The Cavendish Arms
The Cavendish Arms is a 450 year old Coaching inn set in the heart of Cartmel. With Simon Rogan and his famous Lenclume restaurant we have some very high standards to maintain. Our food is fresh and sourced locally to ensure the freshest ingredients are on your plate at all times. Our menu changes often and is always being developed by our very talented Head Chef and his team. Along with a great food offering, we are challenging boundaries with our selection of 25 gins, 10 whiskeys and many more superior sprits, we always try to have an alternative rather than using main stream brands behind the bar, ensuring our guests receive the best possible value for money we can provide whilst experiencing a better than expected product. In short our aim is to make sure you leave having had a memorable time and be wearing a huge smile.

Perfect again food and staff outstanding
See you on the other side xx
Had an excellent night here. Only minor blip was that our bottle of white wine was delivered to the table already open and with a glass full missing! Very quickly put right by the excellent staff.
We came as a group of 4and could not faulty anything about our evening.
Ebullient host promoting good food and friendly team
Really tasty food, frienldy service and well spaced out due to COVID
Food excellent and staff very friendly, would definitely recommend
Always a lovely place to eat very warm welcome and service 10/10
Starter was under seasoned. Steak pie crust was burnt and hidden under the beef. Beef was over salted and hot tea Inedible and chips had been pre salted.
Main course was removed from the bill without quibble.
I would however advise that the waiting staff were very good
Very disappointed in our visit
The restaurant is wonderful, the service is great and the food is outstanding! I had one of the best dish dishes I have ever eaten and I cannot wait to go again!
Limited menu poor quality expensive food, ambience spoiled by being near kitchen bell. Have dined at the Cavendish over the last eight years and this was the most disappointing meal we have had there.
Hey, I am so sorry you left disappointed, having dined with us for over 8 years I'm sure you know us well enough to tell us we got it wrong. Its hard when we don't know the full story until it hits a review to put it right afterwards. A gentle nudge and a word in our ear usually works wonders. we know were not perfect but do try very hard, as I'm sure you have seen over the past 8 years. I do hope you will give us a chance and let us prove we value your custom and comments. Many Thanks.
Excellent service. Very Covid-19 aware and felt covid secure.
The food was amazing - we tried the Sunday lunch.
Cosy lovely pub. Friendly staff and nice for the dogs too.
Our allocated time of just 1 1/2 hours for 3 of us was too short and we were not able to squeeze in 3 courses
Superb food - every dish was some of the best of its type including a wonderful Chicken Caesar salad
We had a lovely meal here at the Cavendish Arms, the staff were fabulous, helpful, polite and very friendly.. I recommend the stone bass main dish so so nice.. we are looking forward to eating and staying there again 👍😊
The food was perfect, service good. We really appreciated having a lovely evening my 94 year old friend thoroughly enjoyed herself
which was my biggest concern.
Many thanks to the Cavendish Arms.
A good meal overall. The special was duck which was disappointingly tough. The stone bass was however very tasty. Service was friendly and speedy. We always eat here on our visits to Cartmel and will do so again.
Love The Cavendish. Excellent food, good service ( infact lovely people!) Under the current circumstances, they have made the restaurant very safe and we felt very comfortable.
VisitEd 4 times during our to week visit... lovely food and the staff work very hard... excellent service. Recommend the Stone Bass, Chicken Kiev And the burgers are lovely.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent and great value for money. Would definitely recommend a visit if your in Cartmel.
From the moment we arrived our experience was totally memorable. The staff were welcoming and attendant, service was excellent and the food was outstanding. The ambience in the dining area was warm and friendly and we felt very safe with the Covid arrangements in place. Altogether an unforgettable experience!
(PS - This was our second choice of restaurant in Cartmel - we were very pleased the alternative was closed that night!)
Food was served piping hot and great quality.service was great
Food was good. Service seemed rushed. Seat very uncomfortable, especially after a long walk.
Food delicious complemented with excellent service
Always cosy...always efficient staff.. atmosphere just right and the best steak and kidney pie ever
Very good although the food could have been hotter
Was a nice meal, had better cheaper, staff were nice but they needed more, lots of people waiting for drinks
Food and service are simply fantastic. We returned the following day for breakfast and Sunday lunch.
Lovely venue with great food served hot. Will revisit
Excellent food ( we had the stone bass it was delicious ! ) and service.
We will return !
Food was really good quality. Staff very friendly and attentive.
Felt very safe to visit, I liked that the Cavendish is being very careful with their mask policy ensuring that people are wearing masks on entry, this is really important to us.
Food was great, tables very spaced. Wonderful experience as always.
The room we had was basic but very clean. The bathroom was clean but dated. The shower above the bath was very basic and difficult to operate. Getting our of the bath/Shower was quite dangerous as there was a very big step out with no hand rail. I would say an accident waiting to happen.
The staff were all brilliant and the food was incredible. The best meal in a pub I have ever had!! Overall really enjoyed the stay.
All Covid measures were adhered to but this did not detract from great atmosphere.
My husband and I had completed scarfel pike during the afternoon, we booked a table for 6pm, we were greeted warmly and felt very Safe with the covid measures in place,
We both had the ribeye steak followed by sticky toffee pudding, we were ravenous and the food was absolutely amazing 👍🏻
Last minute booking as we arrived in the area that day. Staff all very friendly, felt very safe as all covid precautions were in place.
Think we had the last available table near the toilets which was a shame. Food all very tasty, served quickly by friendly staff.
Great pub, fabulous food and awesome service. Cartmel is a delight.
Lovely bar and restaurant and hotel as we know from a previous stay, will definately be back to stay as well as eat. Queer times we live in but your service was superb given the restraints, thank you. Best wishes and we will see you againg in better times.
Dave and Linda
