the anchor inn
For the hungry, our chef combines fine local foods with traditional pub fare, served alongside regional cask ales, spirits and carefully selected wines.
As well as the spacious dining area we have a vibrant front bar and a more cosy back bar alongside the restaurant and function room, which features an inglenook fireplace.
We have guest rooms available for those who want a comfortable and welcoming base for exploring our beautiful countryside.
Whether you’re joining us for a pint, a quiet meal or a family celebration, you’ll always find a warm welcome at The Anchor.
We had a fabulous Sunday lunch for the whole family with age range from 5 to 81. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the food was delicious!
Fantastic pub, friendly and efficient staff, excellent food. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Much improved, feel that it now is trying to serve interesting dishes. A bit on the expensive end of the spectrum.
Very friendly staff and freshly cooked delicious food. Great selection on the menu
Made very welcome (as was the dog!) and the food was good and plentiful (one of us took half her dish home as it was delicious).
Lovely great for Sunday lunch, good walks nearby, easy parking, outside gardens and dog friendly.
Went for lunch with a friend. The service was great and we felt like valued customers. Lovely food. I’d recommend the Anchor
Quiet pub, but not much atmosphere. Food was okay but not very inspiring, wasn’t asked if we wanted any other course and had to ask for tea and coffee. Cup of tea had the tea bag left in the cup!
We where in the new dinning room would rather have sat in bar area the food and service was good and will be going back
Had a lovely meal in this charming old pub, which has been very tastefully renovated. The service was friendly and efficient and the food delicious. We also stayed in the pub and our room was gorgeous.
We enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant part of the pub and were very well looked after. Manager Jonti is very personable and it is nice to see this lovely old pub back on the map.
A splendid lunch in a very nice traditional pub. Friendly staff roaring log fire.
Thoroughly enjoyed by our party two of whom were from Australia.
Food was good, staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all a great day in a great place !
Lovely pub, very friendly and accommodating.
Sunday roast was delicious, generous and served swiftly.
Yes definitely!! A very lovely meal was enjoyed by all of us for a family lunch last Sunday. All good!
Lovely local pub with great beer & delicious food in generous portions. Perfect stop on a day-long cycle ride.
Just so disappointing. The main courses were very late being served due to staff miscommunication and two out of three meals were cold when they arrived. They were returned to the kitchen and to be fair the waitress apologised and refunded them but it ruined our day out with a friend who ended up not eating a main course and we didn't stay for desserts or coffee. We have since heard that another neighbour also complained about the roast too. Unfortunately this was the second unsatisfactory meal we have had there in 6 months, both times although the veg were nice, the roast beef was fatty, the Yorkshire Pudding cold and solid and the second meal inedible - the first time it was a fish curry that tasted very strange. We were particularly disappointed to have this experience a second time as it's a great local pub under relatively new ownership. The fish pie on this occasion was good and was served piping hot but to have to wait an hour for it and in the meantime for the burger and chips and the roast to be left to go cold is inexcusable. Great venue and place for a beer and snack near Ashdown Forest but we were not even offered a voucher for a meal to try again despite explaining that it was our second poor meal there. We live locally and rumours were that the pub had a new chef but if they are getting a new one, or a new sous chef or even just extra help in the kitchen that would without doubt improve the current situation then I hope it is advertised widely as we would like to support local but not with the quality of meals and service received on the last two occasions we came in and in fact to be honest for the battered fish snacks we ate in the garden in the summer twice either. The pub is lovely but there are enough good local food options to not bother going back until necessary changes are made. Disappointing.
Great attention from the bar staff and restaurant staff. Food was really lovely. Tasty, well presented and good portions. Had a few conversations with the owner who was friendly, polite and good fun!
An excellent meal readily tweaked to suit our palates and preferences. Relaxed but alert service. Beautifully maintained oak beams and roaring fire, spotlessly clean.
Shame about the very slow service as the food was good
