Enjoyed a very nice two course meal, Venison pie was a proper pie, baked in a tin, then a hearty slice with a tasty jue. The other half enjoyed the Venison burger. Starters of camembert and beetroot salad were great. Open table app worked a treat, table was ready and waiting on arrival. Worth a visit. Will go back.
Visited Catherine Wheel on a one night stop over in Marshfield, recommended by our host.
Great reception, we arrived an hour early and were accommodated for a pre-meal drink and looked after fantastically till we were shown to our table.
Food was served in good time and excellent , service was impeccable and we felt looked after by attentive staff.
Would recommend the Catherine Wheel to any who are in the locality.
Food is always good especially Sunday lunch and a lovely atmosphere in the pub.
My partner had a madras curry which looked like meat and gravy no real heat to it and i had roasted beetroot and halloumi salad which was passable. In the next room there was a party of people who were quite drunk and kept going to check on someone in the toilet who had been in there for 2 hours plus. Not a pub i will be revisiting.
Great friendly service. The quality and taste of the food was great but would have liked a few more vegetables with the pie. The menu is much reduced than previously and no longer haS any real any standout choices, it’s all pretty much standard good pub grub.
Lovely pub and great staff. We had the roast at the end of the day and the portion size was large with plenty of everything. We didn’t have to wait very long. Couldn’t fault it during these times and social distancing.
Fantastic food, friendly and helpful staff. Sat outside, bit noisy as beer was being delivered. No beer on tap before.
The best Sunday lunch anywhere ! Lovely ambiance and always a friendly welcome.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us.
We'll definitely return.
Great local pub with very friendly staff and good food.
Absolutely amazing Sunday roast at the Catherine Wheel; very generous portions and everything was delicious, all of our plates were clean! Will definitely be going back again!
Fabulous roast, as ever!
We would have liked a fire in the dining room, but as we were the only guests this was rather cheerless - particularly because of the structural problems in there. The bar area had a lovely fire, but was occupied by other people who seemed to be sitting more or less one per table! They were also rather noisy, which at times was quite obtrusive in the dining room. The food was generally good, and we were welcomed, but the bubble and squeak with the venison was almost entirely mashed potato, so a disappointing mix.
Had a lovely traditional roast at the Catherine Wheel. Always friendly and efficient.
Really friendly staff, with great food and ambiance
We visited the Catherine Wheel for a second time on 19th January.
Again it didn't disappoint, the Sunday lunch was fabulous.
I had Belly of Pork, my Wife had the Chicken and Mother in Law the Lamb.
All fantastic and we shall return again!!!
On arrival we were given the choice of two tables, and decided the one closest to the bar was the best option for a bit more atmosphere. Given how close the table was to the bar, we struck up a good rapport with the bar staff, who were very friendly and helpful. The menu had something for everyone except (surprisingly) a ubiquitous over priced beef burger! I always look for a specials board, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed with a Partridge Hot Pot, which was absolutely delicious, and at £12 including a choice of potatoes as a side was an absolute bargain and very tasty! The rest of the menu was also reasonably priced, and everyone enjoyed their respective choice of food.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by one and we will be definitely be returning at the earliest opportunity.
Very good food and great service.
The best Sunday lunch. Lovely, warm & cosy pub with excellent food and friendly service. Hard to beat
Poor barmaid, drink not offered for 20 mins, pointed through to restaurant and told your table is through there.
Had Venison faggots , really different way to serve a traditional meat , tasted great.
Enjoyed a lovely dinner at The Catherine Wheel with some friends. We were warmly welcomed and the service was very attentive. We will definitely be back!
Great Sunday roast at our local pub. Seriously good food with every element cooked just right and generous portions. Friendly staff too! We’ll be back very soon. Thanks 😊
The young chap who served us was incredibly polite, hard working and respectful. He was an absolute delight. Food was superb and requests catered for with no quibbling. We will be back!
Lovely relaxed evening. Wonderful food (and plenty of it!) The menu has plenty of variety without being ostentatious. Great ambiance and lovely village location. Overall great value.
Had a lovely sunday lunch with friends - plenty of veggies, cooked properly and delicious. Meat a tiny bit grisly and Yorkshires seemed a bit soggy. Noisy room - we've been there before and asked to move - we should have known better this time!! Overall, though, a lovely place, excellent service and great beer choice too.
We've eaten at The Catherine Wheel on numerous occasions and each time it's been a great experience. The food was very good and the staff are all nice people. We'll definitely be going there again.
Always my favourite for a good lunch or evening meal. Never fails us.
Booked for a weekday lunch food was fabulous and plenty of it.
Service was very good and staff were 5*
Genuine good pub food and friendly atmosphere with friendly service
Was a lovely place to go but unfortunately when we went it was just after the bank holiday and there was less that half the menu left so no veggie option other than a salad for my husband and although he wasn’t too impressed with no other choice given he did enjoy his salad and had to order a few sides, Service was good but couldn’t order drinks at the table as a member of staff hadn’t turned up, was such a shame as it really was a lovely place otherwise.
We've been visiting The Cathrine Wheel for years and it's always good. The food is really good and the staff are all nice people. Couldn't ask for more really.
Great Sunday lunch. Try and get a table in the lovely front rooms. The back room is a but small and gloomy.
Lovely meal and surroundings. Staff accommodated the order, which was not straight forward, with no problem at all. Had a great time.
We’ve been going to the Catherine Wheel for some years now with friends and/ or family and always have an excellent meal. We love going there and it is certainly the favourite place to eat for both myself and my brother. My husband is veggie/ vegan and can always find something on the menu, though would like more choice, which is often enjoyed by non- vegans/ veggies, of course!
Shall be there again soon!
Love this new booking and feedback site!
Thanks again to the staff at the Catherine Wheel.
This is a great pub, very friendly with good food and open through the afternoons. I've visited regularly to meet a friend every 2-3 months over the last couple of years and it's always been very enjoyable.
Very nice meal on Saturday evening . Booked on line easy to do . Table was ready when we got there .Staff very pleasant and nothing was to much trouble . Food was excellent and nice and hot when arrived at the table. Had a starter and main course to full for a pudding but will leave room for one next time
Flexible reslonse regarding our on-line booking when we were delayed on the road.
Meals were very good and promptly served on a summer Saturday lunchtime.
Staff were very good.
The Catherine Wheel is a proper village pub. The bar area was busy bustling and noisy. But the dining area is a separate room which avoid makes it good for converation. The menu has the pub classics but also a good selection of other things. Good food, good size portions and good value. Highly recommended.
I liked the Cathrine Wheel very much. The lady behind the bar was very friendly, the decoration was tasteful and it felt like a locals pub. The food (Sea Bass) was excellent and arrived faster than I expected, given the number of people ordering. I will be going back.
