Once again we had a lovely lunch at the Boarding House. Pleasant waiters and great food. As I live in the village I love the fact that it's so handy and would advise anyone who is thinking about going to go.
I was there for a birthday meal which was delicious. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday carvery and my mum raved about the fish and chips which I have already sampled!Looking forward to returning very soon.
Have been here a handful of times and the food is great. Brought my family on Sunday for my Dad's birthday and the meals were all excellent. We were a bit disappointed when they did not have some of the desserts we wanted but the overall experience made up for this.
We have enjoyed the Sunday Roast the last three weeks great quality of food ,big portions.. excellent value for money..
My grandson and I had lunch at the Boarding house on Wednesday. It was our first visit. It was very nice. The staff were very friendly and chatty. Our meal was very good value. We both had three courses. There was plenty of it. My grandson had a Cajun chicken burger and I had Balmoral chicken, both were very good. We met an exceptionally nice local lady, who we chatted with. Would certainly recommend this venue.
The waiting staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help our friend who has Motor Neuron Disease.
We dine here quite regularly & have always had a great experience , however when we visited this time the service was really quite poor. Having to wait for prolonged periods of time for drinks & food & then not offered the menu to choose a dessert. We were dining early & the restaurant was not particularly busy either. Wouldn’t stop us returning as the food & service are normally second to none.
Been to the Howwood Inn in it's various guises over the years, even though it has lost its way in terms of a being a village pub, it is pleasant . Food was okay, little expensive for size of portions. Service could be improved, had to ask four times for water to be brought to the table. Night ended with a sour note as my jacket (£150) was taken from the coat stand in the middle of the restaurant, never to be seen again. Recommend keeping personal belongings close. Might go again on day.
Venue is lovely, but it was quite busy when we were there, so service was very slow. Staff were very pleasant and food was good, but a 45 min wait for our main course seems a bit long. Shame really as it puts me off going back. We eventually abandoned the idea of a dessert as nobody came back for our order having given us a menu, so that didn’t bode well. We could of course have chased up the very busy serving staff, but it was easier just to leave.
Went for dinner before a music gig up the stairs so it was early. Relatively quiet when we went in but it got busier evening progressed. Food was good, although you would probably struggle if ur vegetarian the were very few veggie options.
Tasty meal & generally a nice place.
As always, the food and service were excellent on our latest visit with friends, we all enjoyed our choices from the lunch menu and also the coffee and cake offer. We have booked for Sunday lunch with family next month
A very good meal in lovely surroundings, attentive staff. Very well priced.
Spent a lovely Mother's Day with my daughters, mother in law and grandsons. The food and service were as always exceptional.
Always dependable for a lovely meal, great service and a welcoming atmosphere
This was a rare treat that my husband and I found time to dine out together, and this was the perfect place to come to. I had been on one occasion for lunch on a friends recommendation and was delighted then so came back with my husband. The food was lovely, the quality and portion sizes excellent. The variety was great from standard favourites ( for those like my husband , difficult to please, who enjoy traditional food and not too fancy the steak and ale pie was perfect!) , to the more interesting but perfectly cooked and presented. (haggis fritters and mash starter with peppercorn sauce was fantastic) I am about to book to for our whole family (28 of us)to dine together for a special birthday and I there will be all ages, 4 yrs to 71 and I know there will be something to suit everyone and no-one will be disappointed! I booked on line then had unexpected visitors, had to change again on line, no problems and made most welcome on arrival. Wont break the bank either!
Ps. I don't usually do reviews but this couldn't be ignored!
Good experience, service was pleasant and food tasty
We had a lovely meal, but we weren't told when we booked that it was a set menu
for the Sunday. Would not go back on a Sunday as menu didn't suit everyone.
All in all it still was a very enjoyable meal.
Good food and lovely staff nice atmosphere lovely and warm on a cold night
Staff very friendly and helpful, food was amazing, definately go back very soon.
Had a great night at the Boarding House with friends. Experienced a wonderful meal together with excellent service. Thank you very much.
Had a very pleasant evening with lovely food but amazed at the kitchen having run out of fillet steaks at 7o'clock in the evening this was our only dissapointment with the menu.
Food was lovely, as was the wine. Nice relaxed atmosphere
Had a meal for my dads birthday. Food and service was excellent. Waitress was very attentive to young niece and nephew. Good value with a good range of food and drink choices.
Excellent steak cooked to perfection
Lovely surroundings with very good food. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Good sized portions, lovely fresh veg and value for money.
Great food and great service. The fixed price for two or three courses is excellent value for money.
One of my favourite places to go and eat! Lovely staff, amazing food.. amazing alcohol! Would highly recommend it to anyone!
Have been to the Boarding House a few times now and have been happy with the service and the food. Nice place to go with the family.
Food was poor, King Prawns Pil Pil were small prawns for a prawn cocktail. No chill or garlic. Steak main had no vine cherry tomatoes. Will not be back.
We had a lovely meal it was just unfortunate that there was problems with the heating as it was very cold, couldn't fault the staff as they were very apologetic , these things happen and it won't put us off going again.
Good food, good value in nice surroundings and great service.
Lovely meal with good vegetarian options. Comfortable and friendly with excellent food and service. I look forward to my next visit.
Great friendly & efficient service even when the restaurant was extremely busy.
Food was piping hot, portions were enormous . Great value for money
This is a gem of a restaurant it always delivers top quality food combined with excellent service, we have never had any reason to complain about anything, well worth a visit.
Went for festive afternoon tea. Great selection of cakes. We couldn't finish ours and went home with box of leftovers. Staff very friendly. This was our first visit but will be going back again soon.
21st meal as usual service and food excellent
First time at this restaurant even though it is not far from where we live. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, attention from staff. Only comment is that the long bench seating is too low for the table. I felt that I needed a cushion to sit on to bring me up to an acceptable seating height...and I'm not too short.
As usual the food was excellent.
The staff are always friendly and provide fabulous customer service.
Let me start by saying I am a hard person to please!
I live locally to this restaurant, when it first opened (after recent renovation) I went for dinner I was not very impressed, the menu was confusing and trying to be too posh. After suggestions from friends to give it another try all I can say is I am SO glad I did.
Howwood is a small village with few local amenities, 1 pub..1 village store..1 cafe...a "local hotel" (I'll get to that soon!) and The Boarding House.
All I can say now is the Boarding House is fantastic. I dined with my wife for a late dinner (19:30). The staff were immediately welcoming and very friendly, jackets taken and we were seated very quickly. Menus and wine list arrived straight away and we were given a few minutes to settle before drinks orders were taken. Great selection of beers on offer, large selection of gins etc. Our order arrived promptly and we were given more time to look over the menu before ordering.
I was going to say the menu was simple now but that seems like a negative comment...shall I just say the menu wasn't confusing but there lots of great choices but not overly complicated. Ok there was no sushi or egg yolk licked with asparagus smoke....but real dishes like garlic King Prawns or sautéed mushrooms or dare I say it but even prawn cocktail (this is what I had and I must say it was just great!)
The main dishes were also nicely varied, the menu represents a good balance of quality restaurant food from fish and chips to steaks, salmon, pasta and vegetarian. Our main dishes were also very good, char grilled pork and a chicken balmoral. Both were served with ample sides of well prepared vegetables and potatoes (mashed that worked great with our sauces). No room for dessert!
Our previous restaurant of choice was the "local hotel". Well all I can say is if the "local hotel" is reading this then you should visit The Boarding House, this place does everything you should aspire to!
Excellent evening, staff and service superb. Food was lovely and great value
