The Brasserie at Sopwell House
Food was good but service was very slow. Tables are quite close together and we were all seated in the same area rather than being spread out. Would give them another try
Nice venue with a good selection of food for a three course lunch.
Very good food and nice ambience. Really enjoyed our special celebration. Service was good and attentive. Would recommend Sopwell House
Great service and the value for food in lovely surroundings is very reasonable.
Buffet offered good choice for all 3 courses. Service was welcoming and efficient. Nice touch when a “Happy Anniversary” plate with a little cake came out of the blue. Good value.
We had a lovely meal at the Brasserie at Sopwell. The food was delicious and loved the open plan kitchen. The service was very good too. Would definitely recommend visiting.
Good selection on menu; Friendly good-humoured waiting staff; Nice to be able to see into kitchen area; would recommend a table near the windows rather than centre of restaurant
Visited on a Sunday for the buffet and Sunday Roast. Buffet offered was very minimal compared to other establishments I have been to. Only fish and a very small selection of ham and salami. No chicken. Salad dishes quite basic and rather bland. The roast disappointing too with only red meat beef or lamb. The roast potatoes were cooked with Thyme which I dislike so it would have been nice to have some plain roasties on offer! Veg was a small basic mixed veg. Desserts were the usual fruit salad, variety of little pots of chocolate mousse, tiramisu etc but no hot desserts. It was a disappointing experience and I expected better from the Sopwell. Staff were quite robotic, unfriendly and lacking any personality. But hearing a kitchen staff member in the open plan kitchen starting to 'discuss' 'the English people' (until he was hushed up) is another reason why I won't be returning.
Decided to try the Brasserie as an anniversary celebration having married at Sopwell 14 years ago. We've been to the main restaurant several times over the years and this time decided to try the Brasserie.
Was very pleasant, good atmosphere, really good food, good service. A lovely touch at the end of the meal bringing out a desert with Happy Anniversary written on the plate. Bonus points for that!
A very nice evening thank you.
Food was incredible - highly recommend the corn fed chicken fish, absolutely delicious. The staff were polite and the service was great. We were staying in the hotel also and were a unhappy with the lack of cleanliness in the room but dinner at the Brasserie definitely made up for what the rest of the hotel lacked.
Had a great time , good food and beautiful surroundings! Service was good too.
Good place to dine
Father’s Day family meal , nothing going on no roast choice , service was good menu poor
Excellent food. Lovely setting. Nice staff. Loved the buffet style eating.
Always enjoy coming to Sopwell either for lunch, afternoon tea or dinner. Value for money great food and staff always welcoming and professional.
I’ve been to the Brasserie at least half a dozen times as part of a Spa break or for family celebrations but it would certainly not be my first choice. Perhaps this is because as a Veggie there’s only one main course at lunchtime. The starter table is very good and the mini desserts delicious but less choice for late lunch as they’re not replaced. Service was sparse, perhaps as it was a Bank Holiday and we had to remind that we were waiting for drinks with the main meal and empty plates waited on the table to be cleared between courses. My veggie paella was tepid and stodgy but the other guests enjoyed their roast beef dinner.
Very lacklustre food. Poor choice for main courses. Expensive for very average food but the hotel was nice.
Efficient attentive staff. Price in accordance with general pricing for this style of food. We were on first meal of honeymoon after getting married 2 days before going to airport.
Noisy group of men in the room (only laughing raucously and talking loud) spoilt it for us as the acoustics of the room made it impossible to speak. Not a lot the staff could do about them as they were customers too but had we been sat nearer we'd have had to leave but on this day the other restaurant was closed.
Overall, very disappointed with the service, we waited nearly 1.5 hours for the main course, the waitress who took our initial order never came back to our table, we had 4 different wait staff. There was another waiter cleaning a table next to us, when I asked him to find out how long our food would be, he advised we're not his table and walked off!!!
The manager, Emilio, was nice and took our concerns on board (he was new but had the right attitude).
When looking around it wasn't just us with the bad service or waiting for food.
The food was nice when it eventually came.
When we went to pay for the meal, there were 4 drinks we didn't order (they were from the bar in error) and a main course that was removed. So check your bill before you pay. They were removed without question.
I won't be coming back here in a hurry.
The chef has redeemed himself since our last visit: the smoked salmon was excellent quality, the range and quality of the hors d'oeuvres were highly enjoyable and the gigot d'agneau was good quality meat and cooked to perfection.
What a lovely place for lunch. Good value for money such lovely food plenty of it.
The staff were very helpful and friendly too really nice to sit outside too after lunch for coffee.
Another relaxed and enjoyable dining experience at Sopwell House. Highly recommended.
Based on my latest experience I would no longer recommend the Brasserie. The place was like the morgue, dead quiet and sinister. The buffet hors d'oeuvres was mean and disappointing. The hot food was pretty unappetizing and the lamb in particular was inedible: bland and chewy. Awful experience! But then the usual chef was not there(?).
Wonderful lunch at the Brasserie - top class food in buffet style, absolutely delicious! It was extremely quiet when we went, which was brilliant - when it’s busier, it can be quite noisy and awkward to manoeuvre around the restaurant but it’s still worth a visit. Staff so wonderful and polite as well, really looked after us. Would definitely recommend.
We stayed with Sopwell house and we had our dinner at the Brasserie. The food was lovely!
My friend and I celebrated our birthdays at a lunch at the Brasserie. The dress code was smart casual. We made an effort to adhere to this. When we got there more than half the clientele were in their Spa robes. For this reason I will never go back. Unless I can come in my dressing gown!
The Sunday lunch was poor, but the service was good. The decor and ambiance were excellent. The staff, and especially the Head Waiter charming. The Sunday lunch was not up to the standard expected for the price paid. The Head Waiter was aware of my disatisfaction and handled my feed back in a very sensible manner.
The evening dinner, where I had a la carte and paid extra was far better. The service was again good. The quality of the food presentation was better than the Sunday lunch.
The breakfast service was adequate. It was necessary to request coffee and was not offered freely until requested, and the same was true of butter, a knife and other items. Whilst the buffet was satisfactory , the same was uninspiring, and in particular the danish pastries were not good. The fried eggs were swimming in oil. The orange segments were "fizzing" and when I advised the waitress she had the good sense to remove them immediately. There are plenty of staff and therefore the service could have been a little more observant.
In conclusion the decor and the ambiance were excellent but the Brasserie food needs improvement.
Nice restaurant lovely food relaxing atmosphere made for a good evening to celebrate a retirement. Downside was the wobbly table which was constantly tipping one way or the other
Food was very good and tasty. Desserts were delicious. Would have liked a bit more selection.
Not as much choice as we thought. Cheeseboard very poor. Coffee very poor.
Attentive staff, offering to help me as I was getting my disabled husband’s lunch as well as my own. I asked if there was cream with the fruit salad, and was offered ice cream if we would like it. This was made especially for my husband who is an ice cream addict!!
Enjoyed a waitress called ANA (who I believe came from Romania) who took time to talk to us towards the end of her shift, which rounded off our 58th Wedding Anniversary.
The meal was to celebrate my wife's birthday, and the hotel and restaurant staff were brilliant in keeping everything a secret as requested.
Good choice of lovely food, cheerful, attentive staff, overall a great experience!
Hurray and well done to the Chef! The buffet this last Sunday was outstanding quality and value. Both the sirloin and the lamb were cooked to (continental) perfection, very rare and juicy and very tender too. Thank you Chef for an extremely enjoyable experience!
Great variety of foods, fresh and tasty. Really enjoyed it andcwill definitely be going back.
Food is great but service is always so slow and you have to ask multiple times for everything.
very enjoyable , hope to be back soon. Staff excellent
Lovely restaurant, great service and food was very good!
Great evening celebrating our daughter’s 21st Birthday. Wonderful evening had by all
Food was amazing , had a bit of a language barrier with some staff as their English was not that good. They made a big effort as it was my other half’s birthday.
