Minted Garden Peas
Fast delivery to the table. Small portion of fish. Soft beer batter coating. Bland. Chips over cooked. More batter on thinly sliced onion rings. Tartare sauce had no flavour. Disappointing meal. Plate of brown.
We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at the Architect. Good and plentiful food, the roast beef was delicious. The do a great selection of vegetarian & vegan food too.
First trip meal out after lockdown. Staff were attentive. Great ambience for catching up with friends.
Very friendly servers and really good food at an amazing price.
Gourmet food at pub prices.
I would definitely revisit.
The best fish and chips place in Cambridge! I love the possibility I can personalized my fish and chips. The place is very nice as well
Good food, great atmosphere, service got a little slow towards the end of our meal but it was very busy.
Lively buzzing place with a great pub menu. Fish was perfectly battered and cooked. Quite busy and loud on a Friday night. Very friendly staff.
Unfortunately, upon arrival, the initial greeting was less than warm where the staff seemed begrudged to accommodate us, even though we had booked in advance. We were welcomed with a comment on face masks rather than a hello or a polite reminder.
Once seated, the service was quite slow, the pub was quite loud and the chicken and leek pie was dry. Not really great value for money and the pub doesn't quite have the same atmosphere and welcoming attitude as the website suggests.
We enjoyed the pudding though.
Delicious food good choice and options have been here before
Very pleasant evening - would have no hesitation in recommending
Food tasted good, fresh & well cooked. We went on a 25% off day so excellent value.
Staff were friendly and their Covid safety procedures were the best I have come across
Which gave me confidence to return.
P.S. The sticky toffee pudding is to dye for!
Well executed menu with great sides and lots of choice. Atmosphere was good all things considered.
The laid back atmosphere, the genuine welcome, the varied and relaxing background music, excellent menu with some interesting quirks on familiar dishes- we loved our visit to The Architect. Will definitely be back, it’s the perfect place for a chilled out lunch date.
Very tasty food, good selection of drinks with excellent service.
Food was ok. I’ve had roasts there before that we’re much better. The service is always lovely and generally the food is good.
Great experience as always
A bit noisy on arrival, with current restrictions it would be helpful to have a greeter as people arrive, some people had to hang around uncertain of what to do: I.e allowed in or not.
One waitress was spending a bit too much time chatting to one group (her friends?) to the slight neglect of checking on other customer needs.
Food excellent, drinks good but no Tankeray gin 😢😢
Overall, good exoerience
The best fish and chips in Cambridge, always friendly staff.
Tried their Vegan fish and chips which exceeded my expectations in a very positive way. Really good value for the money. Will be back.
Very nice atmosphere, lovely food and helpful staff
Booked online had never been before. Very nice place. Great gin menu which pleased my friend and I very much. Also very good prices as you would expect in a university town. We all had fish and chips cooked various ways. Desserts weren’t amazing and they only had whole milk so I had to have black coffee but would return if we visited Cambridge again. Very reasonable meal as they were also doing the Eat Out deal.
A little bit gimmicky. Can’t beet our local chippy, eating out of the box, looking out to sea.
We went to the Architect for our anniversary. We wanted somewhere we hadn’t been before & it didn’t disappoint. The food was fantastic - I loved the concept of choosing how you like your fish battered or buttered & choosing the accompaniments.
We loved the black pudding scotch egg & the deep fried Brie for starters.
We both had fish & it was cooked to perfection. We wanted the rice pudding donuts but they weren’t available so we shared a sticky toffee pudding which was delicious.
The staff were fantastic; they explained the menu and were just generally delightful. Next time we return we’ll have to try the pies!!
Went here on Friday night. Busy but not overcrowded with table ready straight away. Great menu and wines. Ordered a scotch egg (really good) to start followed by haddock in beer batter, chips and onion rings. My friend ordered battered cod, chips and mushy peas. In both cases the fish tasted of absolutely nothing! Nicely cooked but batter was very pale and tasteless and the fish was so disappointing. The rest was great although the portion of peas was tiny. Friendly service and ok prices but wish I had ordered a pie!!!
This is a very casual bar restaurant, mostly frequented by students. The food is really nice, and the service is friendly. I would recommend it for a casual evening out.
Toilets are freezing!!
We don't live in Cambridge but pop in from time to time for gigs, cinema, culture, etc and being that we had a Cinema booking at the Arts PictureHouse, we wanted to eat beforehand. Usually we eat more locally to the cinema, but I'd read The Architect was great for fish &chips and pie & mash and it was very much worth the 15 minute walk out of town to enjoy the great food, excellent service (with fun banter if you want it) and good selection of beers and gins.
We'll be going again and I recommend it highly.
Always a good experience.
Food took slightly longer than expected, slightly over 1hr.
When it came was tasty, would have liked more sprouts as the side.
Very slow for food (more than 90 minutes to bring out mains) and very noisy.
What's not to like about gluten free fish n chips and an apple and rhubarb crumble!
A very energetic pub with a very good supply of food
We visited The Architect after a visit to Kettles Yard. On the up side, we finished KY early and our table was reserved which was great. Two staff on, seemingly super busy even though its not a big place. Confusion over who was serving drinks and who was changing a barrel meant we had to ask several times for our drinks. We waited over 45 minutes for our lunch (and yes we had ordered an oven baked haddock and a pie, both of which we completely understand takes longer) but it was all rather tasteless and dry. A V small pot of gravy came with the pie. I spoke to the waiter and he said we could have asked for more which seems fair. No loud music which is a plus. Lots of games around which made it family friendly. I'm sure it has lots of positives, just wasn't wowed.
The number of combinations of mains and sides here was fantastic - a lot of options for vegetarians and vegans, despite being pitched to me as a fish and chips place - and the service was excellent. Staff knew the best dishes (go for the jalepeno ketchup! Its incredible) and were friendly and attentive. My only complaint would be a lack of fresh vegetables. I think the only fresh veg on the menu was minted peas. I'm not kidding myself that a fully fried meal is going to be healthy, but it would be good to offset some of the crunchy, greasy loveliness with fresh peas, beans, carrots, broccoli... I'm still going to eat there again though!
Very tasty food, plenty of both veggie and non-veggie options. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Will definitely go again!
Delicious food. Build your own menu.
Quiet a noisy pub but adds to the vibe and you can still talk without shouting.
Excellent customer service and drinks brought to the table. Would visit again
A good place to meet friends...great to be able to mix and match, suits all tastes and appetites.
We had a great meal here at the weekend. The food was fantastic, large and very tasty portions. Everyone in the party was happy. Our dog was made very welcome too, and the staff were happy to give him strokes and also bring him water. Only issue we had was that service was a little slow, but the quality of the food more than made up for this.
The staff were fantastic. Friendly, helpful and charming.
The food unfortunately was just, alright. Nothing specifically wrong with it, just very forgettable.
Also the place also had one of my bete noire - sticky tables.
The food was soooo delicious and the pies were amazing! Anyone coming to Cambridge, definitely pop in!!!
