Would recommend because usually lovely. However, our visit on Saturday was disappointing. I had the duck. Nothing on menu clearly indicated it was a sort of broth. My friend had the ginger beer chicken advertised on menu as served with spiced potatoes. Was served on a bed of chips! Apparently they had run out of spiced potatoes. Waitress told us that this should have been pointed out when we ordered. Service was very slow - we waited 45 minutes for order to arrive - and we would have complained when served but we were running out of time because we had a show to go to so no time to delay further. Disappointing experience.
Would have been perfect if we hadn't had to wait just a bit too long for our food to come.. but will definitely be back.. great wee place and food was lovely.
Breakfast was reasonable value with espresso coffee included in the £11 charge. I would have liked a better quality sausage and nicer bread to match the other ingredients but the rest was good.
We had a seat near the back door which was a bit cool due to the weather that day. Also the plant behind our table was a nuisance as it hung directly into the seating area.
Lovely staff, lovely food. was very loud but that was because the rugby was on but the staff gave us a table away at the back so we weren't disturbed too much.
Really nice pub! Great atmosphere, tasty food and amazing service. Highly recommended!
Great food and lovely friendly staff. Would highly recommend and will defo be back next time we’re in Edinburgh.
Really lovely evening - casual but very tasty food - attentive staff and relaxed atmosphere - perfect as the snow fell outside!
Hi great place for a drink and catch up with friends. The food was just average and a wee bit on the expensive side for what you got. Def go back for drinks but not to eat. Bar staff were very friendly and happy.
Great service, good food, relaxed atmosphere. Great bar for all ages.
Disappointing experience overall on Hogmanay afternoon. Prebooked table but still took more than 1 hour 30 minutes for one course to be served, and not advised until this point that table would need to be vacated for restaurant to be set up for Hogmanay guests. Very little service throughout. Won’t be returning.
Lovely fresh tasting food which was nicely presented and good flavour combos
We visit before attending shows at the playhouse and always receive outstanding service. The staff are friendly and there’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I recently took my mum who is 88 before attending the pantomime and we loved it. The food is great but please bring back the crab cakes on the menu!
We went for breakfast here and the food was great. The actual place itself is a lovely atmosphere and the staff are super friendly. Will definitely be coming back!
Took an hour for the food to be served and the only excuse was that there was a party of 6 that had come in prior to us. Sorry but if you can’t handle that then don’t have food on your menus. Food was good but were then rushed to eat it as we had a show to go and see. Oh and it was freezing cold.
Wedged into a window seat metal stool at a high table with a bunch of lads drinking behind us. My face was practically in my food asxthe stool was too low and couldn’t hear my partner for the noise.
We waited almost an hour for our food which was nice when it came. Waitress was lovely but we had to ask for drinks and then chase the bill to catch our show.
We arrived a bit earlier than booked. Table was ready and seated immediately. Wait staff extremely friendly, nothing too much bother. Would return if in the area for theatre etc.
My daughter had the beef rib, croquette and polenta mash and said it was absolutely delicious. I had sea bass which had been cooked just to my liking and the linguine was extremely tasty. However, since the fish should have been the main item on the plate, I felt that one small fillet of fish, cut in two, was a bit stingy. This made my dish pasta with fish instead of the other way round.
Limited vegan options and some plates really basic/small. But fun and friendly atmosphere.
Just perfect - great service, & served quickly. Glad I booked it as it was busy. So flexible when we realised we’d be 15mins later than expected. Highly recommend.
Too noisy, very average food with little apparent effort in the preparation.
Amazing food and fabulous cocktails. Perfect for a Saturday night. Staff were lovely also
Service very slow, drinks took a while to arrive, food didn't arrive together so one person ahd to wait for theirs. Not very impressed tbh
Food was average but seating uncomfortable tables too high for the stools and people just drinking allowed to sit at proper tables whilst those eating had to squeeze on to tiny high up tables.
The food and drink was very good, service quick until it got really busy and it slowed up a bit. Its a little cramped, tables very close together
Friendly service but a long wait for food (45mins for savoury waffles!). It was festival time so they were busy, but for pre-theatre food (our table was 630) it’s the service should be faster. Waffles were ok but overcooked. Tips go to the staff.
Food fine but nothing special. Friendly waitresses, but unfortunately very slow, which is frustrating when you've got something else to go to afterwards. Handy for the Kings Theatre.
Great food, friendly service, lively atmosphere. Highly recommended.
I would definitely return here for brunch. Very enjoyable and well cooked. A delight. It was quiet early on a Sunday morning so perfect
We visited before going to the kings theatre and had an early dinner. The place has a good atmosphere. There is plenty choice on the menu and it’s all reasonably priced. Staff friendly and attentive
Plain awe full service. We made a reservation through open table and stood at the door for 10 minutes with no one noticing us. Finally we sat down but saw no servers. I went to the busy bar where one bartender was mixing up 12 ingredients cocktails one by one. Finally we got the managers attention and he personally served us. The food was actually pretty good but until they work out the wait staff I would avoid it.
