The Cavendish Arms is a 450 year old Coaching inn set in the heart of Cartmel. With Simon Rogan and his famous Lenclume restaurant we have some very high standards to maintain. Our food is fresh and sourced locally to ensure the freshest ingredients are on your plate at all times. Our menu changes often and is always being developed by our very talented Head Chef and his team. Along with a great food offering, we are challenging boundaries with our selection of 25 gins, 10 whiskeys and many more superior sprits, we always try to have an alternative rather than using main stream brands behind the bar, ensuring our guests receive the best possible value for money we can provide whilst experiencing a better than expected product. In short our aim is to make sure you leave having had a memorable time and be wearing a huge smile.

Cosy last supper before Tier 4! Lovely table near open fire. Delicious meal of the small starters then fish pie and steak pie. Very good quality. Only criticism was cabbage served with fish pie was far too salty. Gave feedback but young lady didn’t really acknowledge or offer to do anything so disappointed with that. Other staff members friendly and helpful although they tend to forget to return to table to check once main courses delivered. Found we had to draw their attention to attend to table to take pudding order and get the bill. COVID rules don’t allow us to ,eave the table otherwise we’d have gone to bar. Would recommend. Good chef. Food reliable overall. Puddings a bit pricey.
Regular there, always spot on. Rely on them for great food in these tough times.
Good food but spoilt by very uninspiring surroundings in a back room next to the kitchen with staff constantly back and forth passing right next to us. Not appropriate from a COVID-19 perspective. Asked to move but told no alternative.
Received a warm welcome from the staff. Excellent service and food and the pub/restaurant is a really lovely place to eat & drink.
Had a lovely meal on 2 separate evenings. The menu was small but I find that easier to choose. We asked if we could eat earlier in the second night and staff went out of their way to sort a ‘social distance’ table out for us. The ambiance was lovely even though the staff knew they’d be closing their doors at midnight and not be working anytime soon due to going into tier 4. Loved the fish pie and of course it wouldn’t be a trip to Cartmel without sticky toffee pudding 👍🏻
Lovely meal. Clean and safe environment. Good value for money
What a fantastic evening we had.
Thank you to paul and the team
Food amazing along with service
We will definately be back
Had a fabulous lunch. Staff attentive and food delicious
Excellent meal service value Such a great place to eat
We love going to The Cavendish Arms for drinks and food.
It is such a great pub for atmosphere ,service and good food.
We shared two of the nibbles, polenta fries and lamb koftas and then had cod.
My husband didn’t want the chickpea and chorizo with the cod so the chef swapped them for pak choi and gnocchi with brown shrimps.
All were delicious.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and we had a lovely time.
Fabulous food, great service - booked again whilst we were there
Traditional and relaxing village inn atmosphere with good service and good food.
Lovely Christmas Eve lunch Lookinh forward to returning, definitely recommend.. loved the champagne in champagne saucer glass a sweet touch.
We were two households hoping to meet up on Boxing Day but due to covid we couldn’t so we arranged to meet outside at the Cavendish arms. The owner was very friendly and the staff also. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t good but there were patio heaters to keep us warm under the covered patio. The food was good and reasonably priced. I would like to return in the summertime when we could linger a while longer
Great traditional pub, with good food and service,
Looking forward to our next visit.
All the best.
Third time eating here in 1 week. 1st & 2nd time very good but sadly our 3rd evening meal was quite poor.
Over cooked Pheasant, very tough, also cod very dry. Nibbles & starter were very nice just a shame the main course let it down.
Hey, Thank you for your feed back. So sorry about that, really glad you enjoyed the first two visits. Tell us what you had on your first two visits that made it so good. so we can look at where we went wrong on your third visit. We love to know what's right and wrong, so we can make sure things continue to improve. KInd regards and thank you for your support whilst in the area.
A very safe, friendly, and enjoyable experience in the current difficult circumstances. Thank you for the effort made to provide a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a special break.
Absolutely loved this pub / restaurant- the food was such a high standard- delicious from starter to desert. Staff were attentive and friendly, lovely atmosphere- extensive selection of gins, wines and their cocktails were top notch. Would highly recommend booking.
Always lovey to dine at the Cavendish. Such a lovely little pub.
A delicious well-cooked lamb roast! Service was excellent in these difficult times.
Very welcoming and accommodating. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Food was delicious with a great variety and choice. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning when we are able to.
We had not been out to a pub since March and The Cavendish has always been our favourite place to go unfortunately it fell short. When you have an allotted time of an hour and a half you start to panic when you have to wait 50 Minutes for starter, just about manage to finish main in the allotted time. Don’t know what went wrong but something wasn’t right.
Hi Liz, We are so sorry if we got our timing's wrong, your right 50 minutes is far too long to wait, Imp not sure what went wrong but if you give me a call at The Cavendish, we can chat about it and maybe try to make amends, I do hope your food was up to our usual standard of quality but do once again apologies for the genuine mistake we made. Our 90 minute times are for the safety of guests, reducing contact time with other guests and for no other reason
Lovely restaurant with a nice relaxed feel. All covid-19 guidance followed.
Staff were attentive and friendly, with a lovely atmosphere about the whole place. Food was incredible, no complaints to be found
Amazing food Warm and friendly atmosphere Just a little uncomfortable seating
We really enjoyed our meal at the Cavendish Arms. Everything was perfect and all the staff were so welcoming and upbeat even though they were extremely busy. Cannot wait to bring our family and friends.
See you again soon
Gerry and Dianne.
Always great food with a varied menu and fantastic service.
We had a lovely stay and meal(s) at the Cavendish Arms! Tasty food. Fab wine list. Service impeccable but friendly. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning. Thank you
Good food and great service, very safe and so good to be able to enjoying Sunday lunch out.
Lovely cosy pub, great atmosphere and even better food!
Food and service excellent as always. We can't wait to come back!
Great pub with good beer, from what I tried.
The food was excellent.
A new found family favourite.
First time dining at the Cavendish Arms and will definitely be back! The food was delicious and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The chef even prepared a beautiful roast turkey dinner which wasn't actually on the menu that day. The pigs cheek starter was so tasty and tender (served with curried cauliflower and apple puree) one of the best starters I've ever had. The cod chowder with sourdough toast was also delicious. Great selection of wines and beers too. Highly recommended!
Lovely staff Lovely place Lovely food but a bit cold where we were sat with draught from door
Lovely food and great service. We highly recommend
Great , good atmosphere .
Couldn’t be more helpful and the food was fantastic. Will definitely be going back in the near future.
Fabulous food and staff - thank you for a great evening out.
Great food but very little atmosphere, they stripped out the country pub elements and put in chairs and tales that are more suited to a trendy 'pop up' and are not comfortable. Staff service was average but not friendly and I don't think they were bothered that we turned up. Very disappointing overall - won't be going back in a hurry.
Hey , Thank you for your comments and opinions, as you see we get many fantastic comments about atmosphere, staff and food. I can assure you, my staff ARE bothered, and are working so hard to keep you all safe and us all in in employment. thank you for your opinion, but tbh we don't agree with you. keep safe .
A really good country pub with excellent food and ambiance.
Fabulous as always. Was originally unsure of the new menu as the Cavendish Classics have gone and no chicken on the menu. I’ve had chicken here for the last 12 years so was initially sceptical. However the pheasant dish they now do was really, really nice so no complaints.
Probably the best restaurant in the are right now as you get great food at the right price
