   We had a fantastic meal at The Chequers. I loved the decor, friendly staff and the choice of menu and drinks. The cinnamon doughnuts were delicious, as was my English Garden cocktail! Definitely a place for a special occasion as it is quite pricey - especially when the main meals don’t come with vegetables or potatoes. The side portions were huge though so I would worry about how much food is wasted. Not sure about the mounted deer heads - I’d rather they weren’t there. A great experience and I would recommend it if you’re looking for good food and classy atmosphere.

   Me and my partner went to The Chequers for our Anniversary. I ordered the sausage and mash, which is my favourite dish, and my partner ordered the steak, onion rings and mac’n’cheese. All dishes were lovely and the staff are very welcoming. Safe to say we will be going back.

   Mid week dinner was excellent - we had a later 2030 booking and had drinks before dinner (superb local gin and cocktails) were well looked after and seated to eat. Food outstanding and well presented but also healthy and tasty. Soft shell crab special too. It topped the end of a tough day for us but this all went away with the atmosphere, service and food. Can’t recommend the Chequers enough.

   The food was good but it was y expensive. Ordering chips as extra to go with steak is unexpected. Maybe increase the cost slightly and include chips and salad.

    We chanced upon The Chequers and were not at all disappointed. The service was excellent, the pub itself is really lovely and the food was fantastic. We stayed the night too and have no complaints about the room. A really great weekend and we will definitely be back!

    Cold food, poor choice for alternative diets and no childrens menu. Polite but very poorly trained staff. I've always wanted to eat here but I was very disappointed and will not be returning.

    Thank you for your experience feedback. I've had the chance to speak with the team and while we do not currently have a dedicated breakfast menu for children, our team did explain that we could offer children's portions from the current menu. We do offer choices for alternative diets and I believe that you were served a vegan breakfast. Regarding your feedback about poorly trained staff; the other positive reviews we received make me think that we are doing something right.

    Lovely venue and excellent service, nice atmosphere. Wine was very good. For main I ordered fish pie which was full of flavour and a decent portion if a little rich for my taste.

    Very expensive. Ordered a steak and mushroom pie. It was hard, very dry and contained 2 pieces of dry meat and no mushrooms. Was served on a plate with nothing else apart from a small pot of onion gravy and a huge steak knife which was needed as the pastry was pretty much inedible. Triple cooked chips side were very dry. Others in party had the special which was a potato topped fish pie at 'Market Price' which turned out to be £22.50 each! Total lunch (1 course) for 3 was over £100. Was not appropriate to complain as this was a business lunch.

Reading your comment, I don't believe that at the time of your visit, that any of our service team were made aware of any issues you might have had with the food. Usually when diners bring something to our attention, we do our utmost to accommodate them. All our menus are published on our website so that diners can see our offering before they visit.

    Amazing service, beautiful surroundings and decor and the food was delicious for a good price. The only hang ups if I was pushed to say would be that there was a little too much pepper on the prawn cocktail and there wasn’t much time to get over one course before the next was brought out. Although I’m sure if we’d have mentioned it they would have completely obliged!

    Been here a few years ago and returned for my fathers birthday. Standard was high years ago and have not slipped at all. Amazing quality of food, attentive fast service and you can even plug in your car to charge. Brilliant!

    Great food. Breakfast was tasty. BUT the bill was over £19 for a full English with one slice of toast and one sausage. Service was great and food delicious but not a lot of it and expensive for what it was.

    Great food, great atmosphere, although we both thought the duck could have been less pink, our preference, not a complaint. We did think the table service charge should be omitted from the bill to give us the discrepancy of choosing the value given.

The restaurant is an old building and in keeping with the ambience, we prefer not to have very bright lights but can understand how customers might find it a little dark inside. When you visit again, you can request to sit in the Gallery area as that's a newer part & has more windows.

    We had Easter Sunday lunch at the Chequers and as usual, it was such a lovely experience. It never fails to surprise me how attentive the staff always are, we were served by a number of people and each one was courteous and patient, and super helpful. Even as we left, other staff asked us how everything was and wished us a happy Easter. The food was outstanding, but it always is. We had a such a wonderful afternoon. The perfect way to share a meal with friends in the sunshine. Keep doing what you do, it is such a pleasure to find somewhere that still has that atmosphere.

    Really nice meal, sat down at 1355 starter5 mins later really nice, had roast beef, which they cooked how I wanted it (thanks) , too full for sweet. All fed in 35 mins , thanks again, will definitely return.

    The staff were brilliant and attentive. It was my birthday and we had a great time. I was given a happy birthday “plate” which consisted of some little desserts and happy birthday written on the plate in chocolate. The food was very yummy and the restaurant itself has amazing decor and good vibe.

    The food overall was excellent but I did find the gluten free options limiting. For example there were speciality sausages which were not gluten free. Is this because they contain cereals? If so then not particularly special. The gluten free bread with the pate was very good but the crumble was merely oats and sugar sprinkled over fruit - no rice flour or alternative. My dining companions without specific dietary requirements were very happy with their meals.

    We visited the Chequers for the first time recently for Sunday Lunch. Excellent food and prompt attentive service. However we found it very noisy and a little lacking in character. We were also surprised at being charged £10 for a medium glass of rose wine! The 12.5% mandatory service charge was also a bit steep. Ended up paying a little under £100 for a couple of 2 course lunches which is a bit off putting.
