The staff were friendly and the setting very picturesque, however, the food was terrible. I ordered a pork loin roast. My partner ordered chicken roast dinner. Both meals came out luke warm at best with a chewy parsnip each. My pork loin was more like pork belly but not roasted slowly so the fat reduces. It was mostly fat and the little meat had no flavour. My partners chicken was ok. Our Yorkshire puddings were almost black and were so hard they could have been used as weapons! I asked the waitress to bring us some fresh ones, they were exactly the same but one was actually frozen at the bottom! I was given some beef as an alternative to the fatty pork. It had no flavour either and I didn’t eat it. The manager had no real reasoning for these issues other than the Yorkshire puddings are cooked on the morning and reheated during the day. It was the general theme of our dinner, poorly reheated flavourless food.

Lovely setting by the river but the food was disappointing, three of us had a roast dinner, yorkshires were burnt and the rest was very average. We did also have a piece of pasta underneath the roast potatoes in the gravy. We did speak to the waitress about this and the yorkshires (who we must say was very good) and she spoke to her manager who in turn came and spoke to us. She was apologetic on behalf of the chef but then came up with all the reasons this could of happened. We were offered 2 free desserts as compensation but we did not want dessert. When we received the bill they had taken off the price of the cauliflower cheese (as this was an extra charge of £3.50) not included in the £17 per person for a Sunday roast, one course and 10% of the food bill, not including the drinks. Overall I would say the expensive prices are probably down to location rather than the quality of the food.

Overpriced and over zealous “host” unable to see that leaving people to fry in very hot sun was not really on when there were empty shady tables. Batter on fish flaccid. Beer nice.

Nice spot for drinks but I’d recommend eating elsewhere. We were sever cold chips twice, the seafood platter was really poor and served on a plastic tray. Bread rolls were basic and straight out of the freezer. Not acceptable at £50/head.

Our service was excellent. Lots of staff about to check we was ok for food and drinks and clearing the tables was efficient. Unfortunately our food wasn’t amazing. Starter was delicious which we shared. (Crispy chilli beef) Our mains were very oily and chips just warm (burger) Other main was nice but again warm and a bit soggy from the sauce (chicken curry) Dessert was just ok definitely had better cheesecakes. Beautiful outdoor seating area especially if you just fancy a few drinks. Indoors looked a bit doom and gloom, probably cosy in the winter.

Just had fish and chips which was nice. Our only moan is that condiments are delivered to the table in those stupid impossible to open tiny packets so we spent half the time trying to open ketchup and mayonnaise packets with our teeth. I know that during the serious Covid times condiments were generally served in packets , but when you are paying £18 for fish and chips you expect decently presented quality condiments

We arrived by river for a 2pm booking just behind another large group. Staff attended to us instantly and were happy to move us from a shady spot into full sun by our request as several of our party of 7 were dripping wet! Outside patio had a lovely relaxed vibe with beautiful scenery. Food was absolutely delicious too - everyone was happy with their meal. We’ll definitely be back.

The Anchor is beautiful and wonderfully located in a scenic village. The food was very good quality, appeared to be locally sourced and the staff knowledgeable. It was a little pricey, but the menu had a little cache - so it was worth it. We would return.

Went above and beyond including phoning ahead when the weather turned to see if we wished to swap to an indoor table. Ended up with a private dining room! Very friendly staff, first class service and food is a very good standard. Generous portion sizes on the Sunday roast dinners. Would go back.

It’s a lovely place and a glorious setting , the staff were very attentive and the service was quick . Maybe it was my fault for going for the traditional steak and chips which was slightly overpriced for what you got ( £30 for sirloin )

Our meals came out before our drinks even though we ordered them first. Other than the chilli beef, our meals were very disappointing, the crab burger was battered as opposed to a crab patty so very little crab to taste Unfortunately I wouldn’t rush back.

The Anchor Inn at Nayland always used to be very welcoming, whether you were on foot, on the water or by car but this does not seem to be the case anymore. It has gone from a quiet little country pub, to trying to get as much custom as they can, so it has lost that personal touch, we used to love going there for.

Very nice location with beer garden on the river. We wanted to paddleboard to a pub near to where we were staying and this was our only option. We had looked at the menu online so knew it would be pricey but the food was just average. The Brazilian curry was bland and very overpriced. The kids burgers were good but not significantly better than other good pub burgers so did not justify the extra £3. Service was average. The kitchen did do a child size portion of a main course for us which was good of them. Overall its a nice pub in a very pretty location in an expensive area. We were hoping to be wowed but just felt a bit ripped off.

We've been going to the Anchor for a few years now. We love it there and it's also in a lovely location. Indeed, I've rebooked for next Sunday and taking my son along. We also have stopped there for a meal when we did canoeing from Rushbanks camping site. Will always be visiting when we're in Suffolk.
