Excellent food and service. Highly recommend!
The Chef's Table is the best restaurant in Chester. We've been going at least 3 or 4 times a year for the last 4 years, every meal we've had has been different, exciting, delicious. It's just an amazing place.
This place is amazing. Lots of friends had been and loved it so I booked it for my husbands birthday. The food is outstanding and the boudin noir stuffed pigeon was one of the nicest meals I have ever had. We both had a great night and there's quite a lively buzz about the place as opposed to it being quiet or stuffy. We can't wait to go back.
Absolutely fabulous, only slight criticism make sure the table is level and not rocking.
The food and service was amazing.
We have eaten at Chefs Table several times, sometimes with friends, sometimes as a couple. The constantly changing menu never fails to disappoint, and the food quality, attention to detail and composition is outstanding.
The restaurant is small and only has about 30 covers. I believe this small format adds to the overall experience, as it feels intimate and special, I also believe it affords the kitchen the necessary time to serve dish after perfect dish in a well controlled and timely manner. This, in my view is their recipe for success.
The Chefs Table deserves all the plaudits it is getting right now. The food is consistently delicious and interesting. The service and ambience are charming. A delightful experience.
Amazing food, loved everything we ordered, great selection, just wasn’t keen on the wine list, would have liked a nice Gavi or Greco, maybe something similar perhaps??
The service was great, girls were lovely attentive and knowledgeable about he dishes.
Although a Friday lunch time the atmosphere was pleasant and not too loud.
We were there 2 hours, by then the chairs were becoming a little uncomfortable, but this would not put me off returning.
We look forward to dining at the Chefs table again very soon.
The third time I've been to Chef's Table and the food was as amazing as it has been each time. The great thing about this place is you are NEVER disappointed. The occasion was my daughter's and my son-in-law's birthdays so I took them to dinner. The food was sublime, service good. My only complaint (which I didn't voice - as it was too late by then) was that I had telephoned earlier in the day to ask if there was anything they could do to mark the two birthdays and they said they would put a candle in the desserts as they brought them out - they obviously didn't make a note and forgot to do it. I was sad about this - but it didn't detract from the fabulous meal. Anyone considering a meal at Chef's Table, do it - you won't regret it!
I was really looking forward to coming for my birthday meal. I booked the table a couple of months in advance and there were only 3 tables available- 2.30pm, 9.15pm, 9.30pm. We went for 9.15pm, although not really ideal.
We ordered the Gumbo to start, which was OK but we feel really needed to come with bread but unfortunately it didn’t. The restaurant didn’t have the red wine we wanted in stock, so we unfortunately had to order a different bottle.
The steak was nice and cooked well. However, when our ‘chocolate bomb’ dessert came it was massively over cooked and we had to return it. The waitress did comp the dessert, but we felt the meal overall was a let down on what was meant to be a birthday celebration.
My sister loves this place and I know that there are many fans, so I'm conscious I'm out of step, however I do think there are a few tweaks that would improve the experience massively. Here goes! This with was my first visit and we had a late slot on a Sat night. The place was full and had a nice buzz. The menu was interesting and well thought out. Pacing of courses was just right. The presentation, cooking and seasoning of each dish was very good, my lamb was perfectly cooked and delicious. Portion sizes, especially starters, are on the small size, fine for me but I know that my husband would have been disappointed. It was a bit odd that the house red was unavailable, a first! My main issue was with the ambience. I think the open kitchen needs some stronger extraction, the smell of frying was little unpleasant, although it did fade (or I got used to it). The restaurant furniture could do with an update, functional and dull, so seemed mismatched given the exciting food. The lighting too could do with a re-think, it was more gloomy than cosy. The staff were friendly and efficient, although maybe lacking in confidence and a coherent style would make a stronger impression (not a uniform, but a hipper look). It felt like a 'front of house' presence was missing, if the manager was working it wasn't obvious. Hope this feedback helps.
Went for lunch on recommendation and had a gorgeous meal. The staff were attentive and charming. Totally recommend.
Our first visit to the Chef’s Table following a recommendation. The food was excellent and pretty good value at lunchtime. The staff were also very helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed it.
Great restaurant in Chester with orginal and non-standard flavours ! I definitely recommend it.
This is one of Chester’s hidden jewels. The food is always delicious with beautiful presentation.
It has a relaxed feel and the staff are always super nice. Love the fact that the menu changes regularly.
We rate the food at Chefs Table highly and would probably visit more often but the overall experience is not satisfactory. Noise is the main issue but also the small tables very close to each other. (At least the chairs are more comfortable than they first were)
All that aside, the food is delicious and often quite inventive. One of the best places in Chester.
Best restaurant in Chester. Wonderful food as always.
We have been so excited to try the Chef’s Table for a long time so we booked dinner for my boyfriend’s birthday...and we were not disappointed. The whole experience was fantastic - the service, the food, the ambience, the presentation - just wonderful! Our friends were visiting from Barcelona and often eat at beautiful restaurants all over Europe but they were so impressed to find the this level of quality and experience right here in little old Chester! We will 100% be back very soon! Thank you so much for a brilliant night 💕
Wonderful food, as always. Great service, friendly, and nothing was too much trouble.
An innovative Summer menu with plenty of choice for Vegans and Vegetarians. The food was well presented and tasted divine.
The non alcoholic cordials are delicious.
Staff attentive and friendly.
Really enjoyed everything about our visit! Amazing food, great service and lovely wine!
Amazing food as always and great service thank you, but as a couple, we were having a rare precious night out at our favourite restaurant and there was an exceptionally loud large party of people that arrived shortly after we did. The noise at times as unacceptably disturbing so much so that my husband and I could not even hold our own conversation as it was so loud. This did spoil the experience for us sadly on this occasion.
We had a lovely meal everything was excellent . It was good to be able to drink organic wine too. Thankyou
The meal was fantastic from start to finish. Each stage of the meal was fresh, tasty and well presented. I had octopus starter which was tender, succulent lamb main and a rich chocolate fondant for desert. The staff were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is modern but cosy and relaxed. It is good value for the high quality of the cooking on offer.
As always, it lived up to its reputation as best restaurant in Chester (and further afield).
The menu is concise, and every dish perfectly prepared, using some of the most interesting ingredients. With a friendly atmosphere, this is the perfect place for a celebration meal, or any other excuse!
Eat there several times and yet to be dissapointed. Good choice of different foods well prepared and presented.
Service excellent food good not the best we've had lamb a little tough ! Overall we had a lovely evening a d will visit again .
Sensational and great value for money. The service was excellent.
Excellent vegan menu! Never had a better vegan meal! Unique flavours and dishes, props to the chef! Will book again soon.
This was my second visit to the restaurant 1year apart and every thing was perfect.been in a lot of high class restaurants and this one was up there with the best of them and beats them hands down on value. Will be back next time I am in Chester.
This was my third visit to the chefs table and as ever it did not disappoint. The three course lunch was outstanding and amazing value for money! Can’t wait to go back!
Gets better with every visit! Would highly recommend the chefs table.
This was a very interesting meal with different choices of ingredients from the norm.My grand-daughter and i thoroughly enjoyed both the meal and the very attentive and polite staff.
Food was fabulous. Seasonal, contemporary, delicious & so tasty. Great vegan options too. Staff were great. Lovely eve.
Not our first visit and definitely won't be our last! Fantastic food and service at a reasonable price. Great for special occasions and a casual affair. We can't fault this place, and would recommend a visit to anyone if you can get a table! It's worth the wait!
I have been several times recently and the over all product, service and price are 8.5 out of 10 to 10 out of 10. Thats why what I am about to write needs to be taken on board as an observation that may lead to improvement and not criticism.
Slightly more attention required to filling empty wine glasses.
Current waitresses need to engage a little bit more with patrons.
A little less chat behind the bar and more detailed scanning of tables, as service does not flow quite as well as it should, or has over previous years.
Music slightly too loud. As the restaurant is compact and busy, competing with other dinners is hard enough without having to also compete with back ground music. People come for the fantastic food and service, not the music.
Coffee needs improvement quickly. Black coffee too hot, far too weak and presented far too full, impossible to drink for 10 minutes and a spoiler to the rest of the meal. Such a shame but far from a disaster. A better quality coffee bean and a greater amount of coffee needs to be used. Coffee should be rich and full of flavour not boiling and wishy washy.
Over my last three visits the food has varied slightly. It has varied between and 8.5 out of 10 to a 9.7 out of 10. Consistency needs to be more consistent!
Flavours, presentation and combination of product used in dishes excellent on my last visit.
Is it my imagination or have the wine prices nudged up a little too much. Be careful. I would buy two £30 bottles of wine but not two £45 bottles of wine. The right balance needs to be struck between profit margin and turnover. Sauvignon Blanc should not start at £45, irrespective of the currency exchange rate.
My guests (of which there were three) were all very impressed by the whole dining experience especially the food. They did all comment on the coffee though.
I hope these comments are used constructively.
Service was attentive leaving enough time between courses before enquiring if you want more. Therefore we never felt hurried or forgotten. The food was well presented and lived up to all of the reviews that we had read. When we phoned to book they were not able to take our call but they did ring us back, as promised, to confirm our booking.
Sadly we live too far away to be able to eat regularly at the Chef’s Table but we enjoyed celebrating our special occasion in such a pleasant location.
Excellent service matched by the food. Our waitress though young was very knowledgable about both food and wine. All staff were friendly and professional.
Good variety of choices on the menu though the red wine choice was small unless you ordered by the bottle not the glass.
Over all a very good experience, will definitely eat here again.
This was our second visit to the Chef's Table and we couldn't be happier with it! The food again was outstanding, we visited during lunch and the menu selection was amazing and at a very reasonable price. I cannot recommend this place enough. Anytime a friend or colleague tells me they are going to visit Chester, I tell them to go to Chef's Table. I am definitely coming back next time I am in Chester! This place is as great as the reviews say!
First time here, excellent food and service, lunch very good value indeed. My only gripe as a fish-lover was that there were no fish starters, brilliant veggie/vegan choices though. Then when I ordered the cod(lovely) the menu changed and the next table had turbot, my favourite fish! Highly recommended!
Overall the food was up to the usual high standard, the wine was also very good and the service excellent. One guest struggled with dessert containing the liquorice ice cream and didn’t enjoy the flavour or balance to the rest of the dish.
But, it’s still a well done!
