The Blue Hen is a very good restaurant. The room is impressive and the staff is welcoming and attentive. We were there late Friday night and the room was active but on the quiet side, which was perfect for us. The octopus and pork belly appetizers were perfectly done and both tender. The venison loin I had was also a perfect medium rare, tender and excellently flavored. The prices are substantial but clearly in line with what you get. A fine place to dine in Saratoga.
As a group of four, we decided to try the weekday price fixed menu (three courses and a glass of wine for about $40. Three of us had the mussels as a starter, which were very good. Three of us had the short ribs, which were good but far from the best I’ve had. One serving was largely fat. The whole Branzino was excellent. The dessert was okay, but not extraordinary. The glass of red included in the meal was, charitably, drinkable. Given the choice of a full bottle of the same for, I believe, $41, we opted for an Argentinian Malbec for around $60, which was fine, but hardly a $60 bottle. To summarize, the wine list was overpriced with nothing under $50.
The atmosphere of the glass pavilion might have been nice for a Sunday brunch, but on an Autumn weeknight with most tables unoccupied, was uninviting.
The waiter could not have been nicer. High marks for him.
Overall, because of the prix fixe, the dinner was a very good value. If I were paying full freight, it would have been disappointing.
I had a wonderful dinner at The Blue Hen. Everything was cooked to perfection, service superior and the room is elegant. 5 star experience in upstate New York.
Food was expertly presented. However service left much to be desired. The waiter was difficult to find and then never once checked on the table through three courses. Needed to waive him down at all points. At the end of the meal he could not process the debit card so wife had to use her credit card.
The food at the Blue Hen for brunch was good however our service was pretty bad. Our waitress informed us that they were out of short ribs so any dish containing short ribs would not be available. This was not a big deal until 30 minutes later when we witnessed the table next to us ordering short ribs which they received. According to our waitress, they were able to find more somewhere? On top of this, there was live entertainment which I love but unfortunately, it was very overpowering in the small space. It was difficult to hear the person talking across the table when trying to have a conversation. I love the space of the Blue Hen, it is very pretty but I wish our experience had been better.
We had our rehearsal dinner here a year ago and they made our anniversary just as great. The food and service (thank you Lorenzo) were amazing, and the fact that glasses of Prosecco and dessert were complimentary was an added bonus. Thank you for making our night special.
The menu is very limited and two of the already minimal menu items were out. The substitution I ordered was not very good. Too bad as we love the ambience
Great food and service. Glad I was able to sample the great breakfast menu. Server was attentive and efficient.
N1 Was our anniversary I make a note I went there early in the day to confirm they don’t do anything
N2 restaurants very loud
N3 food very mediocre preparation same food you can get in as diner
We did enjoy the atmosphere and the service was exceptional. The food was ok but we expected more. The chef should taste the food before it goes out to the table - seasoning would help. The presentation was nice. Although the food was disappointing we had a great time. We will however not return or recommend this restaurant.
Very good, will definitely go back
My husband and I had a very memorable dining experience at The Blue Hen. The service was too notch; friendly, prompt, efficient while not being intrusive. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and uniquely designed. Extensive wine list, and food was nothing short of perfection.
Great food. Great music. Great service. Perfect brunch!
The food as expected was very good. The service was about the worst I've ever endured. I should have known when it took 20 minutes to clear and set our table. The waitstaff, a swarm of young girls running in circles or struggling with the computer seemed oblivious to our existence. You could not catch anyone's eye: another 20 minutes to get coffee refilled. An hour passed, "we had a mixup", and my wife got her food. The remaining 3 diners got thier food 15 minutes later. There was no one to complain to as our hostess joined the maelstrom of gyrating wait staff. All this in a classy hotel under no management.
Had a Saturday brunch with some friends. The venue is incredible, beautiful glass room in the historic Adelphia Hotel. The brunch menu covered the basics..... food, service, drinks, etc. were very good. No hurry to turn the table which was very relaxing. Highly recommend the "Eggs & Bacon" starter firstly because its bacon!!!! Secondly how it's served makes it worth ordering.... this won't be the cheapest brunch you've every had however you get what you pay for.
The food here is delicious. We had i) the lobster and mushrooms, and ii) the scallops. However, service is uneven and confused. When we were shown to the table, the maitre d' did not make a move to help with either one of our chairs. The waiter brought us a Sancerre blanc after we ordered (and pointed to the entry on the wine list) the Sancerre rouge. A good thing that we noticed before he opened the bottle.
The waitstaff who brought the plates never seemed to know who ordered what at the table (there were only 2 of us). And they just plopped the plates down without consideration of what we were doing or saying at the time. Whatever happened to "serve from the left, clear from the right"? For we germophobes, a hook on the table for a lady's purse or a stool would be nice to keep it off the floor.
This was a beautiful location to celebrate a birthday. We sat outside, under the tent top. The food was yummy and the plates were pretty to look at.
The drinks and sushi were wonderful, but the entrees were lacking.
Our server was not that attentive and had little personality and less enthusiasm. The main course was very good but the green salad was away. I think it had been sitting around for days. It was wet, parts were not fresh and two tiny pieces of crouton were beyond soggy. I'm not sure they even belonged in this salad
Monday evening following Travers' Stakes so it was very quiet. We each thoroughly enjoyed our meals and service.
Absolutely lovely. Delicious French toast! Recommended by our lovely waitress. Eggs were delicious as well
Too noisy. A second bar on the premises had different music. Way too cheap sounding for a fancy restaurant.
Come here if you want great food and a superb wine list. AND you don’t mind a lot of noise and a long wait for a cocktail. All hard surfaces accounts for the noise. No bar except the main hotel bar accounts for the cocktail problem. But once you get past that the food is quite creative and fun. Worth it unless you’re in a hurry and/or have hearing difficulties.
Lovely space, great service and creative offerings. Highly recommended.
We started with the Sushi, Burratta, and the Octopus. The Burratta was delicious, however the Octopus was a bit tough (not fresh) and the sushi was good but not great. The Lobster and Cod special was delicious - perfectly cooked and beautifully prepared. The scallops also were beautifully prepared and delicious, and the peas/corn were very fresh. The chicken was fairly difficult to cut / eat but tasted very good.
The meal was fantastic. The tomato and crab soup was fantastic. Benny our server was great. The glassed in dining room made for a nice romantic dinner.
Terrible! Duck dish inedible. $15 Wine pour skimpy--5/6 sips. Service inattentive.
I really was excited about this place but there was a hair in my food and the service wasn't great. Super sweet waitress and did right by me. I would still recommend it but disappointed in the experience.
Rain had put our reservation back because we had outdoor seating. But the staff couldn’t have been more gracious and accommodating. The maitre d did everything he could to get us seated and his manager was right there through it all. It was worth the wait. We were seated on the front porch with a nice view of the Broadway strip. The waiter was there every time you need him and made us feel like we were the only ones there. The sommelier picked us a great wine and the food was amazing.
Service was great and the room was attractive. Unfortunately the duck was inedible - it was like eating shoe leather.
Way overpriced. Chicken had very little meat on it.
Although the food was very good they were short staff and the service for the price was sub standard. Our waiter was way over worked. They need to have a separate waiter assigned to the bar and serving wine. Some one else to help the waiter pick up dirty dishes, etc. etc. Not the service I expect from a high quality restaurant.
A new restaurant for us and we are very impressed. The setting is very attractive. The menu featured light fare with sushi which is a nice treat. Our dinners were delicious. Lobster and black cod was special. Service very professional. All in all will return often.
We went to The Blue Hen for my daughters 18th birthday. We were not only greeted by a friendly hostess, but were then followed by a lovely server, Michelle. The manager on staff, Patrick, added to our experience by bringing her the delicious matcha tea donut holes to help us celebrate. Not only was the room beautiful and perfect to celebrate in, but it was quiet enough for an intimate conversation. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will defiantly be back!
The restaurant was more expensive than we expected, but was charming with wonderful food and service. It is also right on the main street which is very convenient.
Our time at the Blue Hen was incredible from the moment we arrived and the host greeted us and wished my girlfriend a Happy Birthday til the moment we left. Ryan, our gracious server who is also the Sommelier on staff was engaging, informative about wine and food pairings, and a true beacon of the hospitality industry. The food was outstanding and portions were appropriate for this level of dining. We enjoyed appetizers, entrees, and dessert and left feeling satisfied without feeling gluttonous. Their French inspired wine list paired incredibly well with the menu also. All in all, 5 stars from us and we cannot wait to come back!
Too many good restaurants to go here and have a hit and miss experience for $$$$. Personally went to the restaurants and spoke to the mgr. and matre d' to make my reservations that night. When 2 of the 4 of us arrived we learned the mgr. had given away our table and we would have to wait.
While we waited in the bar, the other 2 in our party of 4 arrive and were told they were the first to arrive! I had texted them we were in the bar so they found us and eventually we were seated but not at the table I had reserved outside!
During dinner, the salad we ordered was terrible. They we out of the dish I selected but chose the fish recommended by the waiter. I've had this type of fish many times which happens to be my favorite. This fish was inedible Flavorless, zero eye appeal and strange texture. I think this substitute fish was partially frozen when it was prepared. Awful. Incredibly, the other 3 dinners were very good.
My husband and I went on our first date night in over a year, without our preschool-aged child. We have just moved to the area, and I didn’t know what to expect. My dinner was spectacular, I had the honey-truffle young chicken, but my husband’s dinner was acceptable, not really anything special (he had the lamb). The ambiance, as well as the service, were also spectacular, and it very much felt like we had stepped into another world with the charm of the hotel, and restaurant! Definitely a special place for extra-special occasions-only. Cappuccinos were 5-stars, and I am a coffee-snob - not too many places wow me, dessert was nothing special - chocolate-espresso cake, that tasted like boxcake. Even with the couple of letdowns, overall our night was one of my favourite dining experiences.
I had a difficult time finding something on the menu that suited my taste. I had Hamchi Crudo and it was tasteless. Some might enjoy the sushi bar menu.
Just outstanding food, in perfect portions. Great wine list as well. Our favorite restaurant in Saratoga.
