Food quality, service and venue was pretty good but food is overpriced in my opinion. I chose belly pork and scallops, at a price of £19, and the portion size of the belly pork was laughable and there were only 2 scallops (cut in half to make 4 pieces).
It took a long time for our food to arrive because the pub were very busy and they had very few serving staff. The food was good and I enjoyed the meal.
A misable greeting by a young lady, couldn’t crack a smile if she tried, we were put next the stairs people up and down to their rooms windy and draughty place.
Weren’t impressed at all we won’t be back and will inform our friends in the Motorhome club not to bother.
They didn’t receive our booking . & had no tables available in the restaurant. We had to use the bar area .
Great food but utterly awful service had to ask twice for anything and waited ages for drinks, gravy, tea and coffee very poor when it wasn’t that busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff
Nice old pub restaurant with great food
Really nice atmosphere good service food nice however expensive.
The lack of a smile and a cheery welcome should have made us think twice. Although the service proved to be efficient there were a number of things which left us disappointed: one of the waitresses dropped two knives on my fiancee' s leg; neither our waitress nor the lady in charge asked us whether we were enjoying our meal and then there was the food.
A main course salad was ordered which was the smallest we have ever seen , whilst my belly pork had not been cooked through adequately, so that a wedge of undercooked fat was inedible. Leaving this on my plate didn't even prompt the waitress to ask me whether there was a problem with the food.
We left feeling disappointed, angry that we had been treated not as customers who had been looked after, but as purely as sources of income. The evening was very poor, poorer than our recent evening at a chain restaurant. We will sadly not be returning!
Excellent food and wine. Recently refurbished with a good ambiance. We visited mid week for a birthday meal around 6.30pm, got somewhat busy as the evening progressed.
We drove from inner London on a recommendation for the Bulls Head and we were not disappointed!
A lovely, friendly atmosphere and our last minute request was accommodated without fuss.
The quality of the ingredients was really good and at a fair price
Everything was perfect, what more can I say. The menu is varied and inspirational.
Waitress was lovely but we waited ages for our drinks then subsequently our food.
My fish cakes were watery and tasteless
Nice and relaxed, great food, great service and most importantly spotless.
Sat in the older part of the building by the stairs to the rooms, it was drafty and cold
We had Sunday lunch food was fair and good value.
Nice place, food was very good and the service was quick without feeling rushed. I read that open table bookings were unreliable & they are right. After reading I called & spoke to the restaurant, they didn’t have my booking & were full but the lady I spoke to was very helpful & found a place for us.
Great food, love this place. Shame Opentable didn’t inform them of our reservation
I hadn’t visited for s cereal years, it used to be a regular place for me. Assumed in a Friday night it would be packed but it was almost empty - not a good sign. Pub is lovely but other than that service and food unremarkable, in fact all totally average except the price, which is over inflated.
What a complete let down. Given a table that was in a corridor, by the old front door and adjacent to the check-in desk. Manager too busy checking-in guests to deal with our complaint. Waste of an evening.
I booked our reservation using Open Table. Very disappointed to hear from the Bulls Head that they could not honour the booking! They could not offer any other advice...as a visitor to the village I found the whole experience very poor indeed. I do not recommend using this combination.
This was our second visit to the Bulls Head, both times we were in Birmingham to visit exhibitions at the Excel Centre and on this occasion specifially chose to stay in this area so we could visit the Bulls Head on Friday night. The food and wine were definitely as we remembered and didn't disappoint! There was a great choice on the main menu and also a good selection of daily specials as well. However, on this occasion we were disappointed with the level of service we experienced. Both the restaurant and bar were very busy but both areas appeared to be under staffed for a Friday night. We had to chase drinks that we ordered on a couple of occasions, we waited quite a long time for our order to be taken and our waiter appearted to be rushed and under pressure with the number of people he needed to serve.
Saying that, the standard and quality of the food made up for it and we would definitely visityagain!
Although we enjoyed our meal, the evening was ruined because having reserved a table online and having a confirming email. On arriving we were told no such booking existed, and it was our fault. We had also tried unsuccessfully to telephone several times.
Clearly your booking system is unfit for purpose.
We had rib eyed steaks medium rare which had gristle in also fries were cold ... I’ve never chewed on steak for that long
Excellent service and great food in a friendly environment
The food was so-so. Fish finger sandwich was tasteless, the bread was dry and the salad, apart from small pieces of tomato and cucumber on top, seemed mostly cabbage. A poor effort.
Tables for 2 are tiny. I asked for a larger table and was told none available. 3 larger tables remained empty the whole time we were there.
As we were leaving they cleared a large table so that another party of 2 could sit at a table previously set for 5 or 6 people.
Previously the food has been very good but the main course (pie) was lukewarm in the centre.
Disappointed with our meal.
The starter of olives and bread, the olives weren't pitted so although it looked appetising it's a cheap cop out.
Waited a long time for our main course probably due to the restaurant being full and it looked like a shortage of staff, when our meals arrived it was obvious they had been sitting under hot lights for a while, sauces dried and pastry hard. The chips were disgusting, fried more than once. They were so bad the waitress apologised, but she did bring some acceptable ones very quickly.
A place I've frequented many times, however last few visits have been disappointing. Venue is nice, hence I go there but the food is poor. ( I don't like burnt potatoes.) and the value for money and menu choice aspects leave something to be desired. I'd left it a while since my last visit thinking things would have improved....... it will be a while before I go back for a meal at least. Somethings changed there in the last year, not for the better, the menu and food need another rethink.
Lovely place with good food, though service was a little patchy.
The food was very nice once served hot. We had a starter and a main returned because they were barely warm. The service I think was good but was our food cold because it had been standing waiting to be brought to our table?
The staff were very apologetic and even asked if I wanted my main meal taking away when my wife's meal was recorded. This I accepted as we came out to eat together unfortunately it was then a bit dry on it's return.
Our booking through open table hadn't been received by the restaurant but they were still able to accommodate us even with a pushchair on a busy Saturday night. This was our second visit and food was just as amazing as the first time, always worth the drive. Highly recommend.
