The Cellar Door
There are multiple rooms and floors to provide options for outdoor dining, private dining and larger group bookings.
The food is designed to match the relaxed dining environment, with the main focus on the use of seasonal and local produce, with menus changing monthly to reflect the freshest produce available. A 2 and 3 course set menu is available on a lunchtime and presents the opportunity for extremely good value for money, along with an a la carte menu running all day. Perfect for special occasions as well as regular relaxed dining.
Tucked away but out front for food. Wood Pigeon and Tuna Tartar starters we’re superb and Duck main brilliant.
Fantastic meal and our server Alex was wonderful - highly recommend
Lovely setting and the food was amazing. Staff were polite and friendly, will definitely be going again.
We really enjoyed our lunch at the Cellar Door, the food was delicious (my lamb and feta cheese meal was cooked to my liking and was a generous portion; my husband enjoyed his beef Wellington though felt there could have been more mushrooms), the waiting staff were attentive but not intrusive and we were able to sit outside, though I would have felt quite safe inside due to the distance between tables, mask wearing etc. if it had been bad weather. We will certainly be back and will recommend to family and friends.
Absolutely delicious food service was amazing could not do enough for yiu very attentive and professional
We had starter and a main both were really tasty and the yorkshire puddings are ernormous never seen them that big before
Lovely food and a good choice for vegetarians, good ambience and good service
Excellent evening at the Cellar Door. Food was really excellent quality and excellent and friendly service too. Definitely recommend a visit for anyone visiting Durham
First class food and service a hidden gem in Durham
Good food, well presented, very nice wine. Busier than last time we were here which was nice as ambience definitely better as a result.
The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, even providing a little birthday cake for my mother! A lovely atmosphere.
Excellent, quality dishes. Not the cheapest but obviously lot of care taken to provide the very best. Ideal for a very special occasion. We had lamb & duck mains and meringue & chocolate desserts which were exquisite. Service and environment great for any occasion.
Very enjoyable afternoon
Great food and very efficient staff. Would go again when in Durham
Had a lovely table by the window. The service was superb. Efficient, friendly but informal. The food was excellent. Both the mains and desert were very well presented, tasty and used good quality ingredients. Thoroughly recommended.
A lovely evening and our waitress could not have been more helpful. Food was excellent and though raining intermittently we sat outside under the umbrellas; great view down to the river.
Had a lovely meal for my wifes birthday. Booking a table was easy and all our requests were accommodated. Lovely staff, really engaging and friendly. Food was lovely, Could have done with slightly more sauce with starter but thats just personal taste, it was all cooked really well with just the right amount of time between courses.
Overall a lovely place to eat and really good value for money, my only regret was taking the car so I couldn't enjoy a glass of wine with my meal as they had a great selection. I will address that on my next visit
We had Sunday lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The quality of food was excellent. It was well presented and delicious. Value for money was also superb as were the staff
Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch. Three courses for £22!
The food was delicious 10/10
Our waitress Steph was wonderful. A genuine happy young lady. If ever we come back to Durham, we'll definitely be booking a table.
We Highly recommend the Cellar Door
We went for Sunday lunch and in short it was simply fabulous, the food was first class and well worth every penny. Will most definitely be back very soon!
I think this might be a symptom of the lack of staff in the hospitality industry, but we have been here 4 or 5 times before and never waited so long for our food. It was over an hour from ordering to receiving starters, and a further 30 mins from clearing them to receiving the main course. Apart from that, still as good as ever
Fabulous evening, delicious food and beautiful location.
Staff were very welcoming and very attentive, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable. The restaurant itself was clean and tidy. Have been here before and will most definitely be back :)
Had a birthday lunch, choose off set menu The scotch egg starter was amazing!!! We then had rump steak with triple cooked chips. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back.
Wonderful meal, excellent service, great wine list. Thanks for a really lovely lunch experience!
We opted for the a la carte menu. The coley mousse was lovely, the bed of samphire took some chewing. The tuna tartare was excellent. The lamb was cooked beautifully but the peas were rock hard! The desserts were very sweet but yummy. Staff were friendly and polite. Still very good but with a few tweaks it could be wonderful.
Lovely food and staff was our anniversary brought a complimentary plate of fruit and ice cream with happy anniversary on the plate
Pleasant surroundings and tasty food served with care and kindness by our waitresses, Katie and Jess, who were very knowledgeable about the food and drink and could not do enough for us. We had a delicious, relaxed anniversary lunch as a result. Thank-you.
The food was very nice and the waitresses were good but the food took ages, spoiling what would otherwise have been a good meal.
Best food we had on our trip to Durham. Once you get down the stairs from the street, the restaurant opens up. bright clean decor, and great service.
Really enjoyed our meal here, my only criticism would be the length of time between each course. The food was delicious when it arrived but the timings between each were a bit long for us. The waitresses were lovely and the overall ambiance was relaxed and welcoming.
Really lovely food and friendly service although it felt more like a cafe than a nice restaurant so I was a bit disappointed with that aspect, but the food was worth it and the staff produced a little treat for our son's birthday, which was a lovely touch and much appreciated.
Throughly enjoyed a very tasty dinner,
Would definitely return.
Fantastic food and service. This is the first time visiting here and it will not be the last.
The best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had
Outstanding food and drinks
Our lunch was outstanding. Excellent ingredients beautifully cooked. Fresh, bright, modern, sophisticated (not complicated) cooking. Whoever is in the kitchen knows exactly what they are doing and does it with great care. The service was very good too. We will certainly be back the next time we are in Durham.
Amazing service and food 2nd visit will definitely be back
Insane food, amazing service and the best Sunday dinner in the north east.
Service and food was great really enjoyed our visit will definitely be back
Amazing food, fantastic service in a beautiful setting, can’t recommend highly enough
