The Anchor Danbury
The Anchor in Danbury is the epitome of an English Country Inn, boasting beautiful traditional beams, quaint shining brass and a warm welcoming atmosphere which has made this pub a firm favourite for many years.
We have a lovely large garden with a fun children's play area, great for keeping the kids entertained while you catch up with friends and family over a relaxing drink or with some great food.
Four legged friends are welcome at the pub, please ask our friendly staff for confirmation on which areas can accommodate you as we do require that dogs are kept out of the main dinning areas. Please note reservations with a dog are necessary during busy periods, and can only be taken over the phone on 01245 222457 stating you have a dog.

A generous slice of shortcrust pastry pie, full of meat, served with a jug of rich stock gravy
Steak & Kidney Pudding
Individual suet pudding, packed full of prime beef & kidneys in gravy, served with onion rings and rich gravy
We always enjoy eating at the Anchor. The staff are very friendly, everything is clean (and Covid protocols followed). I am torn between their steak pie, which is packed with steak, and the steak and kidney pudding - both delicious with a selection of vegetables/salad and chips/new potatoes/mash. Usually too full to have dessert but we shared the minty After Eight torte.
The Anchor is a short walk and therefore very convenient. After many years of mediocre food etc. It is wonderful to eat in a pub that produces a very good standard of cuisine. The service was very good with the staff very willing and jolly. A difference much appreciated and barring Covid We will be regulars from now on.
Lovely meal and lovely staff.
Would highly recommend.
This was our second visit, this time for Sunday lunch. Good range of options, great food and good size portions. Staff are very friendly and happy to make the dinning experience a good one. Will be back soon as we are able!!

Great service, food and atmosphere. Our favourite last meal out before lockdown 2!
The staff were very friendly, the setting was rustic and clean giving a fantastic ambience. I would highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.
Good service and excellent food. This was our first visit, but we will definitely be going back.
Lovely staff and food was fabulous as always. Will always come back here.
We are not regular custom due to the distance we have travel, but have been coming here for at least 8 years, on and off. Have never been disappointed when we have may the effort to dine there. They alway have a good selection of real ales and all the food served, is great. We also feel comfortable going there in these strange times (Covid=19)
Friendly staff with exceptional service.
Easy to book, friendly welcome, excellent Covid precautions, felt very safe, excellent service, good food and drink. Second visit in lock down situation
Very covid safe. Lovely staff. Great Food!
We were very satisfied with our visit.
Very good friendly service and food also excellent. We sat in the old conservatory which has been rebuilt and redesigned. Very relaxing decor and really pleasant atmosphere.
The Anchor, Danbury, is a jewel in the Crown that is Essex. Don't let on, but The Anchor is just a wonderful place to eat. The food is great and the ambience perfect. If the staff smiled a bit and were a tad more friendly, the whole experience would be just as good as it gets. Tell them to change the sweet menu, though, as it's been the same for several years!
I recommend this place to everyone that will listen.
Always delicious food and friendly service. Beautiful decorated throughout.
Great service and following social distancing very well. Had a super lunch again and will def be returning!
It was my fortnightly visit to the Anchor. Also I have never sat or even been in the saloon area before!
Since it felt like autumn we both ate from the specials menu. We both had the pork steak with a leeks and bacon creamy sauce. I had mash and my friend a jacket potato. The food was just divine.
Service was great per usual and we look forward to being back in 2 weeks.
Atmosphere was quiet due to Covid-19 restrictions but food was very good
Nice welcoming entry with no problems, shown straight to our table and given menu also informed about the day’s special board for nice alternatives.
This is a lovely welcoming pub restaurant with staff making you feel at home and attending to all your needs. Pleasant ambience and comfort.
Will definitely return
Food and service really good as usual. Menu little limited but understandable. Good Covid practise.
Easy to book a table at short notice, the roast dinner was nice only beef was available but as mentioned was short notice and late in the day on a Sunday.
Nice size pub, staff all friendly- just hope these government restrictions get lifted and can enjoy a normal pub again!
Went out for late lunch with 4 friends and had a lovely meal would definitely recommend and will be going back in the future!
COVID precautions very good and encouraging. Welcoming staff, tables arranged in a safe manner.
Waiting staff very attentive and efficient. Food well presented and good value. Enjoyed the current guest ale.
