The Anchor Danbury
Please call us to make a booking for Sunday 22nd March. Our Mothers Day menu is available to view on our website.
The Anchor in Danbury is the epitome of an English Country Inn, boasting beautiful traditional beams, quaint shining brass and a warm welcoming atmosphere which has made this pub a firm favourite for many years.
We have a lovely large garden with a fun children's play area, great for keeping the kids entertained while you catch up with friends and family over a relaxing drink or with some great food.
Four legged friends are welcome at the pub, please ask our friendly staff for confirmation on which areas can accommodate you as we do require that dogs are kept out of the main dinning areas. Please note reservations with a dog are necessary during busy periods, and can only be taken over the phone on 01245 222457 stating you have a dog.
I really enjoy visiting the Anchor and did not realise that this was to be my last visit for a long while. We both had the fillet steak with dauphinoise potatoes from the specials. I cannot begin to say how delicious it was.
Wishing the owners and the staff all my thoughts during these difficult times and look forward to visiting when you reopen
Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. The food was nice and presented well
Service and staff were lovely; however, the food was bang average. I ordered potato skins which you would expect them to be loaded with cream cheese, or bacon.... no they were literally deep fried potato skins, with the middle taken out. I did ask to change my starter as it wasn't at all what I was expecting, the chef said I could be he would have to charge me, which in my eyes to keep a customer happy you'd exchange it for the sake of £5, because now we will most certainly not be returning. Hes reasoning was that it would now be wasted.... well it still was as I refused to eat it. The scotch egg (a special, only one scotch egg) was so dry and hard boiled, it came with an obscene amount of chips and salad and cost me £15.95 - absolute rip off if you ask me. My husbands roast beef was what you'd expect from a school dinner. Apart from that everyone else enjoyed their meals. Steak Pie (looked really yummy), halloumi fries and the Pork Roast.
The pub its self is beautiful with gorgeous flower arrangements outside and inside it boasts a lovely ambiance, it was just a shame the food was not up to scratch. Therefore we will not be returning, unless it was for a drink.
Nice evening at the Anchor with friends.
Very good portions here. The food as always was excellent. Recommend the Steak pie, its filled to the top, no gaps between pastry and meat. The Scampi was so succulent. Our friends had Sea Bass which they really enjoyed too.
Good food and service as usual, the Anchor is consistent on each of our visits. The extensive menu and Specials board give a huge choice.
Really enjoyed our second visit. Had to wait a while for our starters owing to a large group order ahead of us and staff could have been a little more attentive on drinks.
BUT, a lovely meal in a lovely place with friendly staff. That is what was most important and we will frequent this little gem again for certain!
Lovely lunch . Fish and chips were great. Good size portions , and reasonably priced .
I really do enjoy visiting the Anchor and my friend and I visit here every 6 weeks :)
This time we enjoyed eating from the specials and both had the chilli squid followed by for me the sole with butter and my friend the salmon.
Lovely food as always with friendly helpful staff.
We visit two or three times a year [including one funeral wake in the past}and would always consider further visits. I never give 100% stars as all pub services vary from visit to visit. Bear in mind there is a lot of good competition locally and I like a change of venue. Just keep up the good work!
Lovely food in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Very enjoyable pub for lunch.
The Anchor is a heavily beamed pub with lots of atmosphere in its main bar and also has a warm and inviting conservatory.
The food is good pub grub with a good selection of specials on the board each week.
The food is reliably good, service is usually prompt and pleasant.
There is a good size car park and garden for summer.
Order brought our wrong more than once, food undercooked. No where near the previous standards but won’t be going back anymore now.
A very pleasant experience for a catch up with a friend for lunch. Waitress very welcoming and helpful. We liked it so much we have booked again. My friend being a vegetarian was pleased with the menu choice. My only criticism would be that it smelt like a chip shop.
First visit for a few years, was received with a friendly welcome and drinks at the bar (always a good range of real ales) before being taken through to the new extension replacing the old glass conservatory, this area was cosy and with the vaulted ceiling helped this space to be not too noisy.
The draw of this place is not only a good pub menu but always a good selection of specials on the regularly changing blackboard with some great fish options.
All the food ordered was fresh, tasty and plentiful with an attentive service to make the whole experience a good one and look forward to returning soon!
All ok except the cakes, that were ordinary. Scone was hard, orange cake was too big and a bit sickly.
Beautiful sandwiches, tea and coffee, great service in a perfect venue.
Would recommend and will have afternoon tea there again.
Fantastic little venue for a really good quality gastro pub experience. The portion sizes were ample, the food top notch and the service was brilliant. Lovely decor and relaxed atmosphere. I've no idea why it wasn't fully booked for Valentines but I'm really glad it wasn't! Will go back again.
Always a lovely meal and the staff are always friendly
Excellent meal and service. The only complaint would be the noise level. Because of the wooden floor and high ceiling it was very noisy.
Since recently discovering the Anchor we have visited three times and recommended to friends who have visited. Great food and good atmosphere.
Lovely food, my vegetarian friend was very nicely surprised at the choice if vegetarian dishes. We both enjoyed our meal.
The only one small complaint, we bith irdered de caff coffe and it was awful, very bitter and we coukd not drink it.
Overall a very nice eve and would certainly visit again.
Very nice food and service as per usual. and as asked we were put in a nice and quite place.
Lovely home cooked food and always hot . Good choice of dessert too.
Second visit this month .. excellent food and service and a lovely atmosphere too . We will be back very soon
Lots of choice in the menu and also a specials board. Food was great and portion sizes were not too small, in fact I couldn't finish all my main course. The three of us opted for no starter as we wanted a dessert and we certainly could not have managed all three courses. Lovely venue and staff were excellent and could not be faulted.
Another perfect meal for all of us, service is exceptional.
Exvellent food every time we have eaten here over the last 10 years would recommend to anyone
Delicious food and a great service! We’ll definitely come back again.
A brilliant experience, food, service, atmosphere, all excellent.
Lovely Sunday lunch at the anchor always look forward to eating here lovely place to dine out.
The food was amazing
If I was to be really picky,I asked two different people for a slice of lemon in a diet coke, which didn't happen...but hey-ho..
The Anchor has a wide ranging menu, and also has a large selection of Specials on the board. They were mainly fish when we visited and we were spoilt for choice. Everything is freshly cooked. We always enjoy the fish pie and the steak pie. The meals are filling and we have never been able to manage a dessert, although they look tempting.
We had the table that is squashed into an area next to the Ladies Toilet entrance. There were other tables available, it transpired, so why put us on this one? F we had known we would have moved or left. The food was mixed. The vegetarian dishes were ok but certainly not inspired. The fish and chips was very good. The staff seemed rushed and not particularly attentive. It was busy but not full. Overall this lead to a "canteen" ambience.
Was my first visit of the year and and enjoyable one too.
We ate from the specials both having the stuffed mushroom followed by the minted lamb pudding with mash. Just delicious.
Great service per usual sitting in the garden room.
Can't wait to return soon.
Come here quiet often also brought family & friends who have returned time & again. Best pub restaurant for home cooked food very good sevice with a good selection of specials. Highly recommend. Would advise to book because it is very popular
A warm welcome with great service, followed by a very reasonable bill.
All together excellent.
Food was fairly poor, service was slow. Recommend only for drinks
I am a regular visitor to the Anchor, but unfortunately on this visit the food was not up to their usual excellent standard.
We both eat from the specials, I had the plaice with lemon sauce and my friend the salmon with stir-fried veg and noodles. It was a shame that both fish were overcooked :(
It was the first time this has happened, so will not stop me visiting again in a few weeks
Lovely meal at the Anchor food lovely
I do enjoy visiting the Anchor and today was no exception.
It was very busy, but the service was still great. Was a chat up with friends that I had not seen in years and though busy, we were never rushed. We therefore enjoyed a leisurely 3 courses which were all excellent.
Will be back soon.
