The Butchers Arms
Our 16th century Public House is situated on Lime Street in the parish of Eldersfield near Gloucester.
The Butchers Arms is first and foremost a rural pub, where the bar is the hub of life, with low ceilings, wooden floors, roaring fires and real ale served straight from the cask.
The food is British and we source only the finest ingredients from local suppliers. The menu constantly changes according to what is in season.
Please note that as it is a small pub and we are unable to cater for children under the age of 10.
Lovely location, friendly and efficient service, great food using locally sourced produce. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
We love eating at the Butchers Arms. A lovely place to visit for a special occasion. The food is consistently to a very high standard, absolutely delicious, well thought through and beautifully presented. The service, wine list and real ale is excellent too. We’re very fortunate to have such a special place within our neighbourhood and are already looking forward to our next visit!
Excellent, worth the trip. The new Owners have followed the previous owners. The only comment was the draught from the front door.Would have appreciated being in the other room.Look forward to our next visit.
Lovely meal, excellent friendly welcoming service, my husbands 85th birthday and we had Happy Birthday all over the table plus a candle in the dessert!! Thank you.
Just a fabulous experience. Staff were very welcoming; made us feel that nothing would be too much trouble. Food was great as was the beer. Not a massive selection of wine available but the house wine was fine for both white and red. I particularly love the atmosphere of a country pub but with fine dining. I wish it was my local. Highly recommended.
We ate at The Butcher’s Arms last week - great service and wonderful food in lovely, relaxed surroundings, couldn’t ask for anything more. Would thoroughly recommend.
Nice ambience staff always friendly and helpful
Food nearly always excellent although this time
Had the duck as main a bit challenging to cut but
Was OK once sliced - might have been a blunt knife
Rest of meal very good
Would recommend always
Although food, service and general ambience were very good unfortunately would not recommend as far too expensive for the quality and quantity of food. It was my birthday and we did not even receive a birthday drink, merely a candle stuck in my pudding!
My husband was celebrating his birthday and so wanted a nice pub meal, as opposed to the all too familiar ‘cooked from frozen’ ping chef type meals!
The Butchers Arms did not disappoint, it excelled in every way. The food presentation and quality was certainly very worthy of the Michelin star accreditation, as was the excellent attentive service provided by the two lovely ladies looking after the customers!
Although there was only one cask ale on sale, the Wyve Valley Golden Ale did not disappoint, as it was a super light and refreshing accompaniment to the very yummy food!
The pub ambience was lovely. Two separate dining areas heated by very welcoming wood burners. Nice and snug!
All in all, a very pleasant lunchtime experience. Yes, I would return there and also recommend it to my friends. Keep up the excellent work ladies!
Nice place, good food, pleasant staff. What's not to like?
Our local go to choice for Sunday Lunch-when we can get a table!
The food is outstanding, particularly the venison dish.
The salted caramel ice cream that accompanied the chocolate ganache was to die for.
What a delightful find especially since they have only been open about 15 months. The quality of the meal was excellent - my only observation that it was very slightly on the pricey side for a atmospheric village pub ambience. This is NOT a reflection on the quality of the food or service, rather an observation of expectation of white tablecloth silver service at this price range. They also have a very neat touch of a self catering cottage immediately adjacent which you can arrange to use so that you don't have to arrange to drive home after imbibing in an excellent meal with the appropriate wines!
Best food I have eaten in a very long time. Will definatly be going again and this time staying longer to enjoy the place fully.
Lovely food in a proper, rustic country pub. Wood burning stoves in each room. Locals chatting round the bar in the centre of the pub added life. Actually managed to produce a dairy-free dessert that was not fruit salad or sorbet! Much appreciated. A little pricey but good value for what it is.
A great fine darling pub with wonderful staff. Overall a great dining experience
Loved every minute of the night, great service and amazing food, we will be going back.
We were given a voucher and decided to use it for a Sunday lunch for our first visit. What a delightful place this is, set in the countryside but easily accessible, and close to the borders of three counties. This is a bistro pub with fine dining. The lunchtime menu was well thought out, all the dishes sounded tempting and the food we chose was beautifully cooked using fresh seasonal ingredients. The small area in front of the bar was busy with lunchtime drinkers so the small restaurant on the right is probably better if you prefer a quieter area to eat. We were given a table in the bar, a little noisy at times but the wood burner kept us toasty on a chilly day. An excellent meal and will definitely go back again!
Starters main and pud were all outstanding. I had the fillet of beef as did my niece and we both loved it. The cep puree was a particular highlight. If that is the usual standard fayre then they should have that star back in no time.
Great, low key, atmosphere in such an intimate place and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Not as polished as some might expect but it hit exactly the right note for a pub. Excellent to see a few locals sat at the bar having a Friday night pint. Excellent vfm given the standard of food and wine. Spot on and will be back soon.
Fantastic lunchtime value and great quality. We will be back
Relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic service and amazing food.
Excellent food in a lovely pub and very good value. Smaller than I expected it but nice to see they don't cram people in. A lovely meal and we'll certainly be back. Thanks!
We visited the Butchers Arms for my husband’s birthday on 18/01. The pub is very warm and welcoming with a rustic feel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and couldn’t do more to make us feel welcome.
The food is excellent and seasonally and locally sourced. My male guests tell me the beer was fantastic too. Very successful visit and would return again
We were given a very warm welcome, greeted with smiles. They were friendly and made us feel special. The food was outstanding, some of the best I have had, ever. I have told everybody I have met since what a fabulous place it is for a special meal.
There were only two slightly negative points - the woodburner was not functioning properly as they were burning slightly green wood. There was a slight chill in the air, increased every time the front door opened. My seat was not very comfortable, with a hard rim and no central padding.
I will be back at the first opportunity. It was outstandingly good!
Our whole experience of the Butchers Arms was fantastic from start to finish. The food, service and setting were all perfect.
Just what we wanted, good food, good wine all in a beautiful setting with excellent service
the food quality was very good and cooked beautifully but the menu is quite short, quite expensive and not adventurous ( as iy used to be under the previous owners )
Upon our arrival, we were given a table next to a real fire, which was very welcome considering the foul weather outside at the time.
The food was excellent, but not cheap. The menu options were a bit limited (4 mains), so fussier members of your party might struggle to find something to their liking.
We very much enjoyed the dishes we chose, including the cheese and coffee at the end of the meal. We're sure to return in the future.
Extremely welcoming and cosy, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The food was delightful from beginning of the starter to the end of the desert. Can't wait to go back.
We love eating at the Butchers Arms although we reserve this for very special occasions. It is friendly, with understated decor which feels both warm and homely. The food is exceptional and is so delicious. We will be back next summer for our birthdays! Thank you Jen for your lovely welcome and for looking after us so well too.
Lovely cosy little pub. Very friendly and efficient service without being obtrusive. Food was on the pricey side but outstanding quality.
Once again another warm welcome and very lovely dining experience. It was the perfect evening for a catch up with a very good friend.
This place is highly recommended, however you should always remember to book well in advance as it is very popular and not massive.....but you will not be disappointed.
Lovely tasty food in a warm and cosy Christmasy setting. Very welcoming friendly staff.
Will definitely return
Just perfect for a family lunch. Could not be faulted.
We had a fantastic meal defiantly be back again. Service and food was exceptional.
We had an amazing time. The food was out of this world. The service from Jo and her team was outstanding.
It's lovely to continue to revisit the Butchers Arms and know that their menu regularly changes with seasonal produce and they continuous offer delicious, mouthwatering dishes.
Superb service, ambience and above all the food.
The meal we had was exquisite - duck terrine, shoulder of lamb and rhubarb crumble. Delicate flavours and generous portions.
We will definitely return and the food and drink is very highly recommended.
Although a little difficult to find especially in the dark, the Butchers Arms is well worth the effort and would be difficult to beat.
Really off the beaten track. Service exceptional, food a tad disappointing but still good.
Go if you’re passing
