The plus is being able to eat outside in a nicely set up sheltered area; the table service was Ok - friendly and efficient - but the two times I have now eaten there the main course (kebab or salad) was stodgy; kebab parked on top of flatbread, 'salad' a pile of quinoa or cous cous sheltering some pieces of squash. Not eatable. Would recommend only for a drink and maybe a small bar snack.
It was very busy and so the service was quite slow. Staff were friendly and pleasant.
Fantastic food, ate outside under the tent which was warm and cosy. Service was good and the food was restaurant standard.
Great food for a pub, outdoor seating with heat lamps too
Sorry to say this pub has gone hugely downhill in terms of food. Such a shame.
They seemed to be operating with a couple of brand new staff who weren't quite clear on what was going on. However the regular staff were fine and the food was fine (tapas night when we went)
We had dinner on a tapas and paella evening, but by 7.20 pm there were no paellas left so the menu felt very reduced.
A very easy booking system. The table we had was just what we wanted and the service friendly and timely. The food and drink were good too. Well done.
Great menu, service and friendly welcoming staff
Good robust pub food, decent choice, cooked well. Very good service.
The Anchor which I have used many times is currently a disaster. The expansion of tables outside has not been met by the growth in staff. We were greeted with the welcome “the kitchen is highly stressed” and indeed it was with poor availability, minimal service and a desperately average experience. The expansion of the tent into the car park one imagines to be an abomination for the neighbours who must be running out of patience - clue: the blackboard asking people to leave quietly when hordes had been shrieking all evening. One to avoid until they get a grip
Nice and quiet indoors, as the outdoors area was pretty busy. Excellent food and friendly service. We both chose steak, and it was the best that we have had in ages!
Lovely meal, varied menu and great food. We sat outside under the canopy which was perfect for this time of year. Food also very reasonably priced for Oxford.
The bars staff upon entry where just messing around and one of them was on his mobile phone. They didn’t do kids menu so had to pay 32 pounds for to roast dinners for the kids. which is ridiculous. Food was ok but roast but portions were smelling considering the cost.
The food was good - great menu choice but sadly the service let the whole evening down.
Had to ask for drinks after waiting 30 mins after arrival - had to ask to place order- 5 meals arrived but 3 meals didn’t arrive - the waiter didn’t apologise or say anything.
We had to go over to the till to ask where they were as the waiter had disappeared.
The sides didn’t arrive at all
Very very disappointing for a celebration meal
Excellent food, very slow service but would go back.
Food was disappointing. The service was casual at best by what seemed like a bunch of 16 year olds who knew nothing about service and laughed raucously behind the bar. Thus the ambiance was poor. A shame as we’d had high hopes.
Fun place to have brunch. Décor a bit basic but food well presented and tasty. Friendly staff
Great food choice, lovely garden area. Ordering everything in the app including extra drinks is painful. It would be nice to have more staff interaction!
Delicious al fresco lunch with friends at The Anchor. Great atmosphere and service.
Waitress was lovely - knew menus of food and drinks with good recommendations.
Lovely outdoor space. Tables rather narrow and benches not very comfortable but food and service v good
Lovely meal great service. Would be good if they could offer a vegan nut free option if possible.
Pleasant surprise .
Attentive service and tasty sharing platter.
Very friendly staff .
Really easy to book, turn up and eat a delicious range of food. Good veggie options and relaxing atmosphere.
Not too many people, not too much noise - a very pleasant setting in which to have a drink on a Sunday evening.
Lovely atmosphere and really good food. Will go again!
Slow service, food was cold but very good when it was replaced. Dissaointing experience.
Lovely pizza. Quite a long wait for it though. Also slow service for the drinks. HATE the app for ordering etc and surely they miss out as we were never going to add more drinks etc later on!
Great food and service. Impressive menu and all v pleasant
Amazing food and service!
We absolutely loved our meal at The Anchor. The outdoor seating area is great, even on a wetter day and the staff were excellent (really made a fuss of our baby, which we loved!). The food was also delicious and they were very good with allergies. A great experience overall and we will be back!
Another enjoyable evening outdoors at The Anchor- lovely staff, reasonably priced menu and great atmosphere.
One of us had special requirements and these were not only fulfilled, but additional suggestions and substitutions were made by the chef. Much appreciated!
I have been to the Anchor a number of times and am never disappointed. The staff are so friendly and helpful, I can’t wait for my next visit.
Always a lovely time. Food and service faultless. Love the outdoor space they’ve added; hope it is permanent! Great ambiance. Love that you can order through the table and your phone. Also liked that the Covid precautions are still in place. Staff wearing masks etc. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Excellent paella. Friendly and quick service. Clean and nice environment. Music gave good atmosphere. Tapas dishes a bit overpriced but on the whole excellent evening.
Good distanced outdoor seating under cover. Lovely lamb kebab on house-made flatbread. Delicious. Easy to order via QR code link to website -- fast service.
Lovely food - only disappointment was chicken mezze had very small salad and only 3 bits of chicken and chicken was not hot. But everything else was really fab and staff were excellent
We loved the Anchor before Brexit/Covid, and we are willing to accept issues related to these new challenges. But the food is expensive and the last two times that we have eaten there we have not felt that it was worth it. Our table was in the blazing sun and the staff would not move us to one of the many empty tables. And the food was not good enough- e.g. monkfish felt like it lived most its life in a freezer, dry hamburger drenched in sauce. I have had some good salads in the past- I remember the baby gem with a dijon dressing. But now its old greens without any dressing - yet some how soggy. Finally, portion size has gone down since re-opening.
