Delicious food , wonderful service, but very premium price. We paid $150 for a salad, two servings of fish, and a glass of bourbon.

This was not what we expected at all. We ate in the bistro and the room has little to no ambiance. The menu is sparse, but we knew that going in. I had a salad to start and it did not have any dressing on it. Literally none. My husband had the snails and they were not cooked well. We both had steak and they did not ask us how we would like it cooked. The steaks were fine, but nothing special. The frites with the steak frites were big, thick pub fries, which is atypical for frites. We had high expectations about Goodstone Bistro and sadly were left disappointed.

We ate at The Bistro at Goodstone tonight, and the food left much to be desired. We ordered the Ny Strip Steak and Fritz ($30/plate). My husband’s steak was ordered “medium”, and mine was ordered “medium well”. Our steaks came out burnt. To a crisp. I was disappointed that the server thought they were ok to serve, and even more disappointed that the kitchen staff would send them out that way. They never should have left the kitchen. After we finished eating, the table right next to ours had the same problem with their steaks. The man at that table actually said, “I can’t eat this” and sent his back.
In addition to the burnt steaks, I asked for mushrooms on mine. While I assume the crispy brown things on my steak were mushrooms, there were only about 5 small pieces and they, too, were burn and unrecognizable.
The French onion soup, however, was yummy.
Our bill included one French onion soup, two steak entrees, and nothing else. The bill was $76 before tip. I could have gone to Outback Steakhouse and had the same steak, cooked correctly, for under $20. Basically the wilted roses that were on the table behind us sum up our experience.

The food was fantastic. Ingredients were locally sourced if not grown at their farm. You could taste the difference. Service was excellent. The only thing I'd ask is for more wine varieties.

Our experience at the Bistro on Sunday afternoon was blessing for my wife and myself. And, we viewed the experience so well that we have called in today in order to obtain (2) $100 gift certificates to pass along to our friends when appropriate. They get what the forget about me I love you experience is all about.

The Bistro offers the perfect combination of warm ambiance, great food, and flawless execution in an environment that invites you to just drop in and grab a burger - or the escargot. The wine list will blow your socks off without blowing your casual dining budget. This is a still somewhat undiscovered Middleburg gem because locals don't realize the Goodstone has a neighborhood dining option. So next time you can't squeeze your way into the Oyster Bar, come here instead.

Wonderful weekend experience. We stayed at the Inn and ate dinner at the Bistro. Everything was fabulous, including cocktails by the fireplace with an excellent pianist. I hate to even comment on this, but the only reason I didn’t give a 5-star for ambience was that the circulation to their other restaurant was through the middle of the Bistro dining, so a bit distracting. Will still go back!

The eggs Benedict with Smoked salmon carried the skimpiest portion of smoked salmon I have ever seen in any restaurant where this dish is offered. There was barely enough salmon on top of the English muffin to lightly cover half of the area of the English muffin. Very poor presentation and prep.

Yesterday for brunch I went to the new French restaurant in Gordonsville, Rochambeau. I ordered the same dish which was 1/2 the price of the dish at Goodstone. There was a portion of five or 6 ounces of smoked salmon on the English muffin making it a true delight.

Why is goodStone being so chintzy about the smoked salmon? Grow up. Put on your big boy pants. Give the customer 5 to 6 ounces of smoked salmon for this classic dish like all your competitors

This is the principal reason I did not rate this restaurant as highly as others may have done.

Food was very good bistro fare. Wine list was extensive with many high end wines suitable for dinner. At our lunch, we wanted lighter red to go with four different lunch choices. Ordered Beaujolais cru, two of which were on wine list. Out of stock. Wine person brought a Famille Perrin CotesDu Rhône instead. With guests so didn’t complain. But a heavy commodity wine available at supermarkets should not have been an alternative to our Beaujolais Cru choice

The Hostess looked at us like we were from Mars when I said we had a reservation, our guest of honor was kept waiting in the lounge for over 10 minutes when the staff neglected to ask her if she was with another guest/party, service was slow and there was water in my plate for the main course and the lunch platter was so big that the small torte was so far from the icecream it melted enroute. Whats up Goodstone?

My husband and I consider ourselves true "foodies" so we were looking forward to trying the Bistro at Goodstone Inn. From the moment we sat down, the service was excellent and we liked the look of the simple, classic French menu. However, when we surveyed the wine list, both for bottles and glasses of red wine, we were dismayed at the exorbitant prices. A typical Cotes du Rhone which we can buy at our local grocer for $9.99 was an astronomical $60.00! Actually, of all the reds, that was the most inexpensive one on the entire menu. What a shame. The food was pleasant but nothing we couldn't make as well or better at home. The frites that accompanied the steak were neither thin nor crispy enough. They also served them with ketchup which we found strange since mayonnaise would have been more typical in a French bistro. The rockfish was fine, although a little fussy with its tiny garnishes and sauces. A dessert of profiteroles with hazelnut ice cream sounded wonderful when described by the waiter. In actuality, the puffs themselves were filled with the barest amount of cream. Nice ambiance, loved the piano and the roaring fire, but honestly, I can't recommend the Bistro.

We reserved a table for brunch after reading glowing reviews. Ambience was lovely: woody, live piano music, bright. The service was great- very attentive. Mixed drinks were delicious (Old Fashioned). Food was mediocre (maybe they do not use their best chef for brunch?): bland below average eggs benedict, & a tasty but overcooked hamburger. Similarly, dessert was sub par- profiteroles (small & little cream filling, & a just a little"Belgian" chocolate sauce that tasted like Hershey's syrup. Meh. Maybe we came at a bad time.

We have been dining (and staying) at Goodstone for over 25 years, so we have seen many changes. The best decision they made was to add the Conservatory to the Carriage House. The worst decision was to open it ONLY for dinner. We dreaded going to brunch yesterday because on our last visit (hosting out of town cousins in July) the piano had drowned out our conversations. Happily, they moved the piano to the adjacent room with better acoustics. We do not find "The Bistro" as charming as the Canservatory but it was good to see fresh flowers on the tables. Choosing pink mini carnations & purple statice gave it a baby shower look. They should consider Alstroemeria (just as inexpensive & long lasting but more elegant with a wide choice of colors). We were pleased to see Caity, Stuart & Brandon as well as meeting the chef. The service & hospitality are the Goodstone's strengths. The Kir Royale was nice & later I had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc with my entree. Mixed feelings about the food, however. Serving what reminded us of supermarket bread cut into triangles with cold butter was not only ridiculous but kept popping up. Our French onion soup had it inside the bowl with some melted cheese (Gruyere?) as well as on the side to dip. We prefer the classic presentation with gooey, warm cheese inside the bowl & melting over the edge. Entrees were much better. The Goodstone burger was impressive (too bad it was overcooked to medium when Barry ordered medium rare), served with some greens & Belgian fries (meaning that they were not crispy which we prefer). My Icelandic Cod was awesome! Served in a potato mousseline (not a beurre blanc) with baby turnips, kale and asparagus pieces. I think the addition of lemon would have elevated the dish. The chef comped 2 chocolate desserts in addition to the profiteroles we'd ordered. We enjoyed all that sugar with our cappuccinos (after asking for Splenda). I do hope that they re-think the use of their Conservatory.

The Goodstone never disappoints. It is one of our favorite but this was our first time visiting at lunchtime and the food was noticeable subpar. Service and atmosphere as always were impeccable but we were quite surprised at the quality of our meals. The food is always impeccable, this visit the tenderloin was salty and cold. The potatoes under the fish were bland and watery...quite disappointing but we will keep coming back for the delightful staff and the gorgeous property!

We made a last minute reservation for our anniversary. When we arrived the host said they weren't seating anyone; they did seat us after we told them we had a reservation (brunch stopped being served at 2:00 and our reservation was for 1:45). I think they had to re-open the kitchen for us. The food was good (it took almost 45 minutes) but we did feel like we had put everyone out (like we made everyone stay late after class) which made us feel a bit uncomfortable. The piano player in the dining room was excellent and the ambiance was nice, so it ended up being a nice celebration. We would go back but I would suggest they don't allow for late reservations if they can't accommodate diners.

A very nice quiet Sunday Brunch at Goodstone. Only a couple of other tables occupied on our visit. House made Bloody Mary's were excellent with Basil & Celery infused Vodka and an excellent homemade mix. Downside is that there is pretty limited menu for the Bistro Brunch, but what we had was very good.
