Great food as always, helpful attentive staff, relaxed atmosphere.
Room was ok, but the bed was a bit small, no chairs or table in room, no shower gel in bathroom, room was a bit dusty, but on the whole good.
Love eating at the Black Lion. The food is outstanding and so is the service. Staff are always attentive but very discreet. The menu has something for everyone and a very good wine list.
Great food. fab cocktail and a relaxed Sunday afternoon. Perfect.
We always enjoy visiting the Black Lion. But I thought that this time, the menu was not as extensive as usual. Maybe a perception. My partner had the baked cod which was delicious. I had a rump steak which was ok but nothing special. And the fries - dry as anything. Don't think they ever saw a deep fryer. Reported that and the chef reportedly just shrugged. Got a free dessert.
Main thing - The Black Lion is still on our list of go-to resatuarants.
The food was incredible, genuinely one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The bar, restaurant and garden area are lovely. The only slight criticism is we'd have preferred a break between starters and mains. Main courses arrived well within 5 minutes of us finishing our starters, whereas I'd have preferred a break between courses.
Lovely surroundings. Pleasant and efficient service. Great location. Recommend wholeheartedly.
Excellent service and food
Delicious food as always, great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming hosts.
Our table was pleasantly situated in the dining room overlooking Melford Green giving it a relaxed feeling. The staff were very welcoming and attentive, without being too intrusive. We both had roast chicken which was very well cooked , served with lots of fresh vegetables together making a delicious main course. It was quite a generous portion, but we still made room for desert. We will be making a return visit.
Our 6th stay here ! As always a wonderful stay! Staff can’t do enough to make your stay very special and food is absolutely delicious ! Will be back very soon ! Thank you ! 😃
We are regular patrons of the Black Lion. The food has improved since our last visit; they have apparently just done a re-launch and, whilst the food was always worth the visit, it is now really very good and represents excellent value for trendy but tasty fare.
Utterly delicious, a chocolate mouse to die for and helpful and knowledgeable staff. There were lots of gluten free choices and gluten free bread. Wonderful choice for allergies without apologies
Deliciously simple fresh and super tasty. Jolly service not too intrusive, equally efficient. First time in since Chestnut Group re furb.
We will be back.
Excellent menu and all our choices were delicious. Good friendly service. Overall a really lovely experience.
A brilliant night celebrating our sons 40th Birthday. The food service and ambience was spot on. Thank you to all the staff for a very enjoyable evening.
Overall it was very good but would like more choice for light lunches, not sandwiches which we can all make at home!
Went for Sunday lunch and we were so impressed with the quality of food and the service, also extremely good value.
Perfect start to finish!
Top notch pub food and excellent service, couldn’t fault it, highly recommended!
A great night at the Black Lion! Not only was the food lovely but the service was some of the best- me and my 3 oldest friends had dinner booked for 7.45pm but wanted to sit outside for a drink before going to the table so the staff were happy to push our table back by 30mins. We were never made to feel rushed- even when we were to busy catching up to even look at the menu! One of my friends is a coeliac, so was really pleased to see lots of gluten free options on the menu and my other friend is pregnant and she was happy with her non-alcoholic gin! And her questions about the food was met with ease.
Thanks again for a great night, it was the perfect setting for us to have a long overdue catch up!
Definitely will be back!
Good food, well cooked, well presented. Decent wine list, pleasant surroundings. What's not to like
Really enjoyed ourselves and we will return
The service by the staff was very good, the food was average and the place was ok
Excellent food, attentive staff and lovely building. Will definitely be returning.
This was our first visit to the Black Lion since it changed ownership. We booked a table easily online, deciding Sunday lunch was a safe bet! Service was excellent throughout and the menu had an interesting range of choices.
All three courses were outstanding in terms of presentation, portion size (just right) and taste (delicious!). Special mention for the pear dessert, which was unexpectedly amazing. We will be back!
We enjoyed another fantastic evening here. The food and wine was fantastic and all at a good price. Our waiter was excellent and his recommendations were great. I only wish I could remember his name as his happy demeanour was infectious. Would thoroughly recommend and we will be returning.
We cannot fault this restaurant, it is outstanding in every way. The service is impeccable, the food is fresh, well cooked and well presented. The restaurant ambience is just right, with tables spread apart nicely. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
Very good overall, slightly disappointed that is a different menu on a Sunday evening to normal a la carte but should have checked this myself prior.
Very nice hotel, great location and excellent food and service.....highly recommended!
I have to say that we thought this was the best restaurant meal we have had for some time.
It is currently the best in Long Melford, and probably within a five mile radius.
Also great value for money.
Our experience here brightened up a miserable wet day. We were warmly greeted and taken to our table straight away in a cosy dining room. We ordered Sunday lunch: the roast pork was beautiful, but I would have preferred the beef ‘medium’ rather than ‘rare’. However, it still tasted delicious, even though there was too much fat on it for my liking! Yorkshire puddings and vegetables that accompanied the meat were delicious. Desserts were fantastic. We all agreed Sticky Toffee Pudding was superb and my son enjoyed the cheese board. Service was excellent and we all agreed it would be worth visiting again.
Fabulous Mother's Day lunch. Great food and wonderful service.
Warm friendly good food great service lovely location would recommend
We were at The Black Lion for Saturday lunch. The food was very good and all 4 of us enjoyed it. Everybody was very friendly and the Service was good enough although not quite as good as on previous occasions, one member of staff wasn't dressed particularly smartly which was a pity. We have been to The Black Lion several times and would recommend it.
Had a great time. Stayed in the grand luxury suite for my bday. Room was lovely and food was great. The staff were all warm and welcoming. Highly recomnd eating and staying here.
Staff so helpful and friendly. Food good. Nice touch with the Happy Anniversary iced plate and brownie - thank you!
Perfect atmosphere for a lunch with friends. Lovely food; beautifully presented. Male staff very friendly and our lunch experience was only let down by a miserable waitress.
Wow what a great place. Great setting, absolutely delicious supper, I had the roast cauliflower and steak.... just perfect. Welcoming staff, lovely atmosphere in the dining room. Will definitely go again.
Fantastic meal at the Black Lion. Very helpful staff and excellent food.
Sadly the Sunday lunch food was very underwhelming. The service ranged from excellent at times to awful. The dining room we were in needed a little TLC with torn wallpaper in places and the front step was damaged and an accident waiting to happen
Only one choice for vegetarians and come on Chef, mushroom risotto? Surely you can be more imaginative than that.
We opted for the 2 course menu and I must say the fish and chips was excellent, sadly the roast beef wasn't. Cold Yorkshire pudding, succulent beef but pretty tasteless, whole baby carrots with the black stem still in place, roast potatoes that tasted as if they had been kept warm for a long time and bland watery gravy.
We both opted for the bread and butter pudding for desert, one of our favourites. Maybe our taste, but no crispy buttery top, just a small slab of stodgy, but quite tasty pudding. I wonder if the custard was on top to hide the fact that it lacked the crispy top and it appeared just reheated? When I say reheated it was just warm, again this may be a personal taste but a hot desert should be hot.
Sadly although a fan of the Chestnut brand I'm afraid we won't be rushing back here for a Sunday lunch here.
