The Boxing Hare was very friendly with friendly locals lovely helpful staff who explained certain aspects of the menu, helped my very fussy 84 year old Dad and according to my Dad kept a good pint...... what more can you want the food was hot tasty and plentiful, they served amazing bread cooked n their premises so fresh so tasty "lovely"
The food was excellent but we probably won’t go back unless we hear the service has improved. Our table was booked for 7.15pm and we waited an hour before our order was taken and then another hour before our food arrived. To be fair, some of our party arrived 15 minutes late and we apologised as we know this can cause problems for the staff. However, we would have appreciated an explanation or apology for the delay. By the time our dessert menu came we all felt it was too late to eat one so we didn’t order any. It was a shame as we all agreed the food was excellent.
Food was really good. Front of house was in a bit of a mess on the day unfortunately. Assuming they were just a bit short on staff though.
Very enjoyable meal the twice cooked cheese soufflé was amazing as was the fish soup- it’s hard to impress my husband and he said he would go back just for the soup ! Loved the Chilean merlot very mellow.
Exceptional food...everything we tried over the course of two dinners was memorable.
Finally a place to eat near Banbury that is fit for my parents who are used to fine dinning!
Lovely pub, great atmosphere, delicious food. What’s not to like?
The service was exceptional and there were some interesting items on the menu that tempted us to order something new and different. The quality and presentation of the food was very good and pretty quick considering it was a busy Friday night. It was quite noisy at times due to a party of men on the next table but we would definitely recommend the Boxing Hare and will be going again for a special occasion.
Great food, great service
Very good, nice warm welcome, food was fantastic booked to go again,
Amazing food (best Sunday Lunch in a long while).
Generous portions and lovely and hot.
We can't wait to go back for one of those amazing looking steaks.
It's really lovely to have somewhere local for exceptional food and drink.
Fantastic meal at the Boxing Hare for a 21st birthday family meal. Fabulous welcome from the start, the hostess couldnt do enough for us. Food was amazing, particularly recommend the steaks and the Hooky Fish Chips and mushy peas. We were only visiting the area but would definitely return if we are nearby again. Highly recommend.
The best steak I have ever eaten but comes at a cost.
A delicious meal enjoyed by our party of 6! We ate steak, lamb , fish and burgers, all of which were excellent and served piping hot. The staff were friendly and obliging.
The Boxing Hare’s hosts are very welcoming and accommodating. A truly exceptional experience. Thank you.
Wonderful Sunday roast and lovely staff! Will return!
Food was excellent but we were let down with horrendously poor service.
Last time I visited was some years ago. So with my daughters birthday and family decided to return.
This place has the WOW factor. The choice is many and the cuisine is to die for. You must try the burgers. Just the best. The service is brilliant. Well done to all, and those behind the scenes. We found our new eating place , see you soon.
a very pleasant lunch time with friend s..very tasty food..will be back again very soon
Had an excellent birthday lunch at the 'Boxing Hare' last Saturday: the service was good, food delicious. We would certainly recommend and hope to go again soon!
Our first visit since it was changed from Masons Arms - not much changed decor wise but food a marked improvement - not a radical menu but enjoyed the rabbit very much. Staff were very pleasant too - will definitely make another visit soon
Lovely lively pub. Landlady very good, staff polite. Food very good. Felt a bit hemmed in around our table. Took a few attempts to attract staff attention when needing more drinks. Will go again.
Nice service but could be more attentive. Waited for our table without being told when it was ready.... it had in fact been ready for half an hour. I've eaten every place from a Marrakech street kitchen to Michelin Stars in Paris to outlandish cuisine in LA... but always - you tell the customer when the table is ready.
Food - not bad. Couple nice elements - a lovely Halibut and creative open lasagne. Nice starter in Filo parcels but a rather lacklustre crab mayonnaise. With this sort of place id be looking for a crab leg cooked nicely and served more attractively ...
Decent wine - had a nice white Cuvée Jean-Paul Blanc, which was recommended to us. I thought it'd be a rather bland lemon affair but actually was not a bad substitute for a Pouilly Fume.
I'd go again - but as a place that's promoting itself as fine dining, the service and food need to come up one notch. Not to say they are bad - far from it - but my expectations would be just that touch "better". A good start with the new owners.
Fantastic food all homemade. Wonderful Sunday lunch...the ‘best’ roast potatoes I’ve ever had. The desserts are divine.
This I see the second time we have visited the Boxing hare it is fantastic
Highly recommended for beautiful food, lovely venue and exceptional service. Stacey couldn't do enough for us and was so kind and considerate with our children. We will come back again and again!
The waitresses were very polite and good at there job, food served with a smile and tasty
We booked on a whim to try the place out, what a find. Welcoming, friendly hosts and staff. Warm and comfortable atmosphere, great food and good Guinness as my husband will vouch for. Will definitely be going again.
Thank you for a lovely evening.
A very enjoyable dinner. Very welcoming and friendly service. The soufflé and steak were quite excellent, the halibut was a little over cooked (hence 4 stars) but the overall dish was delicious. Wine was excellent and desserts lovely. We have already booked to return
This would have been a 5 star but for the wait for the children, the youngest was so tired that she fell asleep on her mum's lap. Too long for children . Waited a long time for orders to be taken & at everything that was needed .
We occasionally ate at The Mason's Arms and wanted to try The Boxing Hare as somewhere to dine with friends. We booked lunch for 12:30 and had a pleasant greeting when we arrived. We had thought to go for the set menu, but on seeing the extensive a la carte menu, we settled for that. My wife enjoyed the cod, which was really well cooked and delicious. I had the pave of beef, which was sooo tasty and cooked to perfection.
While we were waiting for our main courses we enjoyed some olives and cold meats. These were both nicely presented and some home baked warm bread was offered at no extra charge.
The service during our stay was pleasant and efficient at all times. We will certainly be returning. The Boxing Hare proved a great experience.
Excellent food from a very extensive and imaginative menu. Excellent service from Emma who worked very hard and made sure all went smoothly. We took friends who were also very impressed and we all agreed we would return.
First time at the boxing hare. Have and will recommend to others. Excellent food and service. Staff very good. Top marks.
Lovely Sunday lunch with excellent locally sourced ingredients. Very good beef and delicious potatoes and excellent cauliflower cheese. We intend to return.
Rather disappointing after the early rave reviews of this newly reopened gastro pub. The food served to the others in our party was good, but my bavette steak was very tough. On the plus side the restaurant did not charge for it. Service was very slow and they did not have enough waiting staff for a very busy Saturday night. We would all give it another try, but at lunchtime.
We were given a warm welcome and the service was efficient and friendly throughout. The food was excellent.
Puddings were outstanding. Fish & Chips excellent, Burger disappointing. Set menu had no alternatives. We felt that families with children would find it unsuitable, which given its position on a main road, might be a disadvantage. It was clear that they were seeking a more upmarket feel.
Very welcoming into comfortable surroundings. Attentive staff. Interesting menu. Food we had was excellent and locally sourced where possible. Will definitely be returning as we live locally and will recommend to friends.
A very enjoyable place to be after so many years of just an average pub.the transformation is wonderful.
Stacey is a wonderful host and visits your table often to ensure all is well.
The food is absolutely excellant with an extensive offering.
My only offer of critiscism is the waiting staff are very slow and seem a little vague, otherwise, most enjoyable and will keep coming back.....
Beautiful food and excellent service. Nicely spaced dining area.
