The Butchers Arms
Our 16th century Public House is situated on Lime Street in the parish of Eldersfield near Gloucester.
The Butchers Arms is first and foremost a rural pub, where the bar is the hub of life, with low ceilings, wooden floors, roaring fires and real ale served straight from the cask.
The food is British and we source only the finest ingredients from local suppliers. The menu constantly changes according to what is in season.
Please note that as it is a small pub and we are unable to cater for children under the age of 10.
Delicious, seasonal food. Warm welcome on a cold, wet day. By some miracle, The Butchers Arms manage to retain the true ‘village pub atmosphere and surroundings’ whilst serving seriously good food.
Imaginative menu, well cooked and presented and, excellent service from the bar. Best place to eat in this part of Gloucestershire by a country mile.
Excellent restaurant with brilliant food and service!
We try to save this for a treat, and they never fail to impress. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, and helpful staff. The menu isn't huge, but you still struggle to choose from the lovely selection. Roll on next birthday!
Great place to eat. Too many restraunteurs have fallen in to the trap of the soulless “gastro pub”. The Butcher's arms is a very welcome antidote to this hackneyed formula, warm friendly and full of history. Don’t expect pretentious decor or designer wallpaper here just a good old fashioned pub but with fantastic food and great service. The three course lunch was also very reasonably priced. We will certainly come again and have already recommended it to other family members and friends.
Fantastic meal all round. Couldn't complain about a thing. The pork chop was incredible. Staff really friendly and approachable. Would definitely return. A real hidden gem.
7 of us came to the Butchers for dinner on Saturday night to celebrate my birthday.
It’s my favourite restaurant for a special occasion treat, as it’s slightly pricier than a normal Saturday night meal out, but having said that it’s great value as the food is of an excellent quality without being pretentious or over the top.
The staff are really friendly and the food came out nice & quickly even though very freshly cooked and beautifully presented.
10/10 as usual, thank you,
Keep doing what you’re doing!
Excellent food and extremely good efficient service but it is an old pub so seating quite rustic and you have to go outside to the loo!
But would definitely recommend a visit
Fabulous meal in a relaxed setting. Service is great without being intrusive.Never disappoints.
Super delicious food and wine beside a cosy fire in comfortable surroundings with great service. What more is there to say, except we hope to return soon!
Lifted the spirits on a dank January lunchtime. Best food and cider I have had in a long time. Will definitely be going back.
We had dinner on Sunday. The food was very good but had wished it was Sunday lunch e.g roast beef, or roast lamb etc. Also would have enjoyed a price for all three meals not all individually priced. Not a problem on Saturday or mid-week but Sunday thought it would be different. Beer was very good. Suggest bespoke slate table and mats not just plane. My apple crumble dessert was OK but a little small. This was a good find. My partner had the duck which she loved.
From the moment we arrived we were attended to, we ordered drinks at the bar and were given the option to be seated at our table, even though we were half an hour early, which we did. Table was laid out well with fresh ice water and homemade bread with butter arrived straight away. The bread was to die for, and still warm. I knew we were in for a treat at the moment.
Starters were fantastic, flavoursome and elegantly plated. I always tend to go for those dishes you wouldn't necessarily get elsewhere, and they didn't disappoint.
From start to finish, the service was on point and cheerful, food, breathtakingly good. Butty Bach was the ale on tap, another huge box tick.
We left feeling warm and fulfilled. Much better value for the money than many other places in and around the area. 5*
Had a wonderful time! From the moment I emailed for a reservation to the moment we left the service was fantastic! Food was delicious, everyone commented on it! Definitely recommend this restaurant!
We (mostly) enjoyed our lunch at the Butchers Arms. The food was excellent and the staff helpful. The only fly in the ointment was a group of noisy fellow diners that made conversation difficult - not really the pub's fault. Consequently, I would definitely recommend the Butchers Arms.
Great meal. Very good value and excellent food. Charming place which hasn’t been spoiled or tatted up beyond recognition. Great service by the owners.
This was my first time at the Butchers Arms (one of my guest had been there 35 years earlier it has changed) we thought it a lovely pub and outstanding restaurant
we would recommend the meals as exceptional.
The staff were very welcoming, efficient and friendly
I would recommend the Butchers Arms as a place to take friends and colleagues for a cracking meal
From start to finish our 'special' evening could not be faulted which is a tribute to both the front of house staff and to those 'out the back' who prepared a wonderful dinner for us to celebrate the occassion' and simple but discreet table decoration being indicative of the attention to detail. Yes this is real country pub with good beer and an interesting array of wines. Although you eat in the open bar area the buzz about the place was atmospheric the service was impeccable and the food a tremendous accolade to those who presented a variety of interesting and very well sourced ingredients into plates of sublime yumminess. Would we go back? you bet we will. It would be churlish to single out any individual for praise because it is clear the emphasis as we have said is making each 'customer' feel special so yes, highly recommended with our thanks for making a special event even more memorable.
Friendly helpful staff, fantastic food. Not the easiest place to find but we’ll worth the effort.
They now do a set menu at £25 per head for 3 courses of delicious locally sourced seasonal dishes, catering for allergies if told when booking. Worth booking in advance as limited tables
A review of their one star status is overdue, star should be removed immediately! Unimaginative menu and VERY plain cooking, no seasoning, very bland. Was it chef's day off? Grossly overpriced for what was 2nd rate pub food. Was very noisy as there was a large party in the small bar where we were seated which should have been in the designated dining room at the rear. Used to eat there fairly regularly under the previous owners but shan't be going back.
Dear Mr Steen, Thank you for your review. We are very sorry you did not enjoy your meal. First off we do not have a Michelin Star. We are listed in the Michelin guide, which we are very proud of. At the end of each meal we ask if people enjoyed their food and their experience at the pub. I wish that you had voiced your opinion when asked. Admittedly just before Christmas it is always very busy, so apologies if you found it too noisy. We wish you a Happy New Year. Jo-Anne Block Owner
Superb in every way. Really enjoyable lunch. Good value and friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back
Thank you Paul.
We had a fantastic night out, i would highly recommend
Thank you Guy.
Our usual treat 3 - 4 times a year to enjoy the amazing food just down the road from us. We love the seasonal menu so rarely eat the same meal twice unless of course it is so delicious it deserves being repeated. Would highly recommend.
Its was our second visit and the meal lived up to our expectation we shall dine again some time soon
Thank you Bobby.
Had a fantastic dinner with friends and would recommend it as a great place to visit for good food plus service.
Thank you Ross.
Six of us went out for a part working lunch. All six of us commented about the quality of the food. Beautifully cooked food. Staff too were delightful. We shall be back for office Christmas meal in three weeks. Looking forward to it.
The Butchers Arms is a lovely place, comfortable and decorated with great style.
We’ve eaten at the butchers arms several times and every time the meal and service has been fantastic.
Fantastic setting for a special family meal. Attentive service, beautiful food and their attention to detail was second to none. Made to feel very welcome and great special touches for my mums birthday.
Fantastic food and service! Thank so much and we will be back soon.
Lovely food and great service. Really cosy and the food surpassed expectations.
Great lunch, friendly service.
Don’t let the floods stop you getting there!
Wonderful food, lovely staff, nice atmosphere never disappoints
Very friendly and attentive service. Food interesting and well presented
We had a wonderful meal for my sons 21st birthday. We chose four different starters and mains from the menu and all were absolutely delicious. These were followed by a beautifully rich Chocolate Ganache with honeycomb and cherries.mmmm. This is a very warm and welcoming pub with amazing food accompanied by very friendly staff and wonderful service. Can't wait for our next visit.
Beautiful location, building and interior. Couldn’t have wished for a more friendly and welcoming atmosphere. A perfect mix of professional yet thoroughly warm and genial. Lovely food and wine. Just wish it was closer to home, although absolutely well worth the journey. Can’t fault.
Food was delicious! Staff really friendly and lovely too, and what an amazing building. Only thing I would say is that there was no music at all and we found ourselves almost whispering at points. Would definitely go back though!
Our first visit to The Butchers Arms and we were delighted. The staff that were on that particular evening were fantastic, a great asset to the place, friendly, full of smiles, and just the right amount of chat to make it all very relaxing. Food was superb, I had the duck and my partner the hake, cooked beautifully. Lovely fires on a very dismal evening and candles, the atmosphere was perfect. We shall definitely go back, it is probably about an hours drive away, and certainly worth it.
This is the first time that I’ve eaten here with these new owners, and the food was much much better than with the previous ones. The place is far more welcoming now, but it’s far too expensive for what it is.
