The Bakers Arms
The food was a little dear for the macaroni cheese dish, it was a bit small,
The lamb was really expensive considering it had only 3 green beans for veg.
The chicken and leek pie was very good but considering it was only early in the evening you only had two left
One of our coffees were only half a cup and cold. And when we asked to change it. The waitress should of said yes straight away. Not it was done at the same time as the others it quite clearly wasn’t.
A very pleasant place to eat. The staff were really attentive and helpful. The starter to share was excellant and the pie was well received but 2 of us had the fish pie which was lacking in taste and did not have a lot of fish. We did not expect to find peas in an expensive fish pie. If only we had ordered the lamb!,
Heard the food was good and went for Sunday lunch with a friend.... will be back
We very much enjoyed our trip to The Bakers Arms. The food and service was really very good.
After much debate we settled on the Sharing Platter of cheese, pate etc. Excellent choice and made a very good and satisfying lunch.
As ever a wonderful warm friendly reception pub and meal
We have eaten here numerous times and have always been impressed by the service and most importantly the food. Sadly on this occasion our experience fell short of their usual standard.
The pub itself has a warm and cosy atmosphere, it is clean and the staff are friendly.
The vegetarian main course of chestnut tatin was ruined by the pickled mushrooms - far too acidic and any taste of mushroom replaced with pure vinegar. Either the spinach or the wild mushrooms were incredibly gritty - I had one very sandy mouthful which put me off finishing the plate. The meal itself didn’t seem like a complete meal : a small wedge of tart, some wilted spinach and some mushrooms and tomatoes around the edge. Compared to my partner’s pie, chips and veg it seemed ungenerous.
Sadly, the affogato was disappointing; the way it was served made it difficult to eat and the soggy wafer floating around in the sundae dish was really unappetising.
The service was adequate - by that I mean our food was brought to us. The server didn’t seem very experienced and didn’t engage with us beyond taking our order.
We were brought our bill but had to go to the bar ourselves to pay when the server didn’t return.
Overall, based on the strength of our past experiences we would possibly return for a Sunday lunch with the family but would think twice about returning for an evening meal as a couple.
The restaurant was busy, but there were plenty of staff who served our food at a good pace, so we didn't feel at all rushed. The food was excellent, good quality and plenty of it. In fact, we need to return (and not share a starter!) so that we can hopefully sample the desserts! The other really nice bit was the bill, which was surprisingly modest for the quality of the food and the experience.
This is the third time we've visited but it's definitely not as good as it used to be. Decor is still lovely, but the food is getting worse (first time we tried it last year it was amazing). The meat eaters in the group enjoyed the food' but the vegetarian food was disappointing. The roasted beetroot crumble was more like a slightly warm salad and quite watery and the sides dishes were overcooked. It was also incredibly quiet for a Saturday night, so maybe others are thinking the same?? Not sure if we'll give it another chance as we were disappointed last time as well.
We were visiting Droxford to celebrate a friends 50th Birthday. We had a superb meal. The staff were welcoming and friendly. A great ambience too.
Delicious food, great wine list, knowledgeable and efficient service. 10/10!
This is the second time we have been to the Bakers Arms, and we have had another fantastic evening. We were a party of 5 and the pub layout is really good, plenty of room around the tables, not crammed in. Outstanding quality beer and food, we all had filet steaks, possibly the best we have ever had. The ambience is really nice, old world pub. We would all thoroughly recommend, thanks for a great evening.
Always great food and service.
It never disappoints and I recommend it to all.
Best Roast dinner we have ever had out,we will definitely return in the near future.
Not particularly good table between toilets, staff did close back door! Food was good but generally over salted for our taste
A lovely meal in pleasant surroundings. Both my husband & I had the prawn starter which was delicious, my main course mussels were also good. My husband had the lamb rump which he thoroughly enjoyed & said it was very tender. Service was friendly, courteous & efficient. Thanks & well done Bakers for another great meal.
Superb roast dinner!!
Have patience with the waiting staff most are very young, this was my only very minor ‘issue’.
Will be back again!!!
Lovely traditional pub, great roast dinner in fact we were all so full we couldn’t manage dessert. I definitely recommend booking as it was very busy, as soon as a table emptied it filled again. Good atmosphere and although it was packed this didn’t effect the service.
We had a fantastic Sunday lunch , we will be back. I fully recommend a visit
This was our first visit and won’t be our last, lovely cosy warm atmosphere, staff were wonderful, friendly and attentive. We’re not vegan but like trying the vegan options, they said as well as the vegan options on the menu they’d adapt others options where possible which we thought was good of them. The black bean burger was lovely and tasty and came with a nice vegan mayonnaise, I asked for sweet potato fries with mine, would have been perfect if it can come with a small side salad or a few vegetables. My husband had the cauliflower steak which he said was very nice it came sat on a bed of tasty mixed veg, he also ordered a side of sweet potato fries which was good as the Cauliflower and veg wouldn’t have been filling enough on their own. We were pleasantly surprised to see to vegan options deserts, a light lemon cream which was very tasty and an apple and gooseberry crumble which was nice but a bit light on the crumble but then pubs never seem to do a proper thick homemade crumble, the custard wasn’t vegan. All in all a lovely experience, looking forward to a return visit with the family.
This is a restaurant, my husband I, use infrequently but we will be coming much more often. The food is always good and the ambience excellent. It is an excellent country pub. I have brought guests here and they have always enjoyed the experience. I would recommend this pub anyone that wants a good meal well served.
Visited The Bakers Arms for the first time with friends last Thursday evening, we had an extremely enjoyable meal, the food and service was excellent. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Already planning our next visit!
Regular Sunday lunch venue for us.....one of the best...
Fab food, pleasant staff. Abundant portions, beautifully cooked. Puddings gorgeous.
Lovely attentive staff ... our waitress was a delight
We visited the Bakers Arms on Sunday. Everything was amazing. Lovely old pub, friendly staff and delicious food! We both enjoyed the Sunday roast. Everything was home cooked, served hot and with plenty of gravy!
One of Hampshire's finest gastro-pubs, without question.
As ever awesome food and great service, proper Sunday lunch!!!
Always a excellent experience and delicious food. Well done guys
Went on a very quiet Monday night, the service was fantastic (thank you Amy!), the food excellent and the surroundings delightful. Would definitely visit again if I was in the area.
Very friendly service and a good ambiance. Inevitably, with such a popular pub in an old village the parking might sometimes be tricky.
A wonderful hearty Sunday roast in beautiful surroundings
Lovely place to have a meal. Good food and service
Loved the pub and mussels to die for. Locals friendly and dog friendly too ... perfect x
We were very disappointed with the food and the service. We chose this venue because of it’s referenced Michelin’s approval on its website. This must have been some time ago.
We both had fish as a main course which was served with greasy potatoes, inedible samphire and a side dish of green beans were uncooked.
The service was unprofessional. Our table was not cleared after both first and second courses.
We were asked our opinion of the meal and we were offered a free dessert.
The exterior of the building was very run down with an overflowing drain in the car park and a very tired and unkempt garden.
A most unsatisfactory evening.
As always a pleasant lunch at the Baker’s. Nice menu and good service makes this a regular on our dining list.
Wow, brilliant service! I was made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Unfortunately some of our party were delayed by over an hour, however the staff were so understanding. When we were finally all there we ordered our food and I loved that there was more than one vegetarian option. Our food arrived, very hot and absolutely gorgeous, so much better than the average pub Sunday lunch with gorgeous puddings too. We will definately be back. Thank you.
Great food, great service! Highly recommend.
As always food was fantastic , highly recommend the Hanger steak
I go to the Bakers Arms fairly regularly to meet a friend and have always had excellent meals. However on this occasion my Cauliflower Steak dish was not at all good. Lukewarm, bland, greasy and inedible samphire. We were not charged but disappointing as usually their food is so good. Heard a few other complaints from other diners, it was busy, so hopefully just having a bad day in the kitchen. We will return.
