Pub
The Bricklayers Arms is a delightful lakeside public house, comprising three terraced cottages in a charming Kent village. The pub is situated at the end of the picturesque Darent Valley Walk. The sign represents Sir Winston Churchill, an expert bricklayer and whose home was at nearby Chartwell.
We pride ourselves on getting involved with the local community and providing a warm and friendly welcome to our visitors. We serve Harvey's Best Bitter straight from the barrel, a fantastic range of wine and beautifully home cooked British pub food. Located opposite the Chipstead Sailing Lake, we are perfectly positioned for a warm bowl of soup after a walk, a summer cider on the green, or a comforting meal in front of our real, open log fire.

We were made to feel welcome & safe during these difficult times. The owner had gone the extra mile to met government guidelines. The service & food was excellent. We shall come again.

Really missed not having roast beef on the menu, had been looking forward to it, although the roast pork was tasty.

This is a "proper" pub. No pretensions in the decor, furnishings etc or food. Just generous, hot, well cooked lunches, served in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Don't expect haute cuisine or 20 different types of craft anything, but they have a good range of well-kept beers. Not too keen on the marquee-type covering to the front, but that's a response to Covid, so I guess it will come down when we get through the crisis.

It was very good. Not so keen on my choice this time but not the fault of the pub. I should have chosen something different. We always enjoy our time there though.

I have eaten here several times and always enjoy browsing the changing choices on the daily menu. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food tasty - vegetables, in particular, are well cooked. Covid precautions are in place and easy to follow.

Best mussels I have tasted this side of the Channel. The night we went was a mussel themed night with mussels cooked in a variety of six ways. We chose the classic Moules Mariniere which came with fries and freshly baked bread, washed down with a reasonably priced bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and followed by a sharing cheeseboard.
All for under £60. What's not to like?

The Bricklayers always great! But we did make a request for bday candle on the dessert which I spoke with Jess and she will organise but when we ordered dessert there is no candle, a bit dissapointed really... especially when you let them know in advance.

As good as always with the added advantage of being very very organised with regards the current virus situation. By far the safest pub I have been to in recent months. Hats off the staff. Thanks

Yummy Sunday lunch - first time inside since re-opening, as it’s a bit chilly now for eating outside. Impressed by the staff and the care to ensure everyone was seated and served safely

Staff were very friendly....in what at the moment is a strange time. Food excellent, dropped one star for ambiance only because of the situation at the moment, I'm sure in normal times that would be five stars. Setting is lovely just across the road from a lake. Would definitely go back and recommend.

Great food and great service. The home made specials are special. We had the fish pie and minced beef short crust pie. A bit salty but still good.
The service was superb. Staff could not do enough for us and we’re flexible with the accomplishments.
COVID 19 safety measures were strictly observed. I will be back.

There were plenty of staff. I ordered a beer and the Waitrose forgot and served others at the table. The manager failed to give me a credit card receipt and just walked off

Nice sunny day, we sat outside on the village green, having booked a 2.30 pm lunch session. Helpful staff were quick with menus, then into the bar to order & pay, and then a short wait before the food arrived Food was well up to their usual standard.

A bit disappointed in the roast pork - the gravy tasted like Bisto or similar, rather than home made and the big square of stuffing didn't taste homemade either.

Two slender slices of pork only. Thought that was a bit mean.

Love this pub usually - have had a couple of great meals here, but maybe Sunday roast is not the best option.

Sitting outside is, under present circumstances, safest but it is so pleasant to be able to do that alongside the lake and in a pleasant village. Have usually eaten outside but also inside on another occasion during COVID and all very carefully managed.
