A Historical Coaching Inn with Traditional bar and a formal dining room; both with its own character.

We serve a great selection of pub classics, using as much produce from the nearby Ripley Castle Estate & Gardens as possible. Our chefs are constantly inspired to create special dishes to take advantage of the 2000 acre Estate and extensive Walled gardens produce.

We serve a selection of popular local real ales and have guest beers on a regular basis including some rare gems, so there is always a reason to pop into the bar.

There is a well structured and varied wine list suitable for all levels of wine drinker from affordable afternoon drinking through to more powerful and exquisite wines, which can be matched to our dishes to create a full dining experience.

We cater for any number of guests from couples to larger parties, families and dog friendly tables in the bar.

Please note we are unable to reserve tables outdoors.

The food was exceptional...well presented, good quality, piping hot and very tasty. The wine is a little pricey but the drinks in the bar are average prices. The staff in the dining room, evening and breakfast were competent and pleasant. We would highly recommend the food here.

We went for Sunday Lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary (we got married at Ripley Castle). We haven't eaten at the Boars Head for quite a few years. The beef sunday lunch was very tasty and I would definitely have that again. My husband had the veggie burger and reported it was that big he had to eat it with a knife and fork and that it wasn't enjoyable at all. If you like burgers that are about 2 inches thick you might like it! We were seated in the restaurant area and the décor is very bland, I think its the dark grey commercial office type carpet that does it! Its definitely lacking something. The service was ok, nothing special, but nothing to complain about.

The issue of a hair in your food is unfortunate but generally accidental when you return your food for a replacement and that too has hair in it there is no excuse . This experience was made worse by the waitresses response..."well nobody else has complained " . Not good .

Thank you for your review and we totally understand how upset you are. As far as I can see there are two issues, one with the kitchen brigade, who are mortified and cannot comprehend how this happened twice and the second is a training issue with our waiting staff and how they approach customers in such situations. Our Duty Manager spoke to you on the day and I understand from her you were happy with the gesture she made to rectify the situation for you. I can only apologise for the rude and quite unacceptable behaviour from one of the waiting staff, which having been highlighted will be addressed with the whole team.

We arrived to a packed Ripley. No parking available at the Boars Head and parked on pay and display field which was nearly half a mile away. The pub was packed and although I had booked weeks ago we were seated in the busy bar area not the restaurant. The bar was a main thoroughfare to the toilets which all of visitors to Ripley castle were using. The bar was noisy and not pleasant. The menu was limited to choices of 2 roasts and was quite expensive in comparison to other Sunday lunch priced nearby. The food came promptly but the vegetables were undercooked almost raw. The pork was tough and the crackling would break your teeth. Not a great experience.
