The Butchers Arms
Our 16th century Public House is situated on Lime Street in the parish of Eldersfield near Gloucester.
The Butchers Arms is first and foremost a rural pub, where the bar is the hub of life, with low ceilings, wooden floors, roaring fires and real ale served straight from the cask.
The food is British and we source only the finest ingredients from local suppliers. The menu constantly changes according to what is in season.
Please note that as it is a small pub and we are unable to cater for children under the age of 10.
Lovely food and great service. Really cosy and the food surpassed expectations.
Great lunch, friendly service.
Don’t let the floods stop you getting there!
Wonderful food, lovely staff, nice atmosphere never disappoints
Very friendly and attentive service. Food interesting and well presented
We had a wonderful meal for my sons 21st birthday. We chose four different starters and mains from the menu and all were absolutely delicious. These were followed by a beautifully rich Chocolate Ganache with honeycomb and cherries.mmmm. This is a very warm and welcoming pub with amazing food accompanied by very friendly staff and wonderful service. Can't wait for our next visit.
Beautiful location, building and interior. Couldn’t have wished for a more friendly and welcoming atmosphere. A perfect mix of professional yet thoroughly warm and genial. Lovely food and wine. Just wish it was closer to home, although absolutely well worth the journey. Can’t fault.
Food was delicious! Staff really friendly and lovely too, and what an amazing building. Only thing I would say is that there was no music at all and we found ourselves almost whispering at points. Would definitely go back though!
Our first visit to The Butchers Arms and we were delighted. The staff that were on that particular evening were fantastic, a great asset to the place, friendly, full of smiles, and just the right amount of chat to make it all very relaxing. Food was superb, I had the duck and my partner the hake, cooked beautifully. Lovely fires on a very dismal evening and candles, the atmosphere was perfect. We shall definitely go back, it is probably about an hours drive away, and certainly worth it.
This is the first time that I’ve eaten here with these new owners, and the food was much much better than with the previous ones. The place is far more welcoming now, but it’s far too expensive for what it is.
We had been to the Butchers Arms on several occasions in the past before it changed hands and had always thoroughly enjoyed our meal. This was the first time we had been back since the change of ownership and we were a little disappointed. The welcome and service was lovely, however the food felt a little confused and at times lacked attention to detail.
The mains in particular were disappointing, with a steak that although perfectly cooked, was served lukewarm and had little extra on the dish to add interest. The lamb again was beautifully cooked but my husband found the accompanying barley and pomegranate salad jarred with the meat and the whole dish was served in a bowl, making it awkward to tackle the lamb cutlet.
For desert we had the sticky toffee pudding, in essence a square of sponge with sauce pooled around the plate and a blob of ice cream. Again, perfectly edible but for a restaurant that proudly touts it’s entries in the good food guide and the Michelin guide, it felt profoundly average.
First visit with the new hosts in charge and we were not disappointed. Excellent menu choices, superb food and great service. Highly recommended.
The food and service was perfect the interior is full of character
Had a lovely night food was delightful, service excellent and we will return soon. Thank you
Warm welcome, service and food was outstanding. I had the beef steak, which was cooked exactly as requested and beautifully tender and my partner said the venison was the best that she had ever had.
Really love coming here. The warm welcome. The fabulous food. The amazing service. Definitely one of my favourites. Thank you
Excellent and original food, prompt and friendly service in a charmingly rustic setting.
First class food, great service, lovely choice of wines (some very nice inexpensive gems there), nice, if loud, ambience, excellent range of options in both prix fixé and a la Carte menus. Reasonable pricing too. What’s not to like?!
Exceptionally warm service, fantastic food and knowledgeable advice. Thank you for a lovely meal.
My wife and I were staying overnight in Cheltenham (Thursday 26 September 2019) and were looking for something special for dinner. Well, we certainly found that at The Butchers Arms. What amazing experience. On arrival the property looked beautiful and inviting. Inside, we had a very friendly welcome. The menu was perfectly balanced and the food was outstanding. We cannot recommend The Butchers Arms highly enough.
Great food, service. Little noisy at peak. London standard cooking in countryside
I would recommend and would visit again.
Happy smiling faces, quaint and cosy half timbered building and fantastic food - nothing else required for a perfect evening. Thank you to all.
Outstanding service, starting with a wonderful welcome. Have eaten here myriad times previously, however this time the quality of food was not even close to the other occasions.
Excellent all round! Will definitely come again. Fantastic service, food was incredibly and great that it could be catered to me as I’m pregnant.
The atmosphere was lovely too, you can really tell it’s got a wholesome family/ community feel
A friendly welcome and ongoing service. A nice small menu and delicious well prepared food. The ambience was very pleasant and this pub is fully recommended.
Lovely welcome. Service very good throughout the experience. Food was delicious on every course. Don’t usually have a desert but couldn’t resist one here. Fine choices of wine available to match any dish well. Good ambiance. Have booked to go back!
Food is great and worth the journey but the best thing about The Butchers Arms is the staff; friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommended.
6 of us in one voice say that our lunch in the Butchers Arms was excellent in all respects. Even our two teenagers impressed us with their appreciation of the ‘adult’ menu and they really ‘tucked in’. Don’t expect pub grub if you eat in the Butchers Arms nor ‘fine dining’ because it is actually better than that - a small hybrid menu with delicious food served in good portions. Desserts, which all too often disappointing in so many establishments, are superb. We look forward to returning.
Staff made us feel genuinely welcome. Attractive pub surroundings with a rustic feel. Excellent value set dinner menu with quality ingredients, well matched and beautifully cooked and presented. Short but interestingly-selected wine list. This is a little gem of an eaterie, run by a couple who are in love with what they do, and it shows. Well worth a return visit.
Amazing food - so lucky to have this close by! It's little in the pricier side, but you won't be disappointed.
Excellently cooked meal from a happily simple choice on an excellent menu. Fine front of house service.
Thank you very much for your review!
Great food, as always, in a lovely atmosphere and served by friendly staff. Do not expect pub grub here.
This is more than a pub but less formal than a "gastro-pub" and all the better for it too.
We will be back...again!
Thank you very much for your kind review, really glad you enjoyed the food and service. See you soon!
Fantastic food and service in a lovely country pub location. Will definitely be going back again. I can’t recommend highly enough.
Class setting for a great meal in a beautiful pub. Service was outstanding as the front of house even driving us home after the meal. Wine was great, grub was brilliant and i would recommend thoroughly.
Friendly, relaxed service. Nice selection of dishes on the menu - I could have eaten any of them. Everyone in our party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed their meals and plates were wiped clean (that doesn't mean that portions were too small!!). Would recommend although please note that prices are on the higher side - reasonable for level of quality though.
Excellent food and service. The set lunch menu is very good value or you can spend more by going a la carte! A lovely welcoming place to eat with both locals drinking and visitors eating equally well looked after by the friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit - you will not be disappointed!
Thank you very much for your review
A charming destination pub with a warm welcome and an original menu. We had a lovely birthday meal for two
Glad you enjoyed the birthday meal and hope to see you soon. Thanks
We really enjoyed our evening at this restaurant. The food is beautifully cooked and presented without being cheffie. In other words it was real food and not prissy which we are quite fed up with. The burrata starter was very special. We loved the desserts and the wines are good and reasonably priced with an outstanding pinot gris rose. Staff are warm, friendly and efficient. This is a small staff who work extremely hard but they obviously enjoy what they’re doing and it is a great building to work in with loads of atmosphere and people enjoying themselves. We also liked that we were not rushed. Love to return one day.
Thank you for your review

Great service with very attentive staff, Food okay but expected more considering it awards
