Helpful staff and a pleasant atmosphere the food is alright too.
The food was excellent - all three of us enjoyed our meals, starters, and dessert. Service was friendly and good - just slow because they seem to be understaffed.
We had a really good meal and the service was excellent. We will definitely return.
Food overpriced and very average. Brie starter particularly. Staff new and very sweet girl, but not had enough training-knew literally nothing about wine. Asked if there was a house Sauvignon, and she said she’d find out only to come back and say, no only red, white or rose
What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon: fantastic food and people watching when the sun is out. The service wasn't the greatest to start I have to say as we waited well over 20 minutes for our drinks order and had to wait again to for our food order! We did mention this to a member of staff and the service improved suddenly so can only put it down the the fact they were very busy.
Once the food arrived, we were not complaining - I had roast lamb rump and my partner had a rib eye and we ate every last bit! Food was fantastic!
Service was excellent as was the food.
Unfortunately, the fire alarm kept going off which made us quite anxious. However a waitress said there was no fire but alarm kept going off and was very loud as was very close to our table.
The restaurant has been completely refurbished and the menu updated. Everything was excellent and we will be returning regularly.
There was no one manning the entrance to the restaurant when we arrived, the only member of staff around was more interested in paperwork than serving customers. The people before me had clearly been waiting for someone to turn up. After asking if we were together (no) finally showed them to a table and left me standing by the entrance while he served customers at the bar (which was not busy!). I sat myself down in the end. The waitress who later turned up was professional and attentive. However the same guy reappeared at 10.20 to hurry us out as he said the restaurant was closing. There were still a number of customers in the bar. Clearly customers aren’t his priority! Otherwise reasonable food for the price
Nice pub however we had a new member of staff who struggled with our order. She was very nice, and apologetic. The food was nice and the portions large. Even though this first experience wasn’t the best I would go back.
Good spot for a lunchtime meeting. No nonsense food, well prepared and served with a huge smile
Good choice of menu at a reasonable price, excellent service
Nice but a bit noisy with lots of kids in the restaurant - certainly a Family friendly venue.
The food was good but the service was terrible. Too few staff to cope with the number of customers. Will not go again unless we are advised staffing has been greatly improved. It's a shame because we have been a number of times before but this was the worst experience.
Lovely location and nice open bar space to enjoy a few drinks prior to sitting down. However, we were left really disappointed with the speed of service, or more to the point lack of service! We had to repeatedly call the staff to take our drinks order and food order. We ordered bread which said on the menu "while you wait" well the bread came out at the same time as the starters which was annoying.
I ordered the Superfood salad and it was bland and the chicken was over cooked. However, my husband enjoyed his main meal.
No green tea available for dessert so another disappointment.
This could be a real winning location if the service was better and if staff were more attentive.
I have eaten here 3 times recently. The food has been excellent and the service friendly and efficient. I particularly enjoyed their vegetable tart! The only complaint I have is the noise caused by the very loud grating of chair legs on the floor. I suggest felt pads or similar to reduce the noise.
Good for a Sunday family lunch
Our appetizers were all delicious, ranging from duck liver pate to fried Brie. Two of our party had the sea bass, and found it excellent. I had venison which was tasty but fairly tough. Another person had the pork belly, and said it was rather dry. The puddings were wonderful - one was dolce de leche, another apple crumble, and something else I can’t remember, but all outstanding. The service was very good.
We went with friends on a sunny Saturday and changed tables twice to get a good spot - all accommodated with pleasant smile and good humour.
The starters were large, so we could have shared one between two.
Southern fried chicken perfect crispness.
Good choice of wines .
Excellent service .
Very nice food, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality as previous reviews seemed to be mixed. Really enjoyed the scallops and the fish and chips were excellent. Quite a good wine list too. Livelier than other pubs in the area so good for a catch up with friends over a date night. Service was good, not overly attentive but friendly and easy to catch someone's eye if needed.
Valentine's Day menu was a fixed menu at a "set price" - except if you ordered certain items which then increased the price. The regular menu was not available at all. The quality of the food was OK but not outstanding, and the overall bill quite expensive. Having had great meals there before, we expected a little more from the Apple Tree on Valentine's Day.
I’ve usually had a good experience in here, however this, and my last 4 weeks ago have been below par. They still don’t appear to have fixed the hearing problem. The restaurant at 8pm was extremely cold. We had to ask for the fire to put on. Surely if you’re heating is broken this would have already been blazing.
Our food had to be sent back twice. Little seafood in the seafood linguine, and overbooked pasta. Twice.
This has gone downhill recently. A shame as I’ve enjoyed every experience up until the beginning of December
We had quick service to meet our scheduled departure time
The heating wasn’t working the restaurant was freezing we were moved to be near a radiator they could plug in but it didn’t work coffee came with dessert so by time it was drunk it was cold it was only when we left early we noticed in the bar there was an open fire that we could have had our coffee by and not even the offer of a complimentary coffee to warm us. I had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant many times when passing but disappointed no manager in evidence to take the flack or think on the job and waitresses were left to manage the situation they were however very polite.
Great, friendly service. Lovely decor and ambience and the food was fantastic. Definitely becoming a regular Sunday lunch place for us in the future!
I took my (elderly) parents for Sunday lunch and we all chose from the roasts menu. The food was pretty good but the portions very large for a couple well into their 80's.
Good staff and great cheesecake.
We visited midweek for a family birthday dinner. Lots of good choices on the menu. Food was very good, service was great. Hadn't been for a while and was much better than I remembered, and is back on my shortlist of local restaurants for family meals.
four of us went there for dinner. we enjoyed the food and the evening.
Service was awful worst I have ever known . Shame as the setting is lovely and food was ok . Could be a really nice place to go but so let down by staff .
Unfortunately we arrived at 1745 for our meal. The bartender was run off her feet as it was a lovely day so very busy outside. We ordered our meal just after 1800 when 2 waiters came on. They were fine however our diner took almost 45 minutes to come out of the kitchen. We asked to see the manager who never appeared! So-not a great experience I am afraid!
The service and the quality of food is always consistent at the Apple Tree. The waitress was very attentive to my special dietary requirements. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
We have dined here on number of occasions and whilst the food is always good we do notice that service is very slow even at quieter times of the day.
We went to the Apple Tree for a Valentine Day dinner. They had a special menu for the occasion. The food was reasonable overall although my lamb was tough; the service was friendly and efficient; and the atmosphere was open, modern and lively. What I liked was that they are really trying hard to provide great service; a little way to go before it is a real gastro pub but we had a lovely evening and as a venue they are heading in the right direction which is great to see. Thank you.
