The Cavendish Arms
The Cavendish Arms is a 450 year old Coaching inn set in the heart of Cartmel. With Simon Rogan and his famous Lenclume restaurant we have some very high standards to maintain. Our food is fresh and sourced locally to ensure the freshest ingredients are on your plate at all times. Our menu changes often and is always being developed by our very talented Head Chef and his team. Along with a great food offering, we are challenging boundaries with our selection of 25 gins, 10 whiskeys and many more superior sprits, we always try to have an alternative rather than using main stream brands behind the bar, ensuring our guests receive the best possible value for money we can provide whilst experiencing a better than expected product. In short our aim is to make sure you leave having had a memorable time and be wearing a huge smile.

An excellent experience
Beautiful setting, friendly staff & fantastic food - always a wonderful experience
Lovely pub in the beautiful foody village of Cartmel. Our meal was excellent with great flavours and the service was polite and prompt.
Food was amazing and reasonably priced for the quality, service was great too. Nice, small rooms and low ceilings mean you can have a conversation at normal volume too. Thank you for the birthday prosecco!
Service, food and drink were all great ... had steak pie and sticky toffee pudding!
Good selection of beers, interesting menu, friendly and accommodating service. Care taken over one of our party with serious allergy. Popular venue, picturesque village.
Wonderful food and drinks in a lovely atmosphere. Staff were a bit hurried and stressed but I can't imagine what it's like having to shout at customers through a mask three times to communicate :(!
We both had polenta chips, steak/ale pie with braised cabbage and the chocolate dessert. All tasted so good combined with good service
Lovey atmosphere in this beautiful village pub. Service was excellent and food (and portion sizes) was great.
Excellent evening meal. Our group had salmon and lamb, all perfectly presented and the portions were not too large. Staff were very busy serving inside and out. Would definitely book again.
We spent a very enjoyable evening the food was amazing and staff were very friendly.
Food was excellent. Service was good but staff could have been a little more knowledgeable.
We had a delicious lunch steak & ale pie chips & red cabbage
Oven cooked salmon
Sticky toffee pud & coffees
Excellent service food & delightful sat outside
We were offered and accepted outside seating for our meal. Heating was provided to ensure diner comfort. Staff were welcoming and professional providing prompt service. Given the Covid circumstances, the menu choice available was good. We ordered a selection of 5 'nibbles' as starter, which were excellent. For mains, I ordered the steak and ale pie, about which I had read excellent reviews. My wife ordered Salmon, which was served hot but served on a bed of cold rice, with avocado and tzatziki, which didn't really marry well. My pie lived up to it's billing.
An excellent meal in lovely surroundings. We ate outside, with patio heaters we were warm.
We would thoroughly recommend the Cavendish Arms, our meal was really excellent. It was busy and service was a bit slow but well worth the wait.
Quick and friendly service
Beautiful setting by the river in the sunshine. Staff were really helpful. Would not hesitate to recommend
Great location in a very charming setting. Easy walk from the racetrack car park. Excellent food served by friendly efficient staff. Great atmosphere.
The food was superb. Very fresh, excellent quality.
Service was also very good.
Sea bass and beef fillet cooked perfectly
We had an excellent meal at the Cavendish Arms. Two people had the meat pie which they though were the best they had ever had. Two people had the Sea Bass which they thought were delicious. All were nicely presented. We did not have desserts as we were full but also thought they were expensive at £8 each. Coffees were excellent. The drinks were quite expensive too. Service very good.
Lovely quaint village pub, really nice atmosphere with very friendly staff.
I had the Sunday beef roast dinner and my mum the steak and ale pie.
Everything was delicious and very generous portion sizes.
We would definitely eat there again
Lovely lamb Sunday lunch, thought it was a little expensive but was very well presented and service was good. After our meal we went to sit on the riverbank with a cool refreshing drink.
My friends and I had a lovely Sunday lunch at The Cavendish Arms last weekend. The service was friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding. Beautifully presented, tasted great and good portions - would definitely recommend.
We enjoyed an excellent Sunday roast. Portions were generous and the veg beautifully cooked. Service was excellent. Will definitely return and would certainly recommend.
Really lovely staff, great atmosphere and fantastic food
First time we’ve dined here. Very good food and service. Fantastic setting too. Thanks!
Super meal as always. Great service snd friendly staff especially Paul.
No one even bothered to introduce themselves.
No one even bothered to even check if our meals were ok.
Two plates cleared then the other one left until I had to get someone’s attention to pay the bill.
Hey I am so sorry we fell short of our usual High standards , Please feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to listen to your comments ands make amends. Once again I'm sorry we got it wrong on this occasion and I do hope you will give us a second chance.
Been eating and drinking at the Cavandish for over 20 years. It's always excellent. Friendly and hard working staff. Very attentive and nothing is a problem. Very pleasant experience every time. The food is delicious!! Some may say its restaurant prices for a pub but I say it is restaurant quality for a pub!
Sunday Roast is becoming a must- sitting in the courtyard by the river- lovely!
First visit as it was recommended. Would return for another meal.
Excellent food, good service, all covid protocols followed, whats not to like
Our third visit in the last couple of weeks. compared to previous ,last night was a little disappointing. We appreciate that it had been a busy day, but still expect the usual standard that we have had previous.
Staff ignored us and were not friendly or helpful. menu was tiny, brought our mains before we finished our starters, food overall pretty bland. Cocktails overpriced and awful. Other guests were all complaining and some left before getting they’re food and the staff didn’t care or offer any apologies or discount even though they knew the experience was poor for their guests. Hopefully they sort their staff out ASAP as they had a lot of unhappy customers.
Thank you Danny for your comments, I am so sorry you were so disappointed during your visit and yes some times thing go wrong. But Please dont say we do not care as you clearly do not know us at The Cavendish very well. I have 500 characters to respond unlike reviews that are unlimited. During a hot day we all worked 14 hours to service all our diners, some who even verbally abused us , so please forgive us & maybe next time spare a thought for staff who are doing more than their best,
Busy. Suffered from this. We were allocated a small table for 2 to which 2 extra chairs were added. Menu was scrap of paper and not exciting . We were disappointed with the experience.
Excellent food and service, plus good music! Highly recommended
Excellent service and food 👍
We enjoyed our meal but the menu was not the same as the website which was disappointing. Also they didn’t have the Chianti we ordered off the menu but forgot to tell us . By the time we queried the non arrival of our wine , we’d almost finished our meal. We cancelled the wine order and without us having to complain, the manager came over, apologised and gave us a free drink . We would eat here again
