The Boatman offers classic British food with a seasonal, modern twist using locally sourced fresh ingredients whenever possible and is famous for the legendary Eton Mess as featured on BBC’s The One Show.
Great menu and delicious food. Excellent service and cosy warm ambience. We have come by train from Croydon 3 times to eat here for special occasions and have never been disappointed!!!! Highly recommended! We will eat there again!
Very poor food, service good thankfully. Understood our frustrations and knocked 10% off the bill. Just a shame. Great setting, but no love or effort made with the food. Even forgot the patty for the burger!
Everything about the boatman was good the only draw back for us was the size of the main meal the portions are enormous and it rather put us off
An excellent Lunch
It’s a tick on all levels
All in all a fantastic lunch by the river
The food was good and the staff very pleasant. Nice touch to bring out a desert with a candle for thre'Birthday Boy'
Family lunch to celebrate my birthday. No welcome when we arrived in the bar area, but were eventually shown outside to the dining area which was much nicer. Had to send a glass of wine back as there was something floating in it! Main courses were excellent and everyone cleared their plates, as were the desserts although the dessert menu was uninspiring. Would definitely go again, but in the summer to enjoy the riverside position more
I can easily recommend The Boatman! The food was delicious, I really enjoyed my meal! Sitting by a fireplace when it was so cold outside was a big pleasure. And the staff so friendly. I would like to thank you for keeping my 2y old busy whilst I could enjoy meeting my cousin for the first time ever. You were so helpful and he really enjoyed your company! :) I'm so glad I've picked up that place for my meeting!
Had a great meal here very pleasant , staff very nice ,
Had my daughters 18th birthday meal there. They accommodated my wishes for table decorations and made the night exceptional. Would definite recommend them
I have to throw down a WOW! From the apps to the Eaton mess great cooking. Entertaining customers and we had an outstanding meals. The Scollops, Salmon, Italian plate were stand out apps. The Pan Cod and the Lamb were crowd favorites. The risotto was also highly regarded. Which brought us to the Eaton Mess which finished the meal with a well balanced Light finish. Very Well done, one of the easiest recommendation I could make.
Nice dining area in a new building on the riverside. Food was tasty and service good.
The food wasn’t cheap but it was a really lovely venue, we sat outside in the glass hut area. The food was delicious and they were big portions. The staff were very friendly and always around to help. Highly recommend this place
Nice lunch looking over the Thanes. Food was good and service was better. Great location.
Excellent restaurant located right on the river at Eton. Excellent service, staff and tasty food. Would highly recommend!!
Service was vry slow even when there was less people
Conservatory is great but main pub not so inviting . So , very good food and service lovely waiters very friendly . Lovely location
The Sunday lunch - 6 of us had beef and 1 had pork - was excellent value. The food was cooked well, nicely presented (on hot plates) and plentiful. Nice desserts too, especially the Eton Mess (very calorific). All washed down with a very reasonable Rioja at £25/bottle. Friendly and attentive staff.
Lovely venue right on the river. Food was fantastic we had Sunday lunch & the Yorkshire puddings were light & crispy . Can be popular venue book in advance staff friendly & helpful
My daughter and I were looking for good food in a relaxing restaurant with some character; the Boatman ticked all our boxes. Prompt professional service and delicious food; we can highly recommend the Sunday roast!
We booked The Boatman for a family pre-Christmas get together and were impressed with the friendly staff who were very helpful. We were seated in the conservatory which overlooked the river, lovely venue warm and cosy with a great view. Food was excellent, portion sizes very generous. Prices pretty reasonable for what you receive. Would recommend & happily come here again! Many thanks.
Great food, service, but noisy only cause Xmas party people in! Would defo recommend
A very relaxed Sunday lunch, I had roast lamb cooked just pink, perfect, we were in the conservatory on a cold day but not aware it was winter, would definitely go again, and recommend.
Amazing Sunday Lunch. Great service. * Loved the conservatory area. The Italian Red Wine was luvverly.
Lovely ambiance, waitresses and waiters very friendly and professional. Food was great! Good menu to choose from and will definitely recommend and will return in the summer as the scenes are gorgeous!
Love this place so much and always look forward to coming back every time. The staff are amazing and so friendly. And the food is INCREDIBLE!!
Been here many times and always been amazing but this Sunday .. food awful , beef very fatty and tasteless , such a shame as always been my favourite roast dinner .. very disappointed ☹️
Very very slow with drinks. Bruschetta wasn’t toasted enough and the haloumi hadn’t been on the grill long enough either. Disappointed.
Very pleasant atmosphere initially but very loud as the glazed dining area filled up. Excellent service and fine food. Highly recommended but be wary of the rising noise level as the tables fill up.
I've eaten here before and loved it so thought I would pay it another visit while in town. Unfortunately this time it was not nearly as enjoyable. Our order was taken and then we were left, no one came to take a drink order or bring water, we had to call a waiter over. Food was nice, value was good but
Very noisy due to a couple of very disrespectful tables that did seem to bother most other guests. Probably won't go back, plenty of other places to try.
A very good pub and the meals were excellent. Service was slow between courses.
Have been here before and had an amazing sunday roast. This time was not so great, my husbands beef was lovely but my lamb was just fat, he gave me some of his beef to compensate. I did mention it to the waiter when he came and asked how the food was and he offered to get some additional meat for me but by this time I was almost full up on the veggies and potatoes so declined. The conservatory was freezing and the temperature was finally cranked up after several complaints. A shame because my first encounter was so good but this one was disappointing.
Great food. Lovely to look out on the river. Good service
Grate food, good location, nice atmosphere. Staff could be a bit more attentive.
Amazing roast and lovely staff who are very attentive
Lovely atmosphere,staff friendly,hard working.Food very good.
Great location. Will definitely be going back.
Great meal for my Father's birthday.
Staff were very helpful and friendly - they didn't rush us along and even let us cut our own birthday cake! Lovely setting by the river
We were seated in the conservatory restaurant, directly opposite from the automatic doors. We asked if we could move to a table that wasn’t directly opposite the door and were told that all the other tables were reserved (the restaurant at the time was only 10% occupied). So we requested a table inside the main pub. Once seated, we waited to be served, no one arrived. My husband went to the bar and asked if we needed to place the food order at the bar or was it ravel service. We were told that a waitress would come over to us, which one did. We ordered our drinks and food including starters. After a short time our main meal came out, it was a different waitress to the one that had taken out order, I mentioned that we had ordered starters at stick point she went and checked with her colleague. The waitress who had taken our food and drink order returned to the table and apologised for forgetting to order our starters, she offered to get us a free round of drinks but since we had barely touched ours we suggested they take something off at the end. Food was a good portion size, my only criticism would be it want piping hot, more borderline lukewarm but tasty nonetheless. We are our meal (roast lamb and roast beef) and then ordered desserts. After we had eaten the desserts we asked for the bill. No discount had been applied for the mix up with the starters. The restaurant wasn’t particular busy when we ate there which makes it difficult to justify the lack of attention to detail and basic customer service. The tables were sticky/tacky almost like they hadn’t been cleaned properly. This was our first visit to the boatman, both my husband and I felt like it had been overhyped. Not the best first impression!
We booked Sunday lunch having been here once before. The conservatory where we ate had great views of the river but unlike last time, the music was much louder than we would’ve liked. We booked for 12.45 but weren’t served until nearly an hour later. When the food came it was lovely but did feel slightly forgotten about in terms of service (it was obviously busy on a Sunday.) Would still recommend lunch here for the summer.
With a superb position by the Thames this is a great restaurant. Superbly prepared and tasty food. Try the duck salad starter and the Sunday roast. Best in the region
