The Blackbird Bar and Restaurant, at 37-39 Leven Street in the Bruntsfield area of south-west Edinburgh, serves modern Scottish cuisine. It is located close to The Meadows public park, less than 10 minutes by car or taxi from Waverley and Haymarket Railway Stations; Edinburgh Castle and the city centre are around 20 minutes' walk away. The exposed stone walls of its traditional, tavern-like interior give it an authentically Scottish atmosphere and it also has a beer garden in which to enjoy an al fresco drink or bite to eat in the warmer summer months. The Blackbird’s menu is composed of gourmet burgers, fresh fish of the day, hearty soups and sumptuous salads, to be accompanied by something from the drinks menu – a glass of craft beer, premium ale or fine wine, perhaps – organic teas and coffees are also available.

Lovely city centre bar, beautiful outdoor space, with good pub if slightly limited menu. Portions are huge though so you may want to choose and share.

Everything was great but I was surprised that the menu consisted only of sandwiches. There was a lot of bread - thick slices and very cold- but the fillings were good. But I wish there had been other dishes available

It’s not a twinkly and as ambient as I remember? What’s happened? They were definitely doing that before anyone else. One of its main features as I remember but it seems to have been torn away now. The service was superb as were the food and portion sizes. The staff even guessed our names correctly as we walked in! Very impressive.

Superb staff who keep you in the loop of when your booking is ready and when it is coming to an end. No request is too much for these folk! The drinks are a tad on the expensive side, but the range of choice is super. Worthwhile arranging tables far in advance (we did 7 days ahead) and ordered and paid for starter food to share before hand. This meant our order was already part of the kitchens list and was served promptly . Give this team the heads up and they will do wonders

The enormous focaccia sandwiches were absolutely delicious - quality over variety. The ambiance is casual and welcoming, on the noisy-bar side of dining but not bad. Not too expensive either.
