The restaurant can seat up to 80 covers and the conservatory with it’s retractable roof can also provide dining for up to 80 people. Perfect for both private and corporate events; parties, leaving-dos, office lunches, company parties, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and family get-togethers. The Boatman offers classic British food with a seasonal, modern twist using locally sourced fresh ingredients whenever possible and is famous for the legendary Eton Mess as featured on BBC’s The One Show.
We sat outside and had an early supper - food, fast and efficient service and ambience all excellent. So good that we returned for lunch the next day. Thoroughly recommended
Staff friendly and rushed off their feet.
Small issue of having to order twice for coffee but given the order as complimentary by way of apology.
Happy to recommend and would go again.
Very short staffed and consequently slow and inconsistent service. Didn’t help that a very noisy group of 10 people were seated next to half way through the meal. Disappointing.
It was clear from the moment we arrived, that although restaurant bookings are available on a Sunday until 8pm, they really want to just get you out as quickly as possible. They forgot our starter - brought our main, which was cold - and then when I sent it back and said we would like our meal as we ordered it, after the starter the same plates came back which had just been heated up. The young waiters are lovely, but are not trained to deal with problems, and management hid. At just after 8 they turned off the music and started clearing up around us - if we had wanted fast food, we would have gone to MacDonald's. Suffice to say, we won't try this place again - its location is all it has going for it, and they clearly care very little about the customer experience.
I visited here with my nine year old son. The food was really good, clean plates always a good sign. The venue is lovely, clean and in a fantastic location. But most of all the meal was made by the fantastic staff who could not have been nicer to my son. Will certainly be back!
Lovely food, professional, attentive staff, fabulous location. High- end feel and presentation for very reasonable prices, very pleasant experience. It added to our day.
Without doubt the best food in town. Excellent value for money too.
Great food and service in one of the best spots in Windsor
Excellent setting and the staff were very helpful. The vegetarian choices were fairly limited (burger or salad for mains) but the food was delicious.
Such a great spot. I booked a table using open table which was good as they were super busy and turning people away. I ordered steak which I never usually order unless I go to a steak resturant as I like mine well done. It came out succulent, full of flavour and was overall delicious. I'm so impressed I'll be heading back in a few weeks.
Fabulous food in a lovely location
Can't wait to go back for another lovely 🌞 day lunch
Fabulous food and service, very attentive staff. Would definitely recommend
At nightfall on the outside tables closest to the river, the dining experience would be greatly enhanced by some simple candle lighting as some tables, ours, the food was difficult to see how the meat was cooked.
Our table was booked for 2:30pm. We were sat on a lovely table outside overlooking the river. However that I where the positives end. Our drinks took 45 minutes to arrive. We had to ask 3 times for a jug of tap water. Many waiting staff would walk past our table look at the empty glasses when we were finished and didn’t attempt to clear them away which meant a copious amount of wasps. Our starters came an hour after we ordered them. We were waiting for our mains to arrive and it wasn’t until one of our party went to ask that the manager came over to offer his apologies. Apparently there had been a communication error with our order (which we didn’t believe as our starters seemed to have gone through without a problem). With it now being 4:15pm and we still hadn’t received our mains and we were still waiting on our second order of drinks, we decided to leave. The service was horrendous and it’s such a shame to be writing this review as the reason we chose this place was because of some of the positive reviews in the past.
We had a lovely lunch at The Boatman on Saturday. Had a great table near the window. Very attentive service and everyone enjoyed their food.
Came especially for the roast, friends came a long way to meet us because we had recommended the sunday roast. None left by 5pm & very little choice remaining on the menu
The food was excellent (Sunday Roast), in fact the best roast dinner I have had in a restaurant - they are usually a disappointment and never as good as home cooked, but this was delicious, plentiful and reasonably priced. The staff were helpful and cheerful. It was a real pleasure to visit. We were late as we had not anticipated just how long the Long Walk actually is and how big Windsor Great Park is, and so we telephoned ahead to let them know we were trying to find our way out of the park. The response was cheerful and accommodating and on arrival we were still given a great table by the window, which I thought we would have missed out on considering we had not arrived on time. A wonderful place for Sunday Lunch - I would thoroughly recommend.
The service was poor.
Staff were so attentive we thought there was a microphone under the table.
The food presentation was very good.
I would be very happy to go again.
Half of menu was not available. Prices were high. First steak delivery was cooked as “well done” when it was ordered as medium rare (to their credit they redid it, but that meant not every one ate at the same time. Sauce was extra cost.
Setting by the Thames is great. Still worth going to for that experience.
Great food, great area, great staff, great views. Would definitely recommend!!
I’ve never experienced a sub-standard meal here. Staff are friendly and helpful, menu has something for everyone - I describe it as better than pub food, mid-range prices for really enjoyable food in an atmospheric environment. I once got a slightly fatty cut of meat (not the chef’s fault) but instantly, my plate was replaced without issue. I highly recommend eating or just drinking here.
Great location, friendly staff. I had salmon which was over cooked and a bit dry as a result but the atmosphere was good and we enjoyed the evening
Need to improve the service. The Burger is excellent!
Very slow service (our orders took more than 1 hour even when the conservatory was almost service), average food quality, lots of wasps by the tables.
The only bad things were
- when we arrived we were told we “need to order quickly because there is a party of 100 coming soon” so we felt rushed. At no point did this party of 100 seem to arrive as there was loads of tables free!!
- our meals were brought to our table and then taken away minutes later, as they were actually for another table not ours
- during each course we had 4 people ask “how is your meal?” I understand that you need feedback on the food but to have four different people ask within ten minutes is ridiculous, we just wanted to be left alone to enjoy our food, which was excellent!
Lovely food and service, would like to sit outside but although booked, no option
Mainly empty tables but we’re given table right next to waiting area for staff. Could have been better placed. Would even suggest this table only used as a last placing, not a first.
Took a seat earlier than booked, got our starters then had to wait 1 1/2 hrs for our mains!! They kept saying it would be there, but when we asked one of the male waiters rudely just snapped “we’re busy” when the food came, one main was wrong so we had to wait for them to cook the right one. Nice place lovely setting & other members of staff were polite & considerate.. we had cancelled another restaurant to go here, not sure we made the right decision🥴 tainted the eve rather. Shame
Felt like the waiters wanted to rush the guests to order and eat quickly and vacate the table. Kept coming to our table and asking everyone to place the orders for the mains, while we wanted to enjoy the drinks- appetisers and chat with friends a bit.
The sea bass was divine but the potatoes were a bit chewy. Good value and good service.
Great service for our 25th Wedding Anniversary lunch. Thank you for the Prosecco. Really nice food and stunning Eton Mess. Lovely location and views.
Had a lovely meal for my mother’s 70th birthday. Food was delicious. My only comment would be although it was a warm day it was rather windy and when the roof opened our food went cold quickly. They should check with the patrons before opening it. Other than that great location, great food.
Beautiful location in the river 😊
Fabulous outside seating. Food was great. Service was good from more senior team members, but then a little slow from more junior staff.
Overall would absolutely recommend The Boatman. Will definitely be back.
An absolutely charming gastro pub on the banks of the River Thames. Food excellent as was the service. Polite helpful very professional serving team made our Sunday lunch very relaxing and enjoyable . Well worth a visit. We will definitely be back.
Really disappointed with our visit! We had booked a table for dinner thinking it was going to be in in the terrace. We were seated outside; it took half an hour for our order to be taken and over an hour for the food to be served. By this point the sun had gone down and everyone was really cold so couldn’t really enjoy the meal. It was a busy Saturday evening, it seems they can’t cope with the restaurant being fully booked. The waiters and waitresses were very apologetic, it’s just a shame as the food is good and it’s lovely pub being so near to the river.
Lovely location and outside setting, but quite noisy and terrible slow service.
After waiting 30mins to be offered something to drink, we complained to the first manager to walk past, who simply proceded to expain that because of where we are sitting his hands are tied and he cant help us. We had to complain 2 more times and eventually cancelled desert after waiting 40 minutes to be served. Servers apologized profusely but there simply was not enough servers on a Saturday night.
The food was decent but not good enough to compensate the service
Great setting ambiance and service. However the food was very average
Nice location right on the river. We sat outside and had a nice table. Food was good and very quick to arrive. Only thing lacking was lack of attentive service. We had to try and attract attention to order more drinks on multiple occasions.
