The bar/restaurant is traditional and welcoming.
Food was ok - both I and my wife ate off the specials menu. We both felt that the prices were a little inflated. My daughter had a cheeseburger which was over cooked and the table wasn’t cleared between the main course and dessert.

Everything was really good but we thought the portions were mean and have seen other reports like that. It’s a shame because extra veg would not cost a lot. It means it is not good value for money. Service impeccable

The four of us agreed that the quality of the food was excellent but the service was dire. It took 30 minutes and a reminder to get our drinks, and a further reminder to get water. Long after we'd finished our main course we had to go to the bar to ask for dessert menus and long after we'd finished those we had to ask (a cleaner?) for the bill. Oh, and on arrival the maitre d' didn't ask for our name and assumed (correctly I think) who we were, presumably because we were the last booking that evening, and showed us to our table. We never saw him again all evening. In a lifetime of dining out this service was amongst the worst. But I reiterate that the food was very good.

We took visitors to the Blue Ball, but were somewhat disappointed with limited menu selection. And whilst we understand the pressures that the hospitality sector are under at the moment, we found the service rather patchy.

Just returned from a very disappointing Sunday lunch !! I am rarely moved to write reviews but feel it imperative that others should be warned about the culinary disasters emanating from the Blue Ball Kitchen. I thought I might wait a few days before writing this review in the Hope that time might diminish the memory of this awful dining experience ….alas not.
We were greeted by a surly manager who told us we had only booked for 3 although our party was 4 and they were fully booked, upon showing him my booking for 4 he grunted, no apology and showed us to a table.
We decided to forgo starters as by this time we’re feeling a little disgruntled and ordered main courses. 2 roast beef, one pork belly and one gammon.
Alas things got worse, the plated meals deposited before us were obviously last weeks leftovers, I think the beef had died of old age as it was dried out and tough, the pork although tender was just set in a lump of congealed fat . These meals were accompanied by 3 very well warmed up previously roasted potatoes and warmed up red cabbage and carrots.
Included in the price of this fiasco were 3 glasses of wine and a non alcohol beer for the driver. We were charged the princely sum of £97.10 for this awful experience, indeed a gastronomic mugging thought to say the least.
Avoid at all cost.

Just the right level of attentive service. Good food served promptly(and hot where it should be!). Indoor and outdoor tables conform to COVID distancing guidelines whilst permitting the social atmosphere that is the lifeblood of pub dining. Advance booking encouraged. Recommended.

Had the Pork and Apple sausages, with mustard mash, onion rings and gravy. Very flavourfull and plenty of choice. Happily surprised having not dined for a few years. Great atmosphere and felt very welcome by staff, some confusion over what deserts we ordered and to what table, and had to ask for the bill twice. But staff were very nice and polite, throughout the evening. Would definitely come back to try some of the other food. Extensive drinks menu too!

We booked a table for 7.30 on a Sunday evening. We had travelled down from Dorset and hadn’t had a cooked meal that day so we’re hungry. I had a pork dish from the Sunday roast menu. We were seated in an area of the bar which was so dark that we had to use torches to read the menu. The food was lukewarm and distinctly average, as if it had been reheated. Later in the night I was seriously unwell which I believe was due to the food at the inn, although I realise that this is difficult to prove. Obviously we will not be eating there again.

Table was in a darkish area next to kitchen entrance so lots of traffic. They were busy so service was very slow. Menu choice was reasonable and food acceptable for price. My wife was cold most of the time. Not sure we would go back.

A catalogue of errors really. We arrived late (did phone ahead to inform) as our taxi got lost. The kitchen was closing at 9, and as a table of 9 it seemed a little ambitious in the first instance to let us have a booking for 8pm. Our little corner of the restaurant was so dark we were using our phone torches to read the menu. One member of the party was so disappointed with her dauphinois potatoes that she complained - to be curtly told "that's how they're made". As it was a birthday celebration meal we all felt deflated and let down. I'm not one for complaining, or writing a bad review, but it needs to be done sometimes. around 8.55pm we were offered dessert menus... when the staff reappeared to see if we'd like anything, we were then told the kitchen was shut, so no puddings. Soft drinks and cups of tea were removed from bill as a goodwill gesture. I think if you're going to try The Blue Ball, book for 6pm so there's time to get through all courses and not feel unwelcome.

Fantastic lunch, the pub's new management certainly know what they're doing. The food was incredible and staff were very attentive. Atmosphere was perfect, nice and quiet but other tables creating a gentle buzz of chat. Staff all seemed very young, late teens I think, which felt a little odd but they were all very professional. Clean and tidy venue. Faultless afternoon except that we couldn't add a tip to our bill and pay it by card - part of the company policy apparently- so we had to tip by cash. Fortunately we had some! Highly recommend the Blue Ball, you won't be disappointed.
