The Boatman, is Windsor’s only pub on the river at the foot of Windsor Castle overlooking Eton Bridge. Serving freshly cooked food all day everyday from midday to 10pm at night, in the cosy bar, restaurant or in the stunning riverside all-weather conservatory, there is a fine selection of wine, ales, gin and vodka cocktails to choose from.
The bar area is dog friendly, we cannot accept any pets in the conservatory or restaurant. The menu is same everywhere. Please mention you are bringing a dog with you if you are dining with us.
The restaurant can seat up to 80 covers and the conservatory with it’s retractable roof can also provide dining for up to 80 people. Perfect for both private and corporate events; parties, leaving-dos, office lunches, company parties, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and family get-together.
Topped with Gherkins, Tomatoes, with Mixed Leaves and Chunky Chips
Mild Lamb Curry
Deliciously mild spiced lamb
10 oz Sirloin Steak
Beautiful location spoilt only by rather average food. The mozzarella salad was really tasteless and the meat of the burger lookedd and tasted rather "industrial". In these days of "gourmet burgers" I expected something a bit better. The service was very good and it's a great loctaion by the river. Just a pity about the average food.
Lovely Sunday lunch, great prices for portions for lunch and pudding.
Service was a little slow but they were very busy and I can imagine they had reduced numbers to social distance.
Lovely setting. Sunday Lunch menu has a very nice selection of traditional roasts. Very stylishly presented and cooked. Considering the gorgeous location, pricing is very reasonable.
A very pleasant location on a lovely sunny Sunday. Unfortunately the sun umbrellas don’t shield unless the sun is directly overhead which given our latitude is a short window each year. However next best is sitting in the conservatory with the adjustable open roof, which we did. Food was delicious although my battered fish could have been lighter and crispier. We didn’t try the Sunday roasts which seem to take precedence. Will return on a different day to see if I’m right!
Disappointed that the table time limit was a) not informed prior to 20 minutes into the booking b) started from when I arrived a little early and was seated without being told this would be the start of the 'clock', and c) the constant pressure to have our plates cleared/speed up our dining experience before eventually moving indoors to avoid the constant badgering. Food was good as was service otherwise.
It was a little bright in the conservatory but the service and food was amazing
Good food in a lovely setting right by the river Thames. We were in Windsor to celebrate my birthday and the complimentary drinks were a lovely touch. We would visit again if we were in the area.
Fantastic experience at the boatman!!
I will definitely come back again with more friends.
Food was really tasty, good size portions and the fish and lamb in particular were very nice!
Service was almost rude though and unwelcoming - enough to put us off returning at least in the near term
Good food and service. Inside the Pub as we had a canine with us. Music was a little loud given that we should not raise I voices with Covid about, and some very rowdy men cam inside later who had been on the terrace since 6pm. Then it was REALLY loud!
Amazing food and reasonable for such quality,we were also allowed to bring in our dog into the bar area, which was great , but unfortunately there was a table in the middle with very loud men and a lot of swearing which sadly but a bit of a 'downer' on the evening but not the pubs fault ! Would def come back though!
The riverside conservatory is a lovely destination for a lunch by the river. The food was tasty and my colleague who had some specific dietary requirements was accommodated easily. Service was efficient and pleasant.
The Boatman was the perfect venue for a small group of friends to reunite after almost seven months (due to COVID). For a Monday evening, the restaurant was pretty busy but the tables were well spaced and laid out to allow social distancing. The service was excellent, particularly our waiter who was very attentive and funny - really sorry I didn’t get his name (blonde with glasses). The food and drinks were served really quickly. The sea bass was delicious and the burgers were okay but I think they may have served the vegan version. We had a really lovely evening and didn’t feel rushed to leave at the end of our meal. It’s not our first visit and it won’t be our last!
The glass house was lovely, giving shelter from wind, rain and smokers.
However, it was very warm on a nice afternoon and we should have asked for more windows open.
We would have a appreciated more time between courses.
We couldn’t sit outside to eat due to “wasps” which was disappointing so say in the conservatory bit which was fine but you don’t get such a good view of the river. Food was ok. Husband had slow cooked lamb & mash which he said was delicious. I had the fish cake which was nice but the salad it came with was disappointing & exactly the same salad as I had with my prawn skewers starter. Good location. Friendly staff & quick service. Would return.
Food was very acceptable and service good. Valery nice setting overlooking the river. As my first proper meal out since restrictions were eased, I would have been more comfortable if all the serving staff had been wearing face coverings when at the table.
We went to The Boatman twice in a row during our stay in Windsor. Overall it was absolutely amazing. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was super delicious and very well prepared. We had Sirloin Steak with Blue Cheese Sauce and both my husband and I LOVED it! We definitely recommend to everyone to stop by and have their meal in this lovely place by the river with amazing view. We will definitely come back.
Been going to the Boatman for years and wonderful setting with the covered area next to the river. Staff are great and thoroughly recommend the food especially the Eton Mess !
Lovely meal, served by a friendly team in a great location. Would definitely recommend the Eton Mess!
Great food & service, lovely view from table,a generally happy experience, will attend again!
Good food and great service would definately recimmend
one of the best burgers I have ever had very nice
First time at this lovely place next to the river. We loved this restaurant from the minute we walked in and was shown our table with a beautiful view of the river. The staff were quick to ask us what we wanted to drink and take our order for food. We must say the food was amazing and beautifully cooked we both had the roast beef roast and it was perfect, we were very filled but couldn’t resist the Eton Mess which again was perfect. We will return again for another weekend at Windsor as soon as possible and will be definitely returning to the Boatman.
Wendy and Pete
I recommend this restaurant every one who like have a good customer service and food. Nice view on riverside and easy parking.
Arrived earlier than our reservation but seated us straight away. Lovely setting right by the river . Food exceptional and kids loved the chicken and chunky chips, all home made . Would recommend and will be going back when we visit Windsor again.
Good quality pub food. Service very good. Clean, hand sanitisers readily available. Tables cleaned well after customers had left. Only negative thing, courses were quite rushed, but much time between courses. Overall though would recommend.
I had the Shoulder of Lamb which just melted in my mouth ... Absolutely Delicious!
Went with 2 kids fast brilliant service excellent food
Visited the boatman for some lunch. Food took over 40 minutes to come which left us not being able to have a dessert as we were rushed for a time. Had to ask multiple times how long the food will be , the food was good and worth the money we paid as we ate out via the eat out to help out scheme.
Food and service at The Boatman was lovely. Very attentive and friendly staff. We ate during the government scheme but didn't feel like we were being rushed for the next customers. Value for money was excellent and beautiful location. Would highly recommend and looking forward to going back.
Lovely location. Attentive staff. Great menu. Will definitely come again.
Nice afternoon good food and pleasant atmosphere.
Sat under the outside sheltered area with a great view of the river. Food & Drink Menu choice was good. All staff were friendly and helpful. Were only given a 2 hour time slot which was a shame as we would have stayed a bit longer and had another drink.
Lovely spot on the River Thames. Food and service good despite difficulties from Covid-19 issues. Will be back
Disappointing. Reserved a table for outside due to having two women of the party who are pregnant and was told upon arrival that we weren’t allowed to eat on the terrace. No one called to inform me of this and seemed abrupt when discussing this. Had to leave the restaurant.
Great service from all members of staff - made the experience memorable.
Food was great and arrived quickly and same goes for the wine. Awesome experience and will for sure being going back
was very busy but fabulous service and delicious food, we booked in advance, it was busy so I would do that. The fish cake was huge and tasty with a lovely salad.
It is obviously very well organised!
Food And location were beautiful... I would definitely recommend!
Really enjoyable family lunch, very good size portions, good service and great value for money.
Good Covid measures in place.
Service was great.
Went for a sunday roast, all was good but a massive shame about the roast potatoes, not crispy at all!
No fault of the restaurant's but as we sat in the boxed outside area with windows open, we were getting a lot of unwanted attention from wasps so would probably chose to sit inside next time.
