Blackbird was closed although we got a confirmation email that our table was reserved and waiting for us. You would not have it on the booking system while it's closed.
We booked a family lunch on 23rd December - confirmation emails received - turned up and doors locked! Hugely disappointing and no apology received...
Reading the menu, I was looking forward to the food, but the execution was awful. The chicken wings had hardly any meat and were burnt to the point they were chewy. There was hardly any sauce. The fries were the cheap type which are basically just hollow with not much potato. The burgers were ok, but the Buffalo burger never had all the ingredients on it. So many better places doing similar food, so unlikely to recommend.
Have been here a number of times for lunch. Really good all round
Great food, great value, will be recommending to mates for sure
Fascinating place.Outside &inside attractive decor.Delightful staff.
Can't recall the music.Very handy for buses cinema,theatre,charity shops.Toilets worth a visit.Would try again but not a burger.Like that it's dog friendly.
I love the Blackbird. The staff are the loveliest and give you just the right amount of attention. The garden is beautiful. Food great, beer great. Everything you want, really!
On a previous visit had good food, this time it was pretty awful and wouldn't go back again. Very limited menu - all very much unhealthy fried food. I had a chicken caesar salad and the chicken was tough, fried and inedible.
My partner and I cane in for drinks only on a Saturday afternoon. The welcome was lovely and warm and the staff were great throughout! :) Really lovely, high quality cocktails and beers on offer and we were served very quickly. The inside of the bar is gorgeous and had a relaxed atmosphere. We were sad we didn’t have more time there but will definitely be back soon!
Good food, service a little slow but would def go again
Lovely afternoon. Yummy food x
Chicken burger and chips were only luke warm which was disappointing.
Good food & service provided by friendly staff following the guidelines by wearing masks etc. Ended up in their beer garden as it was such a beautiful day. Would definitely visit again next time visiting our daughter in Edinburgh
The bar was OK, brought down by the service - guy behind the bar was just weirdly rude!
Very helpful great service even while obeying social distancing measurws
Overall we had a lovely evening but I was s bit disappointed that we were being asked to vacate our table after an hour and a half. As it was we were leaving to see a show but had we wanted a second course we wouldn't have had time. There was no offer of the menu back for dessert and it had not been mentioned at time of booking or as we sat we would only have it for that time.I would expect to have a table for a minimum of two hours.
Nice place friendly staff. Food was not great and dining area quite noisy. As a pre theatre eatery it was ok. Would go back for drink as it has atmosphere
Our table was in a very dark alcove. Chicken was very dry.
This was a lovely setting and close to the King's Theatre, which was perfect for our needs the day we went. The service was outstanding - really customer focussed and considerate. The food was good, though we felt that some of the dishes lacked a little flavour or the right balance of flavour for us. For example the chicken and potato dish - the potatoes were very tasty, but the chicken itself was a little bland. I would go back for the location, service and ambiance. And if the balance of flavour in the dishes was looked at, then I would be scoring it 5+.
The service here is good- however the food isnt! Rather pricey for what you get and not that tasty!
Cocktails excellent - went down very easily. Range of food very good - something for everyone, in my opinion. Not too quiet, but not too noisy. Grown up - no kids. Very enjoyable.
Not particularly child friendly. A bit dark. On the occasion we were there they were very short staffed and service was very slow.
I would recommend to book and if like myself it was for a meal before a show at Kings Theatre, give yourself plenty of time to get foor and eat it as from ordering food to receiving it was about 45 minutes. They weren’t overly busy and only opened at time of our booking. We weren’t too bothered as had given ourselves 2 hours for a leisurely lunch but others coming in after us were getting concerned.
I would also note that not the best for young children as there’s not much choice for food for them unless they are adventurous eaters!
Lovely atmosphere and food though!
Second visit. A lot busier as prepantomime, so all tables booked up. Thoroughly enjoyed the GlutenFree choices. Ginger beer chicken was delicious followed by orange cheese cake mousse. Friendly and welcoming staff. Will definitely be back guys. Thank you.
Although the food was ok, the service was good and friendly but the background music and general acoustics prevented relaxed conversations in my opinion.
Food and service was excellent, was very noisy but I guess thats the time of year. It was not very warm in the restaurant.
We had an enjoyable pre-theatre dinner here. Service was excellent and food was hot.
Would recommend because usually lovely. However, our visit on Saturday was disappointing. I had the duck. Nothing on menu clearly indicated it was a sort of broth. My friend had the ginger beer chicken advertised on menu as served with spiced potatoes. Was served on a bed of chips! Apparently they had run out of spiced potatoes. Waitress told us that this should have been pointed out when we ordered. Service was very slow - we waited 45 minutes for order to arrive - and we would have complained when served but we were running out of time because we had a show to go to so no time to delay further. Disappointing experience.
Would have been perfect if we hadn't had to wait just a bit too long for our food to come.. but will definitely be back.. great wee place and food was lovely.
Breakfast was reasonable value with espresso coffee included in the £11 charge. I would have liked a better quality sausage and nicer bread to match the other ingredients but the rest was good.
We had a seat near the back door which was a bit cool due to the weather that day. Also the plant behind our table was a nuisance as it hung directly into the seating area.
Lovely staff, lovely food. was very loud but that was because the rugby was on but the staff gave us a table away at the back so we weren't disturbed too much.
Really nice pub! Great atmosphere, tasty food and amazing service. Highly recommended!
Great food and lovely friendly staff. Would highly recommend and will defo be back next time we’re in Edinburgh.
Really lovely evening - casual but very tasty food - attentive staff and relaxed atmosphere - perfect as the snow fell outside!
Hi great place for a drink and catch up with friends. The food was just average and a wee bit on the expensive side for what you got. Def go back for drinks but not to eat. Bar staff were very friendly and happy.
Great service, good food, relaxed atmosphere. Great bar for all ages.
Disappointing experience overall on Hogmanay afternoon. Prebooked table but still took more than 1 hour 30 minutes for one course to be served, and not advised until this point that table would need to be vacated for restaurant to be set up for Hogmanay guests. Very little service throughout. Won’t be returning.
Lovely fresh tasting food which was nicely presented and good flavour combos
We visit before attending shows at the playhouse and always receive outstanding service. The staff are friendly and there’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I recently took my mum who is 88 before attending the pantomime and we loved it. The food is great but please bring back the crab cakes on the menu!
