The Betterment by Jason Atherton is a contemporary dining experience located within The Biltmore Hotel, Mayfair. Luxurious yet relaxed with modern interiors and a menu suitable for sharing, The Betterment is the ideal place to socialise with friends, family and colleagues. The seasonally driven menu features beautifully presented dishes of wood-fired fish and meats, fresh seafood, signature salads and plant-based plates. Proteins are cooked on an open grill, with side dishes forming the flair of the meal, all inspired by flavours from around the world. In addition to the main restaurant, there is a beautiful Tea Lounge which challenges the perception of a traditional London afternoon tea and offers a unique experience to all guests. The comfortable Terrace is an elegant spot open for al fresco dining and drinking all year round.

Lovely service by Viola and the team at Betterment. It was surprisingly quiet and they were lovely to let us walk around (with a toddler) and explore the Aquarium room, Chairman's room and showed us the workings of the kitchen.

Set menu was beautiful, including a glass of 2012 Moet champagne. Food was great and they were able to adapt the menu for a pregnant lady.

All seemed fine with pleasant starters and friendly service but when the “shared” main came, a £75 flame-cooked turbot, it was about the size of a single piece of M&S dusted plaice. The portion was so small it almost felt ironic given the steep price. The rest was fine.

Staff friendly but not sufficiently attentive. Food indifferent. Not value for money!

Lovely venue in the Biltmore Hotel. Food was excellent, staff were too. I had the halibut with a dashi broth and it was wonderful.

We prepaid for the Christmas dinner. It’s a beautiful place to dine, however the service wasn’t up to scratch on this occasion. It felt like there was a lot of miscommunication going on between service staff and kitchen. The timing of dishes being placed was odd, we had to chase our bread which is usually served first. Once mains were over, I think they forgot we were in the restaurant (and there were only a handful of people in the restaurant). We had to chase our dessert, eggnog and mince pies. We asked for the bill, and they kindly removed the service fee.

From the terrible service to the inedible food I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was so slow, the pickled vegetables on the smoked salmon starter was so sour, I choked and had to spit it out. The dish was so salty I needed a lot of water to wash it down.

The plates were dirty (please see attached). I have been to JAs sister restaurant and had a good time but this was beyond horrible. The main fillet was okay but it had so much on the plate. It was a mountain of food. Not what I was expecting for a fine dining restaurant. I thought it was quality over quantity.

Such a shame. I expected better from a JA restaurant.

Although the restaurant has been nicely remodeled from its previous incarnation at the Britannia, the holiday dinner set menu proved to be a disgrace. The first course of salmon was skimpy. There was no soup course. The turkey was processed and not freshly carved turkey. The stuffing was poor. The cranberry sauce was skimpy, as were any accompanying vegetables. The dessert pudding was small and mediocre, as was the cheese course. The music was intrusive and loud. This proved to be an expansive fiasco.
