We offer these traditional British favourites on a design your own menu to give these much loved British classics a modern twist (should you choose to) or just stick with the classic combinations that have been enjoyed for generations.
To compliment our food we have a wide range of real ales craft beers and over 20 gins to choose from.
Went here on Friday night. Busy but not overcrowded with table ready straight away. Great menu and wines. Ordered a scotch egg (really good) to start followed by haddock in beer batter, chips and onion rings. My friend ordered battered cod, chips and mushy peas. In both cases the fish tasted of absolutely nothing! Nicely cooked but batter was very pale and tasteless and the fish was so disappointing. The rest was great although the portion of peas was tiny. Friendly service and ok prices but wish I had ordered a pie!!!
This is a very casual bar restaurant, mostly frequented by students. The food is really nice, and the service is friendly. I would recommend it for a casual evening out.
Toilets are freezing!!
We don't live in Cambridge but pop in from time to time for gigs, cinema, culture, etc and being that we had a Cinema booking at the Arts PictureHouse, we wanted to eat beforehand. Usually we eat more locally to the cinema, but I'd read The Architect was great for fish &chips and pie & mash and it was very much worth the 15 minute walk out of town to enjoy the great food, excellent service (with fun banter if you want it) and good selection of beers and gins.
We'll be going again and I recommend it highly.
Always a good experience.
Food took slightly longer than expected, slightly over 1hr.
When it came was tasty, would have liked more sprouts as the side.
Very slow for food (more than 90 minutes to bring out mains) and very noisy.
What's not to like about gluten free fish n chips and an apple and rhubarb crumble!
A very energetic pub with a very good supply of food
We visited The Architect after a visit to Kettles Yard. On the up side, we finished KY early and our table was reserved which was great. Two staff on, seemingly super busy even though its not a big place. Confusion over who was serving drinks and who was changing a barrel meant we had to ask several times for our drinks. We waited over 45 minutes for our lunch (and yes we had ordered an oven baked haddock and a pie, both of which we completely understand takes longer) but it was all rather tasteless and dry. A V small pot of gravy came with the pie. I spoke to the waiter and he said we could have asked for more which seems fair. No loud music which is a plus. Lots of games around which made it family friendly. I'm sure it has lots of positives, just wasn't wowed.
The number of combinations of mains and sides here was fantastic - a lot of options for vegetarians and vegans, despite being pitched to me as a fish and chips place - and the service was excellent. Staff knew the best dishes (go for the jalepeno ketchup! Its incredible) and were friendly and attentive. My only complaint would be a lack of fresh vegetables. I think the only fresh veg on the menu was minted peas. I'm not kidding myself that a fully fried meal is going to be healthy, but it would be good to offset some of the crunchy, greasy loveliness with fresh peas, beans, carrots, broccoli... I'm still going to eat there again though!
Very tasty food, plenty of both veggie and non-veggie options. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Will definitely go again!
Delicious food. Build your own menu.
Quiet a noisy pub but adds to the vibe and you can still talk without shouting.
Excellent customer service and drinks brought to the table. Would visit again
A good place to meet friends...great to be able to mix and match, suits all tastes and appetites.
We had a great meal here at the weekend. The food was fantastic, large and very tasty portions. Everyone in the party was happy. Our dog was made very welcome too, and the staff were happy to give him strokes and also bring him water. Only issue we had was that service was a little slow, but the quality of the food more than made up for this.
The staff were fantastic. Friendly, helpful and charming.
The food unfortunately was just, alright. Nothing specifically wrong with it, just very forgettable.
Also the place also had one of my bete noire - sticky tables.
The food was soooo delicious and the pies were amazing! Anyone coming to Cambridge, definitely pop in!!!
As a chippy not amazing, average tasting batter on the fish and the chips were not amazing. Had to send the roasted root veg back as far too dried out. However, the steak and ale pie was tasty but the coconuty gravy was too watery and overall the place is too expensive for what you get. Try the Sea tree on Mill Road for a much better experience and value for money.
I was quite looking forward to going as it was in the top 10 places to eat in cambridge. There were lots of people there so was quite busy, it had a good atmosphere and there was lots of people eating. We all had the steak and ale pie, my self and our son had pie and chips and my husband had pie and mash. My husband finished his first and myself and our son was still eating as the pie was dry and you had to have gravy with it, the chips were over cooked and the peas were under cooked. If feel quite bad in being honest and writing this but i have to be truthful, i would maybe go again and try the fish next time
Very nice location close to kettles yard. Lovely attentive staff excellent food ( large portions ) and excellent vfm. Good choices of beer and wine
My friends and I had a fabulous time here. The food was amazing, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was brilliant.
Would definitely recommend.
Great atmosphere, lovely food and good service.
My only criticism would be too little custard for the dessert. However, this was easily rectified when I requested more custard.
The food at the Architect was excellent and we liked the way you could choose inclusive sauces / sides etc
Really nice casual atmosphere with good food. The menu is easy to understand menu and the staff are very friendly.
I've been here a few times before so I will mention that I've noticed that the standard of cleanliness is a little...hit and miss but honestly it wouldn't stop me from eating here again.
The pub specialises in Pies and Fish&Chips, all of the options we tried were tasty and satisfying to our preferences.
Treated very well, any changes or requests were attended to without issue or fuss.
Dog was treated to biscuit, milk and water as well.
Food was tasty - we tried most of the sauces - our favourites being the mustard grain, aioli and gravy.
They have a collection of self-made salts as well; the garlic and herb and curry salts being recommended.
There’s a well stocked Gin collection and Guest drinks as well.
Great experience at the Architect! I tried the vegetable, absolutely delicious. The service was reasonably fast, friendly waiter. I like the environment, simple, elegant. I will certainly go back!
Have visited The Architect a few times now and every visit has been enjoyable. The portions are good and the food is lovely with a variety of fish options to suit different tastes and palates and this has been backed up by a good service.
Have been to the Architect a number of times and just like those, this was great in terms of food and ambience. Love this place and its menu and will definitely be going back!
Really enjoyed this place - very relaxed, very casual, but with attentive staff and a quirky menu with food that delivered. The lamb and parsnip pie was a sensation!
Traditional pub food taken up a level and with good beer and excellent enthusiastic service
Really crispy batter for fish and chips and very generous portion. Friendly staff and overall a nice meal out
We had a member of our party with an unusual food allergy and our waitress was very helpful in finding something which was safe for them to eat. Very friendly and quick service and everyone had a lovely relaxed evening. The food is simple, but well done, and we liked the concept of being able to pick and mix.
I would only go back to have a drink.
The calamari was a great disappointment: tiny rings in vast quantities of batter. The chips tasted like oven chip reheated.
Really lovely, service was above and beyond. Great food and drink choices too.
Great variety of food options, friendly staff and really nice atmosphere. Had a great dinner there!
This was such a disappointing lunch. We waited an hour for our food, and kept being told it was coming in two minutes, and then waiting even longer. The atmosphere was pretty dead and the music was terrible and loud. Only the bartender seemed to be enjoying it.
This was my second visit to The Architect. Once again the service was efficient and friendly and the food was really good. This was a dinner with colleagues and they all really liked it too.
Really great food, atmosphere and service. Innovative menu good for fussy eaters AND those who like to experiment to create their own meal combo. Good value and will definitely go again.
Waiting staff very helpful and attentive. Fish and chips. Chips poor Batter on fish ok. Tartar sauce very nice
Excellent, especially our waiter. The reason the overall score is only Good is that we arrived early - about 12.20 - having booked, and ordered immediately as there were two small children in the party. We then waited for what seemed an unconscionably long time while others - who had arrived after us - were served the same food we had ordered. WHY??
Something evidently went wrong in the kitchen and this was a second visit - the first time we waited for nearly an hour. No good explanation for that either. Aren't the orders dealt with in the order they come in, as happens in most restaurants?
Our waiter saved the day by bringing the boys a sandwich and then giving them free pudding but really it was not his fault. Please get your kitchen orders better organised and then you will deserve a very good rating overall.
We have been to Architect on several occasions and enjoyed ourselves each time. We love the menu, with its fun fish and options with chips of different types and those delicious pies for meat eaters and vegetarians with their varied potato accompaniments. Each meal comes with a side and sauce which provide another range of options. So, what seems a simple choice (which it can be if you like) is a great and varied menu. The music was terrific, certainly suiting us, with chouce and mouse level. The service was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Great night for four friends who wanted to eat well and talk.
