The outside space looks lovely. The app didn’t work for us so we ordered with a waiter! Thanks!
The menu is quite simple with a good choice. The kebabs were tasty. My fish and chips was disappointing. The fish was very thin and the batter was overdone for my taste. I will try something else next time.
A very enjoyable lunch with excellent and friendly staff. The outside space was practical and attractive.
Was great despite the weather. Outside area and heaters were great. Japanese street food truck was also a winner !
Japanese pop up! Great food. Brilliant service. Great time had by all even in the pouring rain. The music was a little loud - if you were trying to chat across tables (as we were) but that’s a very minor point. The chicken karage was the star of the show!!!
Nice atmosphere in the garden. The garden is covered in case of rain which is handy. Fairly quick service
Great fun atmosphere. Delicious pop up food from Mexican stall
Lovely ambience outdoors and table sheltered from the rain and warm as a result of outdoor heater. Unable to order food as could only book bar table and service was slightly slow but overall a very pleasant experience and would definitely return.
Lovely waiters working hard as always.
The rain cover was lovely with the lights on it. Not too keen on the gravel floor outside.
Good food, very slow service. Waited 35 minutes for our food.
Best place in Oxford
We liked what you had done in the courtyard. Somewhat pricey menu but we understand it’s difficult for all.
Under marquee outside due to Covid restrictions. Very cold,
especially as under shade and heater far away.
Food was good although for some reason dessert order hadn’t gone through. They did bring it quickly once we’d finished our coffee and asked, but don’t think the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was worth the £6.
Appreciate them trying hard in these challenging times. Hopefully they will be back up to scratch once restrictions (hopefully) lift.
Food was acceptable but uninspired and distinctly poor value. Staff very attentive and friendly. Probably better for an evening drink with a crowd than a weekday lunch.
Great place. Good food and very attentive service.
Outstanding Sunday roast in a lovely pub garden area
The Anchor is a great choice to have drinks and dinner especially their Sunday Roast - it was lovely! With social distancing tables under their marquee with heaters, speakers and a great atmosphere, The Anchor is head and shoulders above all the other places we had booked that weekend.
The app to order food and drink was easy and the service was quick. The whole experience was pleasant and we're looking forward to going back even when it's cold so we can dine indoors as the interior is to be admired too.
All was good however, we ordered some dishes that we thought would be child friendly according to what we read on the app but when the dishes arrived they all had some form of spice in them that were not always listed ie the feta dish and the mozzarella. The halloumi fries mention a harissa ‘dip’ but came already dressed on the halloumi. The children didn’t eat any food ordered
We had an amazing time thanks to the wonderful staff! Well done guys !
Helpful staff, prompt service, smooth and efficient - a great afternoon had by all.
The food was great, speedy service given how busy it was and a lovely atmosphere.
I ordered an all vegan menu and received fish that was advertised to me as a vegan alternative after waiting for 90 min. I received no replacement even after the manager had confirmed and apologised for the confusion. We received a refund for the food.
I was really disappointed, after booking a table at the anchor in advance and then driving to Oxford from London to take my mum out for dinner after not seeing her for months due to her shielding. We arrived at the restaurant and as I was walking in I received a call informing me that they had run out of food??? Firstly I understand how busy and difficult it’s been for pubs and restaurants to cope with the demand but there is no way that 5 mins ahead of a dinner booking it’s acceptable to tell guests that you can’t cater for them. Sadly everything else in the area was fully booked and it ended in a long journey for nothing. There’s no way you suddenly run out of an entire menu without some knowledge your running low - perhaps call your guests in advance if you don’t think you can service them
Had some frustrations using the Anchor's website to order online – kept "timing out". Staff were helpful and sorted it F2F after getting their attention.
Nice atmosphere in the large yard. Good food.
The Anchor has nailed lockdown dining - almost felt like normal life eating there. Great service, delicious food and fun ambience.
Nice pub but we booked for dinner and drinks and weren’t allowed to get dinner as we were in the wrong area. Also no drinks on tap :(
Excellent service (app works well) and setting is very pretty and warm despite the chilly evening. Fab ambience. A great first night out of lockdown :-)
Great to eat out
Speedy service and great food
Busy and good atmosphere thank you
Love coming to the Anchor
Lovely staff and Piers is always amazing
There wasn't the option to eat which is understandable but when ordering drinks through the qr scan the beer options had gone as did the ciders. Only options at 1 point was cocktails.
Awful service. Total disappointment. We booked a table for 4 persons outside for dinner. But when we arrived, the kitchen was closed, the food ran out. It was only just 3 pm. The pub only offered drinks. Our hungry, crying children were very unhappy. We've wasted our time.
Busy and good but service was all remote. We were also asked to leave our table after 30 minutes even though when we booked it stated 2hrs. They came and apologised and said we could stay, so thankful.
The outdoor space they have created is fantastic!
Gorgeous setting, lovely staff and incredible food!! I can’t wait to go back!
Good service, good food and nice outside area for a sunny afternoon
Amazing service! Service was very quick and efficient. Staff were very friendly and helpful!
Really good service, although when booked I didnt seem to notice there was no food served.
The waitstaff was disorganized, which is my only complaint about my experience at The Anchor. While I understand being busy, the staff seemed very inexperienced and were slow to serve us or inform of us of menu/drink choices.
Just came for drinks on Friday night and had an amazing evening. Piers and the team have absolutely smashed this post-covid opening and should be buzzing with the achievement! We’ll be back very soon.
Lovely lunch and so nice to be out again. Food was perfectly pleasant although I did feel the wine was a little pricey.
The service was brilliant with the waiting staff happy to help us through negotiating paying via our phones.
We went on a very busy evening, outside dining only allowed at this time. Although there are some heaters, we were sat in a very cold spot. We had brought rugs but still cold.
Service was slow but cheerful and apologetic. Food delicious but a very small choice. We had to order our food and drinks online via our phone. Noise level so high it made it difficult to talk. We would go again but when it gets warmer or inside dining allowed.
