just a lovely experience, from parking and seeing the beautiful flowers around the building, to paying the bill. Excellent menu, unusually good variety of vegetarian and vegan options. The food was just brilliant, (except the nicely plentiful gravy with the perfect steak and kidney pudding was very salty.) Good wine list, the Primitivo (2018) good but a little sharp, might benefit from lying down for another year.

The staff were very friendly and the menu was large and quite varied with a lot of specials. The starters were ok, the garlic bread accompanying the prawn and chorizo pil-pil wasn't really cooked and the garlic mushrooms didn't have much flavour at all and were watery.
For mains, the steak pie was dry, the roast lamb was dry and the gammon was overcooked. The hake special was very tasty, but again a little overcooked. Accompaniments were all pleasant enough but the new potatoes could have done with a few more minutes cooking and a bit more seasoning.
We did have a lovely evening but the food was disappointing overall.

Lovely, friendly atmosphere - attentive staff and plenty of choices from the menu plus the "Specials".
Had a great evening.

As usual the food was very good. I have been before a few times as a couple and I spread the word about how much we enjoyed it and was able to book a table for 6 people this time. However when I arrived two more people having heard from me how good it was had arrived so I went in to see if my booking could now be for 8 instead of six. I was ten minutes early so hoped they would have time to add another two places on. I was greeted and asked my name and when I enquired if they could set another two places the lady pulled a face and said they could probably squeeze another two on the table already laid. She didn't want to start moving tables as there was a party of ten already seated and she didn't want to disturb them. I apologised and felt very awkward but explained that had I known earlier I would have made contact but she was still pulling faces and tutting. She said she would see what she could do and could I go outside and wait. I was embarrassed and thought that the customer service could have been so much better. We did get a table for eight, but a lot of fuss was made about it by one particular staff member. It wouldn't have been so bad but there only one other party in the garden room, there was plenty of space. She was just rude. The rest of the staff were exceptionally nice.

Very pretty atmospheric pub. Plenty of charm. The whole place looked very clean and the staff were welcoming. Our party were seated and drinks were ordered very quickly. The meals we ordered were delicious and beautifully presented. The options on the board were varied and would surely suit everyone with an a la carte menu to choose from too. Two of our party had lovely salads which were huge! All in all a very nice experience.

The Anchor is a very attractive pub from the outside and pleasantly decorated inside.
The food and service were excellent, the Steak pie was probably the best I have ever had. All this at affordable prices.

We found the Anchor pub very pleasant, easy to find with good sign posts. Beautiful flowers in the front of the building. I had booked a table for 13.30but we turned up early and they said it was not a problem and got a table straight away. Food was quickly served and with a pleasant manner. Delicious choices of food on the special board as well as regulars.

went with vouchers that some of our friends kindly got us, ordered Plaice, chips veg
chips so soggy, half the Plaice was batter and the veg was so over cooked that i held up some broccoli and it slid down my hand, have heard really good reviews abut this place, but sadly not this time

Lovely pub, friendly staff, excellent choice of food including plenty for Veg/Vegan. Lovely ambience, Good facilities to eat outside, play area/garden. Food was lovely and hot, some starters/mains were better value than others but you don't know until you order a variety of meals.
Definitely go again.

Food was really good, shame they forgot both of the salads to go with our Scampi & never did arrive!!!

Unfortunately the waitress knocked one of the drinks over which went over my wife's trousers but apart from asking if we wanted to move, no real apology or did she need a cloth to dry them.

I always enjoy visiting the Anchor pub. We sat in the garden room and both enjoyed fish from the extensive specials menu. It is really great to have so much choice in a local pub. Cant wait for my next visit.

The ambience was good and the food good with good portions.

Booked for 5.00pm on a Friday and received a very warm welcome from all the team. Had a choice of tables and we were extremely impressed with the service and quality of food. Each course was cooked and presented to perfection. Not rushed through each course which was a bonus as the four of us had a lot of gossip to catch up with!! We have used the Anchor on many occasions and have never been disappointed. Keep up the great work. Thank you.

Pleasant country pub, lovely serving staff , good service. Excellent menu choice, large helpings, food very good. We will return but would want to sit in the pub section not in the extension which had a different atmosphere and noise level higher there.

Excellent menu. On line menu does not demonstrate the large choice of specials on offer, so not promoting it's best. Efficient staff. Obliging when asked for a small portion for elderly person, chef reduced size and. Enjoyable lunch.
