The Bugle Horn
Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.
The Bugle Horn started life as a farmhouse, but during the early 1800s it was used as a wine store for Hartwell House, whilst Louis XVIII of France lived there in exile. Soon after we became known as the Plough, our current name comes from the fossils of the same name that can be seen in The Bugle Horn's walls.
Many visitors to nearby Aylesbury like to stop off at The Bugle Horn for its warm, cosy interiors and its large gardens. Our name comes from the distinctive fossils incorporated in the pub walls.
We had a lovely roast dinner, staff were very nice and helpful.
My pub, friendly and good service. Partner was violently ill after eating there. She hadn’t eaten all evening so suggests something she ate may
exceeded my expectations and as well as the food and service excellent the nice thing was the layout of the rooms to eat in because it wasn't one large room the noise level was fine which is a lot to be said these days
Lovely meal with my family, food was excellent and great service
Considering the restaurant was very quiet it took a long time for the food to come. However, it was a good overall experience and the staff were very friendly
Service ok although always takes an age to get served at the bar.
Food presentation good but steaks way over cooked and fatty. Prawns rubbery. Crisp salad. Potatoes tired.
We booked the table for mothers day through Open table but when we contacted the to ensure the table was booked they said they had not received the Opentable booking, despite us receiving a confirmation booking from Opentable and had no places available! Clearly we were very unhappy and disappointed as we had relative coming from a great distance to meet for Mother Day and we had to find somewhere else to go at short notice. This has now happened twice at the same restaurant.
Just about ok, but as we have plenty of nicer places to choose from I don’t expect we will return soon. Table not wiped, too few staff so they were very busy and tired (but they did their best). Food disappointing. Have heard several people say the same. A pity, as it was much improved following the recent revamp, but it’s now back as it was.
Food was good, staffs nice and friendly. Overall rating is only ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for not being clear. I made reservation online and received email of booking confirmation. I missed their phone call to confirmed my booking, so they did not reserved table for us. I don’t understand the purpose of online booking if it has to be confirmed by phone call.
The fixed price lunch menu had a good selection and the food was delicious. There is a good choice of beers. The service was excellent. The staff were just the right amount of attentive and friendly. We will certainly go again.
Food was very nice and all clearly cooked from ingredients on the premises. Slightly disappointed that three items from the menu were not available as they had run out (this was at 7.00pm on Saturday evening, I would understand if this happened later on in the evening). We found that the raspberries for one of the deserts were also unavailable. Another niggle is that bitter shandy is charged at the same price as a full pint. When asked if this was correct the barmaid told us that this is because lemonade costs the same as bitter. (Not sure if that is strictly true).
Having said that service overall was good and the food was very good and would recommend a visit.
A wonderful Sunday roast in a very welcoming and friendly environment. Highly recommended. The service was excellent.
No record of our booking the dough sticks were unavailable due to a kitchen fire which my niece had been looking forward to since I told her we were going. Everything tasted of oil
Visit number 2 and by far better than the 1st, our first encounter was of an evening and they didn't seem to cope well with being so busy
2nd visit was daytime bank holiday Monday, service was much better and food great
The restaurant is in a convenient location with good parking
Excellent food, service and ambience. Highly recommended.
As regular Sunday walkers all over Beds, Bucks and Herts, we always prebook at local pub to finish up at. This was a very satisfactory standard of food and hospitality. Friendly staff and good service.
