Fabulous toast as always the only place I’ve seen actually wiping down their menus.
Always efficient and friendly we’ll be back soon
Enjoyed a nice lunch with my husband. Excellent service and great food lovely setting
Lovely lunch, ploughman’s was fantastic! Outside seating and garden area is the place to be in this weather, so many great food options on the menu, staff very friendly
The pub seems to be run by children.
They don’t sell pale ales, they couldnt swap a fried egg for a poached egg (which made me think things weren’t being cooked fresh, just pre/cooked and placed on hot plates)
They didn’t have any coffee.
The meats on the roasts were dry and over cooked, potato’s weren’t great and hardly any vegetables were on the plate.
The steak on the salad was very well done and rubbery even though we asked for it to be medium rare. The salad was just very wet, like it had been sitting waiting in the fridge.
Nice garden thou, we would only return for a drink.
All was good apart staff not wearing masks, very disappointment
Excellent stopping off point on busy road. Booked table 45 min in advance excellent food and service in garden. Great experience.
Not worth the inconvenience of location took ages to get out of the car park
We booked for a family get together, mid way between our dwellings. Quite happy with our surroundings but waited ages to be served. Slightly disappointed with the menu, scampi came with a "green leaf salad" so we asked for peas instead. Generous portions of scampi, fries, a very tiny pot of tartare sauce and poorly presented. At this time of year, a mixed salad should have been easy. Food was ok but could have been better. The men had "chicken burgers" a bit on the dry side. The desserts were really the crowning glory, especially the sticky toffee pudding! Perhaps it was a bad day but they needed more staff and a bit more "customer care" We paid the added 10% service charge as they did their best. Worth a visit even if you just have pudding!
Love this pub! Great play zone for the kids. Lovely views and great food. Perfect sunny day place
Lovely food and lovely pub (really cosy, real country pub feel) although when you book online it says your table is only for 1 hour and a half, this is not really enough time to be able to have a relaxed meal?
Menu is quite short which is not a really bad thing but would have been nice to have a few more options to choose from, quite a lot of it was "lunchy" things.
We got our meal which was absolutely lovely, beautifully cooked chips!!
The only downside to the meal was that I felt that we a bit rushed at the end, to get our pudding, eat it and go, however I hadn't been to the Barley Mow before so wasn't aware that the closing time was so early, expected it to be a lot later on a Saturday. So if I'd have known that I'd have booked our table for quite a bit earlier and just hoped that they'd let us have the table for a bit longer than 1.5 hours.
Overall very good, I'd go here again and I'd tell others to give it a try. Looking forward to bringing the children when the sun decides to shine so they can try out the big play area.
Thanks guys, well done.
Everything was good except food. Good wasn't very delicious with that price. But its nice for drink and if you have kids nice for family out.
The Roast was really lovely except the Yorkshire pudding was over done.
The sweets however were exceptional and so lovely to have a choice of gluten free.
We were given a table in the bar, we thought when we reserved the table it would have been in the restaurant, it wouldn’t have been too bad if we hadn’t been put at a table right next to a large wet smelly dog that kept getting up which made the smell worse
We ate indoors, all the small children were outside with their families, so the noise level and ambience were great for us.
The food and service both very good, waiters were around when we wanted them but not intrusive.
We'll definitely be going again.
Limited Sunday menu unless you want a roast dinner..we had a dark and dismal table...service very good maybe a little over enthusiastic...trying to take our drinks oder before we had barely sat down..husband had the barley mow burger that was very dry..I Had the scampi that was excellent..the gardens are lovely and if it had been better weather would have preferred to sit outside
Food was amazing and so were the staff! It was lovely to be back!
Good choice of food on the menu, came out quickly and was very tasty. Friendly servers, sometimes a bit quick to take plates away etc felt abit rushed at times. Overall good experience!
Good food , service not as good as it has been n the past
We visited on Fathers Day so it was understandably very busy.
The service was friendly but slow but like I say it was busy.
The food was great so was well worth the wait.
We sat in the garden which is beautiful with the Downs as the backdrop but if you don’t have children you might want to be seated somewhere quieter - it was perfect for us as the play facilities are great for kids.
Overall we would definitely visit again.
We went for father's day on Sunday, we booked a table but service was very slow we had to call staff over, only certain ones were taking food orders, they had to go back and fourth a few times to change things as they had run out which was abit disappointing as the menu was limited anyway for father's day. Ordered the roast chicken which was lovely although not very hot but did not want to send back as I was starving! Cheesecake was very good. Felt very sorry for the staff as they are obviously still trying to get back into things after lockdown, they said for some reason last minute they had decided to move all tables around outside which made their job even harder and lots of people were turning up without booking expecting to be squeezed in, people were complaining about having to wait, food being forgotten or cold or run out etc but the staff were always busy and worked very hard. We still had a lovely time as the location is beautiful and our children love to play in the playground area.
An average meal. We had roast, and all the veg and meat tasted like it was reheated. Expensive for quality.
Very bad night overall menu not what advertised staff not telling you run out and putting something on that my wife, did not like batter round fish i am glad i had my own teeth all you could here is the crunching .
Been to this pub a lot in the last 5 years, and this the worst meal and service we have had. Will not be back for a while
We came for a visit yesterday and was very disappointed! We was first inside and others were getting food before ours. We had been waiting an hour with our hungry one year old getting upset so we asked how long our food would be bearing in mind we had ordered chips and cheesy garlic bread.. to then be told they forgot to put our order through and would take another 20-30 minutes. At this point we decided to just leave. Over all the whole experience of the barley mow was awful.
Good service, accommodating for kids and great atmosphere. The food however was hugely overpriced for what you receive, £15 for a standard pub meal you would expect more fresh and impressive meals.
Fabulous staff, service, food and price. Will definitely book again.
Everyone was so friendly and lovely. We took our dog and one of the staff wanted to take a picture of her to enter her into their “mutt of the month” competition. On top of this, the food was absolutely delicious and such good value for money! We sat out in the glorious sunshine in the beautiful garden. Can’t wait to go back.
The garden there is pretty nice, great for kids, the staff were really good too, both friendly, nice and attentive however the food was really overpriced for what it was, also a selection of generic lagers with nothing interesting
My partner and I have called in here a few times over the last two years. It’s a lovely finish to a day on the coast en-route home.
Each time the servers are lovely and attentive
Our visit yesterday was the BEST so far.
Billy greeted and seated us and was just a star ⭐️⭐️ he was the most lovely and attentive but not intrusive ... it’s a fine mix to achieve
My fruit cider was thoughtfully and beautifully garnished with strawberries.
The home made salmon quiche was out of this world with amazing flavour, texture and totally FRESH!
Omg did I mention the baked cheesecake? Again fresh, tasty and wonderful flavour combination. Enough to share between two ... if you have the room have it to yourself!!
I look forward to my next beach trip and popping in there on the way home.
We went for dinner and the menu was more relevant for a lunchtime menu. Very few main courses that seemed appropriate. Starters were very good though. Ideal venue for parents with small children.
We were able to enjoy a meal as a family without having to worry about bored children as there is a play area.
Really helpful and friendly staff, highly recommended
Very disappointed. Several points rated well below the information on the website.
Lasagne was Luke warm with top layer of pasta hard and sauce congealed.
Half empty plates sat on the table far too long.
10% service charge automatically added. But optional. Don’t agree with that way of conducting business.
Won’t be there again.
Lovely meal in the garden. Had taken 90 year old Mum for lunch. Great food and service and lovely friendly staff.
Only one niggle - we parked close to the main road expecting to go in through the building which was a struggle for Mum to walk, only to be told the entrance was through the garden. We did see the sign once we had walked past the entrance but a sign as you enter the car park could be a good idea.
Great adjustments to COVID and really friendly helpful staff… the service was really good and we would definitely eat here again.
First time at the Barley Mow with my family. Lovely atmosphere, food was brilliant, staff fantastic. My children loved the play area. Will definitely be back.
Enjoyed eating in the garden on a Saturday lunchtime. We were in a quiet section but it was also good for families. Would have liked more vegetables it the dishes were interesting and beautifully cooked. The dessert portion seemed rather small.
We came yesterday for a family meal and it was wonderful! The children loved the play area. Everyone was really helpful and friendly and all covid secure !
The food was brilliant. Even the kids meals were high quality and plenty!
Would thoroughly recommend the Barley Mow.
Wasn’t very happy with the service -Asked for a jug of water when arriving at 12pm, didn't receive this until 1:45pm after asking 3 more times. We had our menus taken off us after eating the main and wasn’t asked if we wanted any dessert, had to go up and ask for someone to come and take our order for dessert.
