The Butchers Arms
Our 16th century Public House is situated on Lime Street in the parish of Eldersfield near Gloucester.
The Butchers Arms is first and foremost a rural pub, where the bar is the hub of life, with low ceilings, wooden floors, roaring fires and real ale served straight from the cask.
The food is British and we source only the finest ingredients from local suppliers. The menu constantly changes according to what is in season.
Please note that as it is a small pub and we are unable to cater for children under the age of 10.
- Surfaces sanitised between seatings
- Common areas deep cleaned daily
- Clean menu provided to every guest
- Sanitiser or wipes provided for customers
- Contactless payment available
- Limited number of seated diners
- Distancing maintained in common areas
- Extra space between tables
- Sick staff prohibited in the workplace
We stopped off for lunch on a Friday to break up a long drive. In a post-COVID world, the garden was fanatically arranged with tables outside that were all undercover - much needed on the hottest day of the year so far.
Food and service were both excellent and if we we’re local I’d love to be able to return to work my way through the menu. If we’re ever back in the area again we’ll certainly look to make a detour!
Top quality food in a lovely country pub. well worth a visit.
The food, service & ambience was excellent & every effort was made to ensure compliance with current rules.
A real hidden gem, from the moment we arrived our hostess and her attentive staff couldn’t do enough for but without being overly fussy. The food and wine were of the highest quality. Overall we had a wonderful night at the Butchers Arms
Excellent food and service and booked to go back again
Really lovely experience. Great food and service. Beautiful pub in a tranquil setting.
Fantastic - lovely pub. Would have loved to be in the fab garden but British summer weather prohibited. Can’t believe It’s taken so long for me to find out about this gem. Will definitely be back
Congratulations to the Chef - a fantastic meal, a notch up on our last visit and that was a good meal. The garden setting worked well for lunch, quiet, lots of room and attentive staff. We will be returning soon!
Fantastic food with fantastic staff!
Could not fault the whole experience from start to finish
As always great service and amazing food Will be back
Delicious food, friendly and good service. Lovely atmosphere and well laid out. Highly recommend.
Great to get back to this lovely place for excellent food, friendly service and lovely rustic atmosphere
Lovely place to visit with lovely food and surroundings. Very friendly and accommodating staff and owners.
Lovely spot, calm and laid back. Great service and great food.
Superb little pub but with outstanding food. Never disappoints. Had the Salt Cod Scotch egg & mussels today. Both delicious.
Fabulous village pub, great service and good - especially for their first opening after lock down!
First meal out following lockdown! Brilliantly covid secure and felt very looked after!
Food was spot on and service was fab as ever!!
Well done and thank you team!!
If it were closer to home we would be there every week.
When our friends come to visit from Manchester the first thing they ask is can we go to the Butchers Arms.
Would recommend to anyone.
Lovely little surprise, everything was perfect. Our meals were delicious and staff were so friendly. Wish we lived closer I would be there every week. Thank you
One of the best pub meals I've had. The service was warm but discreet, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was calm and cosy.
Great setting - informal but just a lovely place to eat; very good personal service throughout. My venison was perfection. The crab starter was also a triumph. Overall a great night: highly recommend. Being honest, the white sauvignon was gorgeous, but we weren't that keen on the red with the naughty title. Realise this is purely personal preference. Thanks for a lovely evening.
A beautiful pub, great service and truly outstanding food. The only disappointment was that it took almost two years to make it after first hearing about The Butchers Arms. We will be regular customers!
Absolutely delicious food, great service and fantastic wine. Lovely atmosphere, can’t wait to go back!
Delicious, seasonal food. Warm welcome on a cold, wet day. By some miracle, The Butchers Arms manage to retain the true ‘village pub atmosphere and surroundings’ whilst serving seriously good food.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Glenys
Imaginative menu, well cooked and presented and, excellent service from the bar. Best place to eat in this part of Gloucestershire by a country mile.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Frank.
Excellent restaurant with brilliant food and service!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Frank.
We try to save this for a treat, and they never fail to impress. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, and helpful staff. The menu isn't huge, but you still struggle to choose from the lovely selection. Roll on next birthday!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Richard.
Great place to eat. Too many restraunteurs have fallen in to the trap of the soulless “gastro pub”. The Butcher's arms is a very welcome antidote to this hackneyed formula, warm friendly and full of history. Don’t expect pretentious decor or designer wallpaper here just a good old fashioned pub but with fantastic food and great service. The three course lunch was also very reasonably priced. We will certainly come again and have already recommended it to other family members and friends.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Nick.
Fantastic meal all round. Couldn't complain about a thing. The pork chop was incredible. Staff really friendly and approachable. Would definitely return. A real hidden gem.
7 of us came to the Butchers for dinner on Saturday night to celebrate my birthday.
It’s my favourite restaurant for a special occasion treat, as it’s slightly pricier than a normal Saturday night meal out, but having said that it’s great value as the food is of an excellent quality without being pretentious or over the top.
The staff are really friendly and the food came out nice & quickly even though very freshly cooked and beautifully presented.
10/10 as usual, thank you,
Keep doing what you’re doing!
Excellent food and extremely good efficient service but it is an old pub so seating quite rustic and you have to go outside to the loo!
But would definitely recommend a visit
Fabulous meal in a relaxed setting. Service is great without being intrusive.Never disappoints.
Super delicious food and wine beside a cosy fire in comfortable surroundings with great service. What more is there to say, except we hope to return soon!
Lifted the spirits on a dank January lunchtime. Best food and cider I have had in a long time. Will definitely be going back.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Gill.
We had dinner on Sunday. The food was very good but had wished it was Sunday lunch e.g roast beef, or roast lamb etc. Also would have enjoyed a price for all three meals not all individually priced. Not a problem on Saturday or mid-week but Sunday thought it would be different. Beer was very good. Suggest bespoke slate table and mats not just plane. My apple crumble dessert was OK but a little small. This was a good find. My partner had the duck which she loved.
From the moment we arrived we were attended to, we ordered drinks at the bar and were given the option to be seated at our table, even though we were half an hour early, which we did. Table was laid out well with fresh ice water and homemade bread with butter arrived straight away. The bread was to die for, and still warm. I knew we were in for a treat at the moment.
Starters were fantastic, flavoursome and elegantly plated. I always tend to go for those dishes you wouldn't necessarily get elsewhere, and they didn't disappoint.
From start to finish, the service was on point and cheerful, food, breathtakingly good. Butty Bach was the ale on tap, another huge box tick.
We left feeling warm and fulfilled. Much better value for the money than many other places in and around the area. 5*
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Tom.
Had a wonderful time! From the moment I emailed for a reservation to the moment we left the service was fantastic! Food was delicious, everyone commented on it! Definitely recommend this restaurant!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Sam.
We (mostly) enjoyed our lunch at the Butchers Arms. The food was excellent and the staff helpful. The only fly in the ointment was a group of noisy fellow diners that made conversation difficult - not really the pub's fault. Consequently, I would definitely recommend the Butchers Arms.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Mary.
Great meal. Very good value and excellent food. Charming place which hasn’t been spoiled or tatted up beyond recognition. Great service by the owners.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a nice review Ben.
This was my first time at the Butchers Arms (one of my guest had been there 35 years earlier it has changed) we thought it a lovely pub and outstanding restaurant
we would recommend the meals as exceptional.
The staff were very welcoming, efficient and friendly
I would recommend the Butchers Arms as a place to take friends and colleagues for a cracking meal
