The building dates back to the 18th century when Sproughton was a small hamlet, most of the few inhabitants making their living from the land. Although for most of its long history the building was divided into a number of farm cottages, rumour has it that may have actually started life as an inn.
Have eaten at the Beagle before only very occassionally has it been a miss
probably a mistake to go along on monthering sunday.. the place was exceptionally busy and although we had a booking, they had not allocated us a table. Service was a bit slow.. but the waitress was trying really hard. I think the kitchen was running out of some items on the menu.. my wife joked that they had to crack out the xmas things from the deep freeze as instead of leek & potato soup we had spicy carrot, and instead of turkey w/ bacon we ended up with pigs in blankets.. all in all it was nice, and my mother had a nice lunch. but way too busy and understaffed.
Lovely evening meal, really cosy, nice with real fires and comfortable chairs. Food is good, not fine dining but acceptable. Service is really friendly and helpful.
Disappointed we have had far better Sunday lunches at beagle before today wasn’t temping us to go back although I am being taken there Friday 14 let’s hope it’s better waiter very pushy regarding larger drinks which we did give in not needed food not hot enough to last warm to the end busy pub liked the way it was set out we were for three which really should of been a two table please don’t slip back you’ve built up a good reputation but not this busy disappointed let hope better on the 14
We booked here as we were staying at premier inn for the night. We ordered three starters which we had to ask for after 45 minutes. Two were absolutely fine but the prawn and lobster cocktail was very small and didn’t look very appetising. We had also ordered four main courses but three of us had to make a second choice as both the cod loin and risotto weren’t available. We then had to ask for these after an hour. When finallly they arrived we had to send back the beef Wellington as it was very tough and chewy, the manager apologised and offered to replace it with with a different choice of meal. Our waiter was very apologetic but it was obvious there was a lack of staff on this particular evening. We often go to our local vintage pubs and are always very happy with our meals and service but on this particular evening felt The Beagle was very disappointing.
Food was good but could do with more waiting staff
I have used the Beagle several times now and the standard is always reliably high. The staff are efficient and friendly and the building itself is lovely to be in. There is a good choice of food at reasonable prices. The only moan is that in common with most pubs and restaurants, soft drinks are priced at an obscene level, which is a shame when most people have to drive to get there.
Always a very good evening for a meal. Service is excellent although sometimes a bit of a wait, but we'll worth waiting for! Not many places accommodate vegans but the Beagle does it very well alongside a very good general menu and lovely staff.
Food was great . Nice an warm atmosphere with a real fire. The Americans coffee was week ask for an extra shot if you want to taste the coffee
A great place for a friends catch up! Good food, good value
A family pre-Christmas get-together for 5 people. We had booked an early table and were the first ones in but the Beagle quickly filled. Never seen so many people out for a Saturday lunch, so must be a popular place. Everyone was pleasant and welcoming and the service attentive. Food was better than anticipated and well delivered and tasty.
Absolutely excellent service, one starter was off the menu but they rehashed another to suit with no fuss. Waitress was perfect, just the right amount of attention.
The occasion was our Ruby Wedding anniversary and the staff went above and beyond expectations in service. The meal was delicious and we all (six of us) had a wonderful lunch. We were not hurried and the bill was good value for money. Well done and thank you! Carol & Rob Harbour
The restaurant is large, many rooms. It is clean and attractive.
We were seared at a table away from others, but still heard the table in the room behind us.
Waitress was friendly, but didn't understand what we asked for. Meat was pre cooked, so it could not be done to our specifications. It was obvious that the fish filet wasn't fresh.
We did have excellent wine at a good price.
I had the sea bass which was absolutely amazing ! The waitress was very lovely but forgot my water I asked for! But I so loved the food so it wasn't a problem but they should try and remember what customers request 😊
Great Sunday lunch !
Top class Sunday Roast
I took my girlfriend for a valtines meal we was in there for 2 and half hours for 2 courses and drinks , are waitress Sally was very good / the rest of the team , we wasn't rushed for anything , very nice setting / decor
I would recommend this to anyone I have been there before
The food is very good
In the past sometimes there's a bit of a wait at times but I feel it's worth it and value for money
The Beagle is a beautiful pub, loved the wooden beams and the open fires.
Food was nice and good value for a 3 course meal deal.
Where we sat, the telephone kept ringing and that was annoying.
Overall we would go again.
We met up with friends for Sunday Lunch. The service was friendly and efficient. The food arrived promptly and was presented very well and tasted very good.
I would recommend The Beagle for various occasions and the menu is extensive.
Beagle was great in terms of service but they do not accept bookings from Open Table so beware
