The Boxing Hare Ratings and Reviews
We booked in to The Masons Arms for a midweek evening meal whilst staying locally and before attending an event the following day. The reviews were all good and we were not disappointed. The menu had a very good selection to suit all requirements. The food was extremely well presented, and locally sourced produce was used where possible. Low on the carbs, attention to optimal nutritional needs was excellent! Highly recommended for a casual evening of good food in a lovely relaxed environment.
Visited the Masons on many occasion and have always been welcomed by Louise and her staff.
This time is was Sunday lunch and unfortunately one of the party of 5 couldn't make it. Louise smiled and said don't worry I will make the table for 4.
Never had a bad meal there and with the loyalty card it must be the best value for money places to eat in the area!
Also has and outstanding fish menu too!
Great pub garden with wonderful open countryside ....what more can you ask for?
You wont be disappointed!!
Food and service excellent as always. The fish dishes are very good no matter what choice you make. The speciality Crème Brulee is to die for, the flavours vary the quality doesn't. Our first choice to dine at when we have a special occasion, this one was our 15th wedding anniversary. Would not hesitate to recommend to others.
One of the best specials menu I have come across.
The beef in the cobbler just fell apart and the mix and flavour of the vegetables complemented each other. If you pushed for a nit picking bit of criticism it would be that the cobbler could have been a little crisper.
My partner had the chicken sizzler which was very flavoursome, the accompanying chips were wonderful.
We will be back to try the beer battered cod and the chips.
We absolutely love The Masons. The setting is beautiful, with views across the valley, comfortable dining rooms, buzzy atmosphere and very friendly and efficient staff.
We will definitely be returning to try more dishes, as the menu is extensive and varied. The fish specials board is great with lots of choice on both starters & mains. There is a good selection for vegetarians too and the deserts are .... to die for!
In summary:- The Masons is a warm, comfortable Pub with a modern twist on beautiful fresh food, and friendly service to pull it all together.
Thank you to everyone.
A lovely meal to celebrate an anniversary. Great choice of interesting fresh fish dishes, plus normal menu. Very tasty & good value. Only minor point - as a gluten free diner they could Lee some gluten free bread in the kitchen to substitute normal bread. Other gluten free variations accommodated very well.
We are regular visitors to the Masons as we only live a few miles away and always receive a warm welcome. The food is outstanding both in presentation and taste and the service is first class. We would recommend the Masons for any occasion, from an intimate dinner for two to a big birthday party.
We've passed The Masons Arms several times on recent visits to the Cotswolds and last week arranged to meet friends there. We were not disappointed. A great range of fish, well cooked and presented, and a tempting selection of desserts all topped off with good coffee. Attentive and friendly service. We'll visit again.
Four of us went for a Saturday lunch, having driven to mid-point 60-odd miles from our respective homes.
Very welcoming and the food quality and choices were excellent. The set meals were reasonably priced but the drinks prices doubled the bill. The service was excellent and
professional. Highly recommended.
Lovely Sunday Lunch . Simple quality ingredients , in good flavour combinations creating
The fish dishes are superb and the fixed price menu is good value .
The portions are generous .
Pub prices for your drinks and reasonable wine list.
The owners are very welcoming and attentive.
All round a nice experience I shall be repeating soon.
Always reliable - we lunch here regularly. The menu is good without being too adventurous and the fish speciality menu is excellent - always in season and well presented.
The ambiance is bright and the service friendly. The restaurant areas are very pleasant, with a room for special occasion dining. The garden offers ample space for outdoor meals and is both child and dog friendly. The car park is huge and access to the building is easy for the disabled.
This was a birthday outing and we were delighted with the Masons Arms. A friendly welcome and pleasant simple decor with excellent service followed by great food. We had the lamb tagine and baked mozzarella and both were superb. Left no room for desert unfortunately as they looked great as well. It wasn't full on a Saturday evening which is a shame because this place is a gem.
We were staying not too far from this pub and had booked for Sunday lunch. The lunch was superb with a great bottle of red wine. We were glad we did not have starters as the main course was large (with side vegetables -which we hardly touched due to the dinner being so big). The garden was lovely and we sat there to have our desserts - my Eton Mess was gorgeous. Could not fault this gem - glad we booked as they were lots of reserved signs on tables.
The staff are very friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming on a winters evening, but on a bright sunny day... the sun will shine in through the huge windows making it the perfect place to sit, relax and enjoy some good food.
The menu is extensive, there are lots of daily fresh fish choices which is so lovely to have when your buried in the middle of Oxfordshire. Everyone in our party managed the full 3 courses and between us we covered a wide range of the menu. And all we can say is if the table spun round we would all have been happy to sample every meal from every course :-)
There was a private party being held in the separate function room on the night we dinned, but you would never have known this. The service was prompt, without being rushed and the food was just amazing.
We would recommend the Masons to everyone who is looking for good fresh food, in comfortable surroundings and with lovely staff.
