Would definitely recommend. Old Salford pub given a modern makeover. There was a relaxed atmosphere and all the staff were friendly. The outside space is very pleasant with heaters. The food was good bit pricey for a roast dinner but you are paying for the whole experience. Will be going again and take friends. As we left a live singer was on which added to the great vibe.
Great place serving wonderful food will be going again.
Highly recommend breakfast here! Good and service fantastic!
My second visit, my partner’s first. Service was top notch, and the food was beautiful. If I had to single a dish out, the green tea jelly with chai sorbet and berries was spectacular. Thank you again and we’ll be back.
Although we had Booked, when we arrived we were told we hadn’t which wasn’t a great start.
The staff, ambience and Decor were excellent.
We were put in the conservatory which we felt cold.
We felt the menu was limited and we chose steak and lamb Both of which were fatty.
The mackerel starter was excellent.
It was disappointing to find we had to pay extra for vegetables.
It’s unlikely will go to the restaurant again but would try the bar meals and hope for better value.
Overall I enjoyed the experience and would return and recommend to friends and family. It just had a few snags which are a continuous banging service door that needed a soft close. And slightly dimmed lights on the wine display.
Very nice food and venue, highly recommend it, cheers
Who would have know this “old pub” was such a little gem. Well worth a visit
Amazing food and lovely staff! Beautiful venue and a great day out
First time here. Great refurb and addition to the pub, nice to see an open kitchen.
Good drinks and food menu.
Overall it was ok, but the food didn’t quite live up to the billing I’m afraid.
Some was over seasoned, some under, and some arrived different to how it was described.
Maybe it will get better as time goes on.
Ate lunch/bar menu at 3pm on Saturday with my husband and 17 year old daughter. Everything was perfect.
Daughter loved the chicken Bao buns and king prawns. We shared the jelly desert which was so refreshing and both agreed that it was up at the top of all deserts. You would have to go the somewhere like Northcotes to get food as tasty, stimulating and high quality.
Really lovely food, great attentive servers, great drinks selection!
Had a cocktail in the pub first which had a very cosy atmosphere. There was a great choice of cocktails too. The restaurant and garden were modern and tastefully decorated. The food was fab and creative but overpriced compared to other restaurants off a similar standard, especially as you had to pay extra for chips and veg etc The staff were lovely very polite and friendly which added to the great experience
Sunday roast is one of the best I have ever had.
Hi lovely place & food my only gripe was the door was open next to where we was sat in the conservatory so it taken us a while to warm up once we had closed it, really enjoyed the food & the place though & looking forward to going back hopefully in the other part. 🤞
Really great as always. My only one critique would be that our meal arrived before our drinks, which meant we waited to receive our drinks before we started eating. Despite this delay everything was good
Absolutely lovely building, staff so nice and helpful and food delicious - highly recommend.
Sunday lunch was nice but are small portions for the price ..
We had a lovely Sunday afternoon here, great friendly and efficient service, the menu was varied, and the food was delicious - couple of small niggly things I had the roast which was warm and not hot - although the tasty cauli cheese was baking and the music was loud so had to raise voices to make ourselves heard. None the less will happily go back
The staff were so friendly and attentive. Interior was attractive. Food was great but the steak was a bit fatty.
Really lovely staff in beautiful building but food didn't match to these positive points or the price. The veg option was poor and only having 1 alcohol free option of 0% Heineken is pretty poor these days...
Bianca was the ultimate host and was only matched by the quality of the food and the aesthetics of the surroundings. Brilliant evening, stunning food.
Second time at The Blackfriar and again it didn’t disappoint - all the food was fabulous and our Greek waitress was great
Second visit in one week !!
Enjoyed our first visit so much we decided to try Sunday service . Delicious 😋
We had chicken roast dinner and pie with roast potatoes . All really good and portion sizes perfect !!
Unfortunately we didn’t get chance to eat … there was Sunday Roast left and as the usual menu isn’t available on a Sunday the menu was limited so we left
Absolutely gorgeous food and excellent service. Would definitely recommend.
Boy does this place live up to the hype. The service was fantastic, the food was insanely good, the chairs were comfy, and the environment is so aesthetically pleasing. They even had live music inside. I’m always trying to find a place with nice live music while you eat in Manchester! This is the best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long time.
Amazing place with great food & service! The atmosphere is great and I can’t wait to visit again! Sunday roast was spot on!
I would absolutely recommend The Blackfriar, always delicious food and excellent service. Sometimes the music can be slightly loud, but this does not distract from the exceptional meal.
Great food, we had the roast and the bar menu. Food came out on time and every meal was great. staff were excellent, warm friendly and very professional.
We were pleasantly surprised by the redesigned interior of the pub, which is plit between a pub area, a restaurant area and a terrace. The food was great and the staff very friendly. Dinner menu is slightly on the expensive side but we arrived before 6 and had the pub classics which were good value for money.
Loved it, my mums old stomping ground and wanted to see it whilst it’s had a refurb ☺️
From the moment l saw the exterior of this beautiful Gastropub I knew we were in for a fabulous experience. The decor has been so well thought out and the garden area is stunning. We had fabulous service and ample menu choices. The bread is out of this world, and my chicken mushroom and truffle pie was delicious. I know we’ll be back. Thank you all at The Blackfriar.
Decor is fabulous , the refurb has been done really well and the addition of the modern annex is great.
Staff are all very warm and friendly , also happy to explain the menu etc.
As it was a Monday we weren’t up for the full menu , so chose from the bar menu - food really good and well presented , our only negative is that it would have been nice to choose items from the grazing menu but that finished at 6pm ( we were in at 6:30pm ) , so choice of starters to match with the bar menu was pretty limited .
Cocktails are very good , again really well presented and interesting twist on the classics ( can recommend the salford dock ) .
Overall we loved it at the Blackfriar and would like to return soon for the Sunday roast !!
we went as a party of 4 and we had amazing time, staff were fabulous & the food was outstanding 2 of the party were smokers and smoking is allowed outside in the garden... so they were happy ....we will definitely be going back we had a really good time :-)
The Black Friar is a gorgeous pub that has clearly been done up to a high standard. They had live music on whilst we were dining which was a pleasant surprise and the restaurant was relatively full.
The only slight issue I have is that our food was put before us and the waiter ran off before we could ask him any questions or ask for anything else. We were also not asked once how our food was whilst we were dining and we had to call a member of staff over to our table.
The menu clearly advertised that the vegetarian roast would include a beau vale blue cheese mousse which it did not, and there was no vegetarian gravy or any sauce at all for the mashed potatoes or Yorkshire pudding. I was instead offered a blue cheese mayonnaise as the staff seemed to have no idea what the mousse advertised on the menu actually was.
Overall, it was a lovely experience and the pub looks sublime. I can only assume the staff are still coming to grips with the menu as most of them will be new.
Lovely experience for an anniversary!
The service was superb particularly from Cydney and Louise, recommending some excellent wine and cocktails. Food was delicious, best Sunday roast around at the moment. Nice ambiance and the option to move from the formal restaurant area to the more relaxed pub snug area for post food cocktails finished off an all round enjoyable experience. We will be visiting again soon :)
We had a fantastic evening at The Black Friar. Service was great, holly our waitress made our evening she was brilliant.
Food was excellent, the only negative I would say is that the portions were very small. I ordered The lamb cutlets which were delicious but for £28 I would expect more than two small pieces, although it meant I had room for desert which was just as delicious.
Overall very good experience!
Great food and great service
Lovely decor and ambience
Amazing team, dog friendly and made us feel very welcome. Good was amazing! Do feel that the place is quite large with the outside and maybe could do with more
