The Barley Mow
We are delighted our customers love the warm welcoming ambience of the pub and enjoy the traditional and slightly quirky decor.
The Barley Mow’s Sunday lunch always offers a choice of three meats, fresh vegetables and goose fat roast potatoes. We also offer a homemade vegetarian option and can cater for gluten free and other requirements, just ask us. We strongly advise you book to avoid disappointment.
We went on a quiet Wednesday lunchtime and all had veg lasagne. Tasty and not too large for lunch (massive portions put all 3 of us off). Service was very friendly and we liked the cushions and faux sheepskins on benches to make seating more comfortable and cosy.
Lovely friendly waitress. We were meeting my son for lunch, booked the table for 12.30 but he got held up on the M23 and was about 3/4 hour late but she was really nice about it, although they were very busy she didn't rush us or make us feel bad for probably disrupting the timetable. Excellent food and service
Great food and friendly staff! Will definitely be returning soon!
We have not visited The Barley Mow for some years. We had a lovely meal and, although the restaurant was busy, the service was excellent.
We have driven past this pub a lot and always wanted to try it.
It had a good menu and the food was well cooked. All 4 of us agreed it was very good
The Barley Mow is one of our favourite locals. The food is excellent and atmosphere welcoming and cosy. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we would recommend it for a night out with friends.
Lovely food, nice surroundings, easy to park, big garden with play area for children
We booked this restaurant/pub for a lunch en route to another venue, and were not disappointed. We were welcomed by friendly staff and the food was great. We sat inside, which was very interesting and fairly quiet, but we later realised that this was because most of the customers were in the garden enjoying a bit of late summer sunshine. There is a large car park and children's play area. We would like to go back sometime, but it is quite a long way from where we live. Highly recommended.
Just a couple having lunch and a jolly good day. Thank you!
I'm not sure if I would recommend this pub to a friend. We were meeting friends for lunch and the Barley Mow is equidistant from our homes. The service and food were better the last time we ate there. This last time we visited it was Tuesday after BH Monday and it seemed the staff had not recovered from a very busy BH. The service was slightly chaotic and some things were not available on the menu. We won't be meeting our friends there again.
very good place for a Sunday lunch with our family of mixed ages 89-2! Lovely play area for the children and dog friendly too. Staff were very helpful and efficient. Will book again.
The staff were friendly and helpful, there was a good choice of foods and they tasted great
Food, staff and atmosphere excellent. We love going to the Barley Mow.
The meal was fabulous, as was the service. The play area is great, my daughter loved it! Lovely place. Xx
We used to love coming here, however Saturday will be our final visit. We went for the hog roast they have advertised, we were so looking forward to it but when arriving we were told it wasn’t on. No explanation given? Before we even sat down at our table we were being asked what we wanted to drink, little strange and very forceful, we hadn’t even had chance to look at the menu?! My mum and I each had a rose spritzer (wine drinks mega expensive and we felt rushed through the whole thing. Not great service.
We arrived on time for our booking, however, it was not clear if they were expecting us. After our meal we were contacted to ask why we had not honoured our booking!
Service was pleasant and the ambiance was good. We ate inside.
The food was perfectly acceptable, typical pub-fare. 3 of our party had fruit trifle for desert - absolutely delicious - so much so that 1 of our group asked for and received the recipe.
I ordered a roast Beef, the beef was very nice but as for the rest very very poor. The so called Yorkshire’s were soggy and awful and for me the rest was no better. My wife ordered the Lamb and she said that was very nice but like me the rest very unforgettable.
The dining room itself is very outdated and in need of a lick of paint, Sorry to say would not go back or recommend. Thank you
Lovely setting, food was not as good as normal. Normally very good was a shame
Very efficient and friendly staff. Lovely food (in our case only comment is chips were a bit pale)!
I have eaten at the barley mow for some time and have seen it go steadily downhill. The food is very average and the service rather slow. The place is still appealing and it is family friendly. The price is not cheap. If you want a child friendly pub and are not too fussy about the quality of the food and service then this could be the place for you. Personally I’ll be looking for somewhere else to take my teenage grandchildren.
We showed up early and were shown to our reserved table. The ladies who looked after us were brilliant. It was a meal for friends, but one had a birthday and when I asked if they could produce the birthday cake I had brought with me they did so without any questions. The young lady who served us was very knowledgeable about the gins they had and the recommendations were well appreciated. The food was lovely, the atmosphere excellent and the whole experience was relaxed and enjoyable. We all had a lovely evening and The Barley Mow would be perfect for all. There were couples, families and small groups all having a very pleasant Friday evening. Thank you.
Sat outside, food wasn’t very hot? Quite expensive for what it was
Birthday treat for me with family. Nice relaxed environment generous portion sizes good service. Free entertainment outside whilst eating was lovely. Just wish I'd known so we'd have booked later to enjoy the music for longer. Will visit here again thank you Carol
Excellent ‘pub grub’, good range of wines at reasonable price, good choice of draft beer. I don’t remember seeing a note on the menu that a “Voluntary 10% service charge would be added”, so I was a bit of a surprise when there was the addition.
Beautiful food, well presented and fantastic atmosphere! Loved the garden for the kids and the staff are very polite and helpful. All in all a wonderful experience and I would definitely go again! *5 Thank you!
Excellent food, great staff and brilliant playground for the kids
I enjoyed a delicious and relaxing lunch with my parents. The food was so nice and the staff very friendly and attentive. I would definitely visit the Barley Mow again, hopefully very soon.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We will be back again soon
We all had roasts. Was a choice of 4 meats and a veggie roast.
There was a choice of a 2 or 3 meat roast. Partner had 3 meat roast but wasn’t able to state which meats he wanted. Beef arrived as one of the choices which was way too rare for him so he left that. I had veggie roast but was a bit confused as would assume it was all vegetarian but waitress said it would only be vegetarian if I wanted it vegetarian. I said I was veggie but when it arrived she put plate down saying it was non vegetarian! So wasn’t entirely sure it was which put me off!
Roast potatoes not roasted enough for us!
Lovely food - service was fairly slow as it was very busy, but very friendly
We had a really lovely meal - hang onto that chef! Also very friendly staff. Only criticism would be pictures in men's toilets (maybe a bit pornographic for families) - also the picture in the ladies toilet of a lady saying she left it too late to have children! I have no children and too late for me so it hit a raw nerve. Everything else excellent
Only thing I didn’t like was the service charge already added on. Should be up to the customer to sort out. I’d recommend the place to everyone as can’t fault it, but It’s put me off going again as personally I don’t appreciate it stuck on the bill.
A very friendly welcome, service and food excellent. Looking forward to our next visit.
Very nice tasty food
Lovely food...... All as ordered and we made changes to what was on the menu. Helpful and friendly staff. Only let down was shell in the egg on the ham egg and chips.
Overall good food and an amazing garden for kids! The only downside the lasagna was a small portion and very dry
I’d definitely recommend the Barley Mow, and we will be coming back soon. We came on Mother’s Day so it was understandably packed and noisy. We’ve been here in the past and it has been more relaxed. The staff were brilliant and very helpful, and the food was delicious. See you again soon!
We have eaten at the Barley Mow a number of times and always enjoyed the experience but this time we felt slightly let down by our visit. We arrived at 1.00 pm for a Thursday lunch and when I asked if one particular favourite dish from the menu shown on the website was available I was told that the item was no longer offered. The menu is advertised as being the pub's Seasonal Winter Menu so that implies that the dishes are standard fare. We were then advised that the Calf's Liver and Duck were not available along with one of the specials. The pub was not that busy and it was only mid-week, not a weekend. After expressing our disappointment at the missing dishes the chef did managed to find two Duck dishes which two of my guests did enjoy. The food was good and we did enjoy our meal but we left feeling slightly let down.
A busy Sunday so service was pretty slow, but was very tasty when it arrived. Waiting staff were a bit blasée, and under-schooled in what was available, and there were other systemic shortcomings that indicated a management team that were not fully on top of things, for example, the menus we were each given had different prices, and the Italian root vegetable pappardelle with halloumi did not contain root vegetables at all, unless you count onions. It was however a delicious dish of courgettes, aubergines and peppers on a well-reduced tomato sauce packed full of flavoursome herbs. I would recommend the fish and chips - excellent light beer batter and not too heavy for a lunch.
A lovely pub - great kids facilities/garden. Nicely decorated interior. The day we went, was a really sunny day with lots of customers outside, which I think put pressure on the staff who were okay, but we had to look for someone each time we wanted something. We had a Sunday lunch which was good but a little pricey at £14.95.... The menu built it up as something really special, but it arrived and it was a little ordinary.
