Always a friendly welcome and service in one of NE Essex’s best venues. Excellent value and reassuringly Covid-safe.
The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Plus the presentation was beautiful. I will definitely eat here again.
Amazing food, staff very polite will definitely be back.
The Wivenhoe House Hotel is a hidden gem. The menu may be limited but the quality is first rate. The staff are attentive and helpful. The complimentary starters are a nice touch. It is great value fr money. Highly Recommended.
The service was very good, warm, welcoming and attentive.
This did make up for the food which sadly was not particularly to the level of personal expectation. The house the brasserie is set in is lovely so you enter the building with high expectations.
My husband and I ate from the festive menu. The starters were very small, about three mouthfuls.
The mains were on the small side too, particularly the pork cutlet my husband had. This was a shame as the actual presentation was lovely.
It was the vegetables that let the mains down as they were simply undercooked for my taste. I understand it was opening night after lockdown two, but I couldn’t get my knife through the sprouts or parsnips. The roast potatoes needed to have more ‘roast’ to them they tasted nice but had no crispy outsides. The lemon tart tasted like a baked egg custard which was disappointing as it was presented attractively.
The blank dining table (due to Covid) just did not make me feel special. Call me old fashioned but I like to sit at a dressed table with a cloth, cutlery, a napkin (not paper) and glasses. I understand this now can’t be due to Covid rules but it does take the magic out of eating out.
The staff though, did really try hard and were very welcoming, particularly the manager. If the food could match the service this restaurant would be a regular haunt for me and no doubt people would be hard-pushed to get a table.
So please, if you read this management, have a word with the chef, slightly larger starter portions, cook the veggies a bit longer and maybe invest in disposable table cloths just so it doesn’t feel like a kitchen table. Keep the service as it is and then you’ve nailed it!
Reasonable selection, even some vegan options. The food is very good quality and there is a good selection of wines. This is not fine dining but the utilisation of Uni students in the Brasserie is a very good idea. The value is very good.
Absolutely excellent. Despite Covid restrictions they managed to make us feel very special for our anniversary. One of the best roasts I have ever had. Huge portions and absolutely delicious.
Beautiful place in lovely surroundings. Food was excellent & service was second to none. Would certainly recommend and will definitely return. Only downfall and this is nothing against the Hotel, just unfortunately in these strange times we are faced with there was not a lot of ambience.
Fantastic restaurant experience, the attention to detail from the waiter was incredibly impressive.
The food was excellent value for money and the restaurant is well laid out to ensure easy social distancing. Will certainly be back soon!
Outstanding service and value for money will definitely be returning in the near future
Very enjoyable meal. My wife and I had £25 menu which was great value 3 courses plus bread and olives, tea and coffee. We enjoyed it all. Our 7 year old had nice fish and chips. Great service and not too busy on a Monday evening. We would come here again.
Fabulous Food Service Ambience and Value for Money, Highly recommend!
We were staying the weekend at the hotel so decided to eat in on the Saturday night having the Brasserie meal at £25 per person. The whole experience was joyful - the staff were attentive, friendly and efficient, each course was delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxed and informal. Couldn't recommend it highly enough - a lovely evening.
Good food, excellent value. Good Covid precautions.
Great service, and food was delicious.😊Lovely Hotel..
Lovely food great polite friendly staff
Constantly checking on us
Lovely food, good service but the restaurant lacks ambience. It reminds me of a work canteen.
For such a large place the brasserie should be a much posher restaurant.
I would come again though.
Lovely food and great service, would highly recommend! Only thing I would change is the chairs are very uncomfortable but apart from that it was a perfect evening.
Good meal and options...starters, dessert and a main of salmon were excellent, burger a littler overcooked. Lack of petit four with the coffee as advertised but we were full so didn't mind!
I have been here many times and it’s one of my favourite places to go. Excellent service and delicious food.
We had a lovely evening at Wivenhoe House Brasserie the food as always was good and the service as always of a very high standard.
Great food and service.
An enjoyable lunch. A little on the chilly side with a change in the weather, a breezy draught from somewhere.
Exceptional as always! Great place, great staff, great food. Very easy for a wheelchair user and always immaculate.
Excellent Gluten free fish and chips
Just a bit overpriced
Very nice and very COVID aware which was really good.
We always have a lovely time and food at Wivenhoe house. Thank you
Very good service and the food was first class. Limited menu because of Covid, but fantastic value. Very nice evening out!
Wonderful afternoon tea! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Very efficient service, lovely relaxed atmosphere and fabulous food.
Had a very enjoyable evening as always :)
Looking forward to being back there very soon!
Sat outside, felt very safe as tables had canopies Either side
Great service, staff really helpful and polite
Really enjoyed our lunch and prosecco
I was disappointed when we arrived as I booked this breakfast for our 30th wedding anniversary, asked for to glasses of Prosecco with breakfast. When we arrived no tables laid up, it all seemed we were just a walk in or a after fault Not what I expected for an anniversary breakfast
We spent an enjoyable Sunday afternoon at The Brasserie at Wivenhoe House Hotel. The food, service and ambience were very good and the bill proved to be very reasonable. Will certainly go again.
Excellent all round. All ready booked to go back. We had a lovely time
Fantastic service friendly attentive staff great food and lovely terrace. Endless supply of Bottomless Prosecco great value for money Definitely will going back
Lovely restaurant, food was good and the set lunch menu was excellent value. Staff were very friendly and attentive, especially Lucy.
Would recommend and hope to return in the near future.
Lovely setting, good choice on the lunchtime menus. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food and the service was extremely professional, particularly under the current restrictions. Would definitely go again
Not a good choice on the menu. My main meal was tiny.
Lovely staff, very good social distancing so felt very comfortable
Not rushed during meal or stay at restaurant
