The Blue Anchor
With the pub close to Ashdown Forest and set within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it’s the perfect place for walkers to find respite and refreshment - and it’s a dining destination in its own right too, thanks to our homemade food.
The food was quite good although a little expensive. Service wasn't very good although some staff were good and others not so good. They didn't seem to have any system of who was doing what. There were some large group tables which were quite noisy and the other tables were positioned really close to them. We had to ask to be moved as did another group of 4.
Had a nice meal with friends - service was good- staff very welcoming - food was good but the selection could have perhaps been a bit wider
Perfectly acceptable though one beer was off, but this due to an earlier wedding party.
Fantastic food, service was very slow considering we were the only occupied table on a Tuesday lunchtime. Friendly staff, good value for money.
We had a lovely relaxed meal for our daughter's 18th thanks
We went on a Saturday lunch time, 6 adults 2 children (3 and 6).
Food was good, though menu was limited, I think due to them having an 'End of Sumer' BBQ party that afternoon. This meant my wife was disappointed with the choice available to her as a fairly fussy eater. She did find something off of the BBQ menu though which she enjoyed whilst everyone else ate from the main menu. Strongly recommend the Sausage and Mash and Mushroom Risotto was also enjoyed a lot.
Only main gripe other than the open door and chilly temperature was that the Childrens Menu was SOOO expensive. £7.95 for a burger (which looked like they'd simply cut an adults burger and bun a bit smaller given the rough edges) and chips. No drink or dessert included which you come to expect these days. In fact it was cheaper to get a burger and chips from the BBQ than order from the Kids menu which was a bit of a joke really.
Overall though everyone enjoyed the food, service was good, prices (bar the kids menu) were on par and I would go again if in that neck of the woods.
First time since new owners and went for Sunday lunch. Staff were really friendly and efficient. My only Critisim would be that the portion of beef was very skimpy, only 2 thin slices and half of that was fat so not great for the price. Everything else was perfect and would recommend the sticky toffee pudding which was delicious. Xxx
Delicious food, generous portions, wide variety. Friendly, attentive staff. Great garden for children to play in and adults to relax too.
Our first visit to the Blue Anchor having seen good reports following the new Manager taking over last year. We were not disappointed and very much enjoyed our meals which were presented well and appeared to use fresh veg etc. Service was bright, prompt and friendly, and appreciative. We will return to try other dishes on the menu especially as we live just a short walk away.
We had a lovely lunch with the added bonus of live music from Still Waters
We went the Blue Anchor for a birthday celebration and overall had a good time. The service was not particularly speedy but the staff worked hard to be attentive. The food was great and showed good presentation. The only bit of the day which was a disappointment was the noise levels from the larger groups particularly as we sat and watched a beautiful orchid being damaged when a blind d was lowered onto the flowerheads which were then stuffed back into the pot. Very much a family pub not so good for quiet dining to hear own conversation.
More than 1 hr from starters to main course. Dining area alongside main road. Appeared to be a dispute in the kitchen but no help except repeated apologies from waitress. Will not return.
Lovely meal in a pleasant atmosphere , only issue was the slow service due in part to our delay in deciding on food and the restaurant being pretty busy .
Excellent food, friendly helpful staff. Good value for money
Unfortunately we had to send the fish back as it was not cooked. The staff were very apologetic and quickly dealt with the problem. The service was very good.
Very polite warm welcome - We arrived early to enjoy some drinks in the garden - Very nicely set our, lots of space, comfortable tables and chairs - Lovely setting for children as well - nice and secure.
Then we took our table seat and this was very nicely laid our - Very clean and nice area to sit in - Service was very attentive, swift and prompt. Nothing was too much or too difficult - We were made to feel very welcome.
Food was perfect, everything tasty - Warm and nicely presented. Everything came out swiftly and any changes were noted and everything was perfect. Nice wait between the 3 courses. Puddings were especially delicious. - We left very satisfied and full.
We will definitely be returning again!
Great service and setting. Lovely food, huge children's portions. Would definitely go back.
Arriving and seeing the scaffolding we had doubts but on entry, we were very happy. Nice food, very good service and tables nicely spaced which meant it was not noisey.
Meal out for 7 on a Saturday. The food was great and really nice service. Well worth trying again if people haven’t been there for a while.
Really lovely food beautifully cooked. My only criticism was that my dish was meant to come with dauphinois potatoes but they didn't have them available. They did, however, offer several other choices and the crushed new potatoes with truffles, and chips we eventually chose were delicious.
good food, friendly staff and a really good place to eat in Crowborough, highly recommended
Excellent food cooked from scratch. No microwave cooking. Service is a little slower than some but you don’t get this quality and presentation in a flash.
Ordered fish and chips.when it came out eventually he chips were half wedges and half skins still on and also had few black bits in
Excellent Sunday lunch, we had to wait approximately an hour for our main course but as we were not in a hurray this was a not a problem and the food was all freshly cooked.
Friendly welcoming staff. Fantastic home cooked food freshly cooked.
Great food and very friendly staff! 5 star
Nice place. Good food, but beware if you have a fussy eater in your party! We all managed to eat a starter and a main-very good quality food. Dessert menu was disappointing. Out of chocolate ice cream! Would have liked to see some old favourites. A little arty, but very enjoyable. Will go again.
Very pleasant surroundings. Waitress was very polite and chatty and presented well. Food was of very high quality. Generally a very positive lunchtime dining experience.
Great choice on menu. Lovely fresh food. Good choice of gins!
Decor could be improved but food was very good and well presented
Lovely meal. Friendly staff and really good food.
Excellent meal, great service, the staff were very attentive.
We will definitely be back soon.
Will definitely return. Customer service was good and food was lovely.
Excellent food, all four of us loved the choices we had made. The scotch egg as a starter was perfectly cooked, the pork three ways as a main was perfect and the venison was very tender and tasty
Quality food and service, we will be going back again and recommending to friends and family.
I have eaten here a few times and the food is always good, if they get the order right which this time they didn’t. There was literally 12 other people dining so they weren’t rushed off their feet but they gave us someone else’s food. We didn’t complain as the burger was right and we just picked out the bits we didn’t want. At the end of the evening when they started to turn the lights off in the restaurant, we were made to feel uncomfortable and it was only 10.30pm. Menu is too fussy for my liking at the end of the day they are a pub in Crowborough.
The food is really good, some great flavour combinations with the Pork Three Ways being my favourite so far. The wine was good and service attentive. Both times we’ve been recently we’ve had to take some away with us as the portion sizes are quite large (if you’re having three courses)
Food excellent and staff lovely and welcoming. Will be going back, really turned this pub around!
Excellent food and a very welcoming atmosphere. A massive improvement on the previous 2 incarnations! Highly recommended.
