Really nice, friendly staff, food was amazing and delicious 🤤
We sat outside as the weather was lovely and cannot fault the food we received or the service. It is a great place and we will definitely be back
My husband and I dined last night. Having previously seen a menu was a bit disappointed to be given a reduced menu which was mainly meat. My husband had the T-bone steak he said it was really nice. I ordered the fish is the day which was a whole Sea Bream, it was beautiful. The service by the lovely Nicole was impeccable, very friendly and professional. The downside was the lemon tart dessert, the portion was too small and not very nice not worth £6. We will definitely return.
Waitress struggled to take drinks order then got it wrong. Food very salty, 1 free drink as compensation
Excellent early evening trip for a few drinks. No food on this occasion.
Lovely atmosphere. Service excellent. Staff very friendly with great humour.
Great attention to detail with the regulations.
The renovation of the establishment are fantastic. Character has been left but certainly has made a great difference.
We will be back. Thanks
Sunday lunch there was slot of Of food piled on quite a small plate would have been better with separate vegetables was a little over facing.. disappointed with veg option
Great place we will definitely be going back
Another great night at the bear - a treat to get their evening menu this time. Service is efficient and friendly and the food was great
Great food and brilliant service. Well done to the team on this treat. 👍
Enjoyable as ever
Attitude of staff was appalling, staff bringing food didn’t know what food they were serving and tables far to close together for social distancing. Will not be returning.
Having visited Knaresborough many times the previous Carriages was always our favourite port of call so we were very much looking forward to visiting The Bear at Carriages.
We were not disappointed in any way, the service was great, the Covid organisation was excellent but best of all the food was incredible. We had steak and chips which quite honestly was the best we’ve ever eaten out.
You will not go wrong going here!! Service, food, ambiance, price etc etc., all spot on. Looking forward to going again. Keep it up folks!
Awesome meal! Loved this place before. Love it even more now.
We were looking forward to a lovely meal out after lock down. The menu sounded good.
Sadly, we were to be disappointed with the food.
We ordered Lamb steak and a Beef Steak. The waiter didn't ask how we would like them cooked. We thought this was a oversite and that he would return asking us our preferences. Not so. We received rare cooked steaks. I have never had a lamb steak rare. It was too rare and I couldn't eat it. The waitress offered to take it back to the kitchen but I declined the offer as I had been put off the steak by now.
The original waiter said they are told by the Chef not to ask customers what their preference is re steak being rare, medium or well cooked due to if he cooked it any longer the meat would be tough!!!
We didn't order dessert.
Needless to say, my steak of which I couldn't eat, was deducted from the bill.
My husband didn't enjoy his steak cooked rare either.
I cannot understand how a Chef can dictate how a customer should have their steak. It should be the one who's paying for the steak that decides how it's cooked.
We will not be visiting there again.
Great venue for Knaresborough, I will certainly come back, loved the whole experience. Slightly pricey so not somewhere I could go every week, maybe a few meal/ drink deals could be offered from time to time especially for locals/regulars?
The food was delicious, the staff attentive and very friendly.
Service was a bit disorganised on arrival, with the bar manager split between welcoming guests and serving drinks, which made the early part of the visit, slow.
The menu is a little limited, and could do with a few more options.
Once we ordered, the food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious.
Early teething problems will no doubt be overcome in time. We’ll definitely be regular visitors.
Bear @ Carriages is new and that showed a little. The staff were very friendly and welcoming but should have mentioned that one of the lunch main courses was not available - we both wanted to order it! So we had to revise our choices quickly and my friend ordered the chicken Kiev and a side order of chips. The waitress should have told her that the Kiev comes with chips. Having said that the chips were absolutely delicious, as was all the food. And we ate every morsel - the food was great. It was quiet as it was a Wednesday lunchtime, but we had an excellent meal and I will definitely eat there again.
An excellent Sunday dinner. Great service in a friendly, casual restaurant. One minor negative was the size of the plates; not the amount of food, but the actual plates the food was served on. A strange choice of crockery!
This really is a minor complaint through as overall we had a very good meal in a very pleasant atmosphere. We'll definitely go again.
We had an absolutely fantastic meal, the beef was incredible with the most delicious smoky taste to it. And the sticky toffee pudding ended the meal nicely! We’ll be back for sure!
Fabulous Sunday Lunch, great atmosphere and super friendly service. First visit since the reopening and we will be back😀
Our anniversary. Perfect meal and ambience. Great service by staff.
Will certainly be coming along again very soon.
Thanks to all the management and staff for a great evening.
Was impressed with the food and service. Very friendly. Unfortunately we were sat by the door and got a cold blast every time it opened. Overall it was excellent and would go again but sit somewhere different
Had our first meal in The Bear at Carriages and we were delighted with everything on offer. The staff were delightful, friendly, funny and attentive and efficient! Tasty and beautiful food . I can recommend the
Frangellico affogato desert- it's a taste sensation 😁
We went for my husbands birthday. Service was excellent as some of our party were very particular. Food and wine lovely. Husband very pleased with the ribs.
I g hg ave been xx a Carriages customer since it opened so was apprehensive. It did not disappoint
We have been for drinks many times and really enjoyed it, a lovely place and so booked for food. We arrived 5 minutes early and were seen to our table, unfortunately after half an hour of waiting we still hadnt had our drinks order taken and so left, would definitely return for drinks, but wouldn't book again for food.
Busy evening and a problem with the online ordering system that meant drinks were taking a very long time (food came first)
However they were very apologetic and the drinks were FOC.
Will give them a second chance and hope it’s teething issues
Just went in for a drink
Staff very friendly and obliging
Will definitely go back
The flat iron steak was extremely good as was the primavito red Italian wine. She didn’t share her sticky toffee pudding: that says it all.
Fab food & service! 👍
Would recommend a visit, also the best beer garden in Knaresborough.
Not the cheapest but very good value because of the quality and quantity. Good choice of beers and lagers. The brisket was very tender and tasty.
Great addition to Knaresborough. Food great. Nice little menu. Good beer garden partially under cover. Inexperienced staff so you have to have patience as it would be great if the team can succeed.
Food took a while to come And was overcooked. we were seated with nobody else in the restaurant, orders took for to be made and even drinks service was slow. Very pricey for what we had and nobody asked how we would like the steak part of the meal cooked and it was overcooked.
Visited bank holiday monday but nothing stated when booking that only a limited menu was available. Although my food was fine and I had a couple of things I was interested in my wife only had one thing and that wasn't particularly good.
Overall good, very friendly staff and understood our point.
Will go again and ensure the full menu is available
Beautiful food with great ambiance. Would highly recommend this restaurant. We will go again.
Sorry I’d hope to be more complimentary and I expect things will improve this being only the second weekend. Carriages was one of our regular places and I want to think the Bear will be too.
We were seated and given the wrong menus. Only to then be asked to move due to a mistake as a large party had booked the table. In fact that was not the case - the party turned up an hour later but did not use the table.
My food was lovely - had the chicken. My three guests had the beef and unfortunately it was overly tough and difficult to cut/eat. I’d also say for what we received it was over priced by 30%. We then waited 20 mins on the table to be cleared and asked about puddings. Instead requested another round of drinks - despite several attempts after another 15 mins gave up and asked for the bill.
Food was cold and the veg wasn't cooked - hard. The glasses of wine only come as one size, despite the waitress offering us small, medium and large.
Got told we couldn't go outside despite there being seven empty tables.
Great new restaurant - desperately needed in Knaresborough. Well done team!
Nice atmosphere, food and service excellent. Meal and drinks very good value. Will definitely be back.
Went for our anniversary, and had wonderful time. Food was outstanding. Staff couldn't do enough to help. Will definitely be back.
