The Butchers Arms
Our 16th century Public House is situated on Lime Street in the parish of Eldersfield near Gloucester.
The Butchers Arms is first and foremost a rural pub, where the bar is the hub of life, with low ceilings, wooden floors, roaring fires and real ale served straight from the cask.
The food is British and we source only the finest ingredients from local suppliers. The menu constantly changes according to what is in season.
Please note that as it is a small pub and we are unable to cater for children under the age of 10.
Great service with very attentive staff, Food okay but expected more considering it awards
Everything was incredible. We’ll be back!
Thank you and hope to see you soon!
Amazing service, super friendly and helpful. Lovely unique place that is great for special occasions, they make a big effort for everyone. Highly recommend.
Thank you for your review!
We left the restaurant disappointed, although there were some very good things about the meal. I was not impressed with the bread which was heavy and not particularly tasty. Three of us chose the prawn and crab salad which we felt was overpriced and very ordinary, with 3 fairly tasteless prawns and the small amount of crab overpowered by the sauce. The fourth of our party had the scotch egg which he said was very good. The main courses were fine, especially the locally sourced venison. The desserts were good standard fare. When we have been in the past we have been excited by the cooking but this was not the case this time. We felt that this was bistro food at fine dining prices.
Friendly attentive staff, nice atmosphere, great well cooked and presented food and a decent real ale. What more could you want?
Thank you for your kind review!
Excellent service from the courtesy call the day before our reservation to the warmth of the welcome on arrival very friendly and help, the food was really wonderful a great time was had by us all.
Definitely worth the trip
Excellent food , & beautifully presented . Full of rustic charm , warm & friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Delicious in every sense of the word. Only slight disappointment was the price. Having eaten there under previous ownership and a Michelin Star, was disappointed the price didn't reflect the more bistro feel of this lovely eatery. Would definitely recommend but also warn about cost.
Tucked away in rural Gloucestershire this is a destination public house serving exquisite food.
Good to see the ale in barrels behind the bar and a great choice of wine / gin.
Not massive inside which adds to the atmosphere, however it has all the elements of a great foody night out.
As a non drinker that eve would have loved to see some non alcoholic beers ( try Adnams low alcohol Ghost Ship or Brew Dog Nanny State - both hoppy and flavoursome)
All round good location and worth 50min drive.
A superb pub with fantastic food and great service. Refreshing not to have loud music pumping away in the background as with other pubs we have visited
We would highly recommend a visit as the food was exceptional.
Sensitively crafted food in a wonderful setting. If you want to get away from "giant cod and chips" this the place for you. A food and proper British pub lovers dream.
Exceptional food as always, lovely quite location and surroundings.
superb food with relaxed atmosphere.
Stunning food, lovely owner/staff, charming venue!
Good ingredients, clever variation on breaded fish (hake) with wild garlic, raw fennel, crushed new potatoes, asparagus. Hereford fillet good quality but nowhere near cooked to medium that was ordered.
Rather too quiet meal at lunchtime Bank Holiday Friday but friendly service and locals. Quaint setting and historic building.
What a wonderful place. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is lovely and the service is superb. My number one choice for a special dinner.
Really friendly service made us feel very special. Food top class superb attention to detail. Is now a go to destination for special fine dining.
We came for lunch and had a fabulous meal. The pub has a lovely ambiance and really friendly service. Every part of meal was fantastic with fresh ingredients that were prepared and presented with care and attention to detail. It's a shame we don't live closer.
Went there for a Birthday meal, we were made to feel very welcome, the food an ambience was wonderful - can't wait to go again.
Went for an anniversary meal. The service was impeccable, they couldn't have been more helpful. All three courses were superb, including a perfectly cooked Chateaubriand. Not cheap, but worth every penny. This was our second visit, we'll definitely be returning.
Great little restaurant out in the sticks. We drove from South Worcester and it was only a half hour drive that was made all the more worth it by the incredibly attentive staff and owners and of course the great food! Really well priced and will definitely be making another trick soon!
We received a warm welcome with an offer to take our coats. There was enough choice of food and several wines were available by the glass. The food turned out to be excellent and was the best meal of our holiday. The service was excellent despite the staff looking a little hard pressed; they worked hard! I would definitely recommend.
This is one of my favourite gastro pubs. Always superb food and service and is to be recommended.
An excellent meal. Great service, great menu - my fav in Gloucestershire!
Lovely location, friendly and efficient service, great food using locally sourced produce. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
We love eating at the Butchers Arms. A lovely place to visit for a special occasion. The food is consistently to a very high standard, absolutely delicious, well thought through and beautifully presented. The service, wine list and real ale is excellent too. We’re very fortunate to have such a special place within our neighbourhood and are already looking forward to our next visit!
Excellent, worth the trip. The new Owners have followed the previous owners. The only comment was the draught from the front door.Would have appreciated being in the other room.Look forward to our next visit.
Lovely meal, excellent friendly welcoming service, my husbands 85th birthday and we had Happy Birthday all over the table plus a candle in the dessert!! Thank you.
Just a fabulous experience. Staff were very welcoming; made us feel that nothing would be too much trouble. Food was great as was the beer. Not a massive selection of wine available but the house wine was fine for both white and red. I particularly love the atmosphere of a country pub but with fine dining. I wish it was my local. Highly recommended.
We ate at The Butcher’s Arms last week - great service and wonderful food in lovely, relaxed surroundings, couldn’t ask for anything more. Would thoroughly recommend.
Nice ambience staff always friendly and helpful
Food nearly always excellent although this time
Had the duck as main a bit challenging to cut but
Was OK once sliced - might have been a blunt knife
Rest of meal very good
Would recommend always
Although food, service and general ambience were very good unfortunately would not recommend as far too expensive for the quality and quantity of food. It was my birthday and we did not even receive a birthday drink, merely a candle stuck in my pudding!
My husband was celebrating his birthday and so wanted a nice pub meal, as opposed to the all too familiar ‘cooked from frozen’ ping chef type meals!
The Butchers Arms did not disappoint, it excelled in every way. The food presentation and quality was certainly very worthy of the Michelin star accreditation, as was the excellent attentive service provided by the two lovely ladies looking after the customers!
Although there was only one cask ale on sale, the Wyve Valley Golden Ale did not disappoint, as it was a super light and refreshing accompaniment to the very yummy food!
The pub ambience was lovely. Two separate dining areas heated by very welcoming wood burners. Nice and snug!
All in all, a very pleasant lunchtime experience. Yes, I would return there and also recommend it to my friends. Keep up the excellent work ladies!
Nice place, good food, pleasant staff. What's not to like?
Our local go to choice for Sunday Lunch-when we can get a table!
The food is outstanding, particularly the venison dish.
The salted caramel ice cream that accompanied the chocolate ganache was to die for.
What a delightful find especially since they have only been open about 15 months. The quality of the meal was excellent - my only observation that it was very slightly on the pricey side for a atmospheric village pub ambience. This is NOT a reflection on the quality of the food or service, rather an observation of expectation of white tablecloth silver service at this price range. They also have a very neat touch of a self catering cottage immediately adjacent which you can arrange to use so that you don't have to arrange to drive home after imbibing in an excellent meal with the appropriate wines!
Best food I have eaten in a very long time. Will definatly be going again and this time staying longer to enjoy the place fully.
Lovely food in a proper, rustic country pub. Wood burning stoves in each room. Locals chatting round the bar in the centre of the pub added life. Actually managed to produce a dairy-free dessert that was not fruit salad or sorbet! Much appreciated. A little pricey but good value for what it is.
