Another great Sunday lunch in the gatden
Well laid out for social distancing. Was very quiet so could benefit from playing music for ambiance. No baby changing facilities although they were very accommodating with finding a quiet place to change him.
Food was good, the pigs in blankets were particularly tasty. Service was good although we had to ask for menus and drinks.
Location by the river is lovely if you have a courtyard table.
For me to leave an honest review would’ve involved us being acknowledged once we had sat at our table we didn’t even get given a menu and after 10 minutes of not being seen to or even acknowledge we decided to leave so the review is just based off of the fact that the service although in a busy period of time I understand was poor. The view and the food that everybody else had on their tables look really good but unfortunately he was not the only ones complaining about the long wait and not being acknowledged by the waitress.
We sat outside as it was a warm day, there were 6 of us but no one else was near. The staff were efficient and welcoming, our food all came out together and it was lovely and not overpriced. Very pleasant experience all round.
Starters were amazing as was fish and chips.
Steak was well cooked but mainly all fat so couldn't eat much of it. Chips where a tad hard for something that is meant to be triple cooked
Love this Pub but the first visit since re-opening the bread that comes with the Moules mariniere came almost 5 mins after we pointed out it was missed and the dish nearly eaten. Second visit , Fish and Chip Thursday, the requested extra Coleslaw didn’t get served at all and the chips not as hot as I would have liked , HOWEVER it hasn’t put us off and we look forward very much to our next visit.
Staff very attentive food was lovely and very reasonably priced would definitely recommend
Great restaurant! We had a lovely time. Would definitely come back!
Another great Sunday lunch with the family with usual good food and great service. Already booked tables for Saturday and Sunday next weekend.
Food was banging, staff are lovely and polite , wonderful pub
Unfortunately not disabled friendly. No disabled toilet. Outside area bench seating again not for anyone with mobility problems. Poor social distancing too many dinners. Staff very disorganised was asked 4 times to go to carvery when had ordered from main menu. Waited 1 hour for starter and a further hour for main. Food was nice when it arrived.
Difficult times just opening after lockdown, but service seemed like all staff were new. All very lovely staff and food was nice
Food was very good quality, good choice and didnt leave hungry. Nice view over the river, need to book as terrace is quite small. Overall Good value for money..
Great chance to get out locally for a bit of food after lockdown! Thanks to you all for all your hard work!
Was the worse service I’ve ever experience very unhappy
First country pub dining experience after Covid19 lockdown left bad taste and disappointment...
Starting with social distancing guidance... that definitely wasn't on the agenda of the pub... although bookings were staggered to allow social distancing, when we arrived member of staff tried sitting us at the table between bar and pub garden that everyone was squeezing past as there was no other alternative route. Second table we were offered was not only small that you could not squeeze two plates and bottle of wine on it, but also was next to occupied table for six withing less than a meter distance.
Member of staff that sat us down wanted to know drink order straight away without giving menu option.
When I asked for wine and food menu, he brought it back 10 min later. Ordered Shiraz that was recommended, but received Cabernet Sauvignon after further 10 min wait. Asked for still water, but that wasn't available. Had to settle for tap water instead. Received food menu 10 min after that. Our food order was finally taken after nearly 45 min later. Restaurant had only 3 tables that were being served at that time... When I went to pur water I saw something floating in it despite caraf having cork top. When I showed it to the member of staff and asked for sparkling water instead I got apology and comment: glasses were washed today, but things happen...
Our starter arrived 30 min after placing an order. Prawns and squid were very tasty and nicely presented. We received finger bowls, shame water was freezing cold...
During the meal we were approached by lovely but clearly unexperienced waitress who asked if we wanted more drinks failing to notice that there was still half full bottle of wine on the table, who then proceed to collect the glasses and had to be stopped and explained that we still have wine that we are drinking. Main course mussels, fries and French baguette was tasty despite fries being cold and baguette looked and tasted like ciabatta....
Nice casual smart pub, descent food and good value. I like the fact they have Neck Oil on tap.
The overall appearance and first impressions of the carvery area was poor. Although some of the meat was plentiful, the veg was very poor. The broccoli dish was empty, the carrots looked as though they had been there overnight (shrivelled and dry) and nobody was touching them, and there was a little bit of red cabbage (I think that's what it was) right at the bottom of a dish, but that looked very unappetising, and finally there was only just enough gravy in the bowl for my husband and I. The tongs were so hot that we couldn't touch them and had to ask for them to be replaced. It seems that the whole restaurant was being run by young teenagers, who were not experienced enough to know about first impressions and making sure that the dishes were topped up and looking appetising. There was a table of about 12 that came in just after us and it was only then they took to putting out more food. It is not somewhere I would go again.
There were five of us we ordered 5 starters which were lovely. Only four main courses arrived after a few minutes I asked where mine was and the waiter said “on its way”. After another 5 minutes “on its way” eventually the waiter asked what I had ordered I said sea bass and he said so sorry it will 10 minutes. By this time my family were at least halfway through their meals so I cancelled my main course. The waiter then said how wonderful they were to be taking my main course off the bill!!!! Of course it would be taken off I hadn't received it!!!! This ruined a nice birthday celebration.
It was very busy but was a Sunday lunch. Booked table for 2pm and was seated about 2.10 and then told we would have to be gone by 3pm but we refused and nothing else was said to us about leaving early. The service was good and food enjoyable. Enjoyable afternoon but I have also been there midweek and found the food and whole experience a lot better. I would recommend this place but also think they need more options for vegetarians
4 of us had the Sunday car very, food was so good. Best roast I had in a long time.
Great pub, friendly atmosphere and staff were enthusiastic and helpful. Food was very nice and reasonably priced. The only negative was the table we were sat at was sticky, needed a better wipe but it won’t put us off....we’ll be going back again soon.
Was quite disappointed at being charged £10.50 for a very small camembert starter. It was a special so didnt ask the price. And the steak baguette was inedible as the steak was far too tough. I admit they asked if all was ok and I didnt speak up so didnt give them a chance to rectify - my friend had the same and struggled to eat hers as well.
Such a shame ad the waiting staff are great and the ambience lovely
we arrive got put on a table right next to a big group so was ask to move had a cavary which was not very nice the veg look like it had been out for a long time the broccoli could be thrown away would not go back at all
It was Christmas week and we went for a roast it was busy nobody came to tell us to go up for the Roast.
The guy who was carving was cutting very thick slices so ended with one and abit slices the cauliflower cheese was lovely .Carrots were hard .It was a Birthday meal and have dined there before abit disappointing
Great carvery on a Sunday
When we arrived they didn’t have our reservation although I’d had an email from opentable the day before asking me to confirm my booking which i did. Luckily they fitted us in! So not sure what happened there perhaps that should be looked into. Were seated by the gents toilet which wasnt a good start but then managed to get moved which they were happy to do. I do realise space is limited but as we were taking friends who had never been there before wasn’t perhaps a good first impression. Once we were moved the food was delicious along with the service.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch, food was good but not all items were out meaning half my party was unable to have roast potatoes with their roast. Service was a little slow. Instead of checking if the whole table needed drinks one was taken at a time meaning several trips for them. Not a lot of attention took many attempts to get the bill, we then said we were splitting it and they automatically spilt it their way even though we had explained we knew how much each wanted to pay.
We arrived for our pre booked table with two friends and were looking forward to our festive meal. 40 minutes later we were still waiting for our table....half of the restaurant was filled with people watching football! Finally they said our table was ready. However, they had just put two tiny round tables together next to where the football was being shown! We gave up and went home and got a takeaway! Don't know what went wrong as we usually don't have any problems there. Another group who had managed to get their food were not happy and were refusing to pay as the food had been terrible. Still, our takeaway was great 😁
We attended for the Monday burger night absolutely delicious and well worth the two for £15.00 would return again
Lovely Sunday Carvery, but was ver salty, which left 2 of the party unable to eat it, the only thing that let it down was the service , waited 45 minutes for our pre booked table, very long wait for starter had to go to the bar to get drinks that had been ordered with the waitress, and had to get up to find the desert menu, as waitress never came back with it, staff very young and appeared like they really didn’t want to be there, the bar man was very helpful, having said that we would return hoping that things may be better and not so salty, maybe let diners season their own meals to prevent over seasoning
Have been looking to come here for a number of years and finally made it, well, we were not disappointed, from our arrival to departure, everything was perfect. The service was super attentive and we were well looked after. We had the Carvery and a dessert and it was absolutely fantastic, very tasteful and plentiful. We will definetly be returning again to sample your daily menu and I will recommend you to others for a visit.
Good food, timed the vegetables wrong as not much left when I went to the counter. But tasty food anyway
Great food, reasonably priced. Would recommend, great family pub.
Lovely carvery roast and home made trifle will be back 👍
Not particularly busy as we were early. Great service fantastic food even had the opportunity to speak with the chef who was absolutely lovely as was the barman/waiter.
Lovely evening no loud drinkers great
Very poor slow service for the 2nd time eating in this pub. 1st time we arrived at 7.30pm and got our main course at 9.30pm.
On Sunday we were seated on a small round table in front of the servery which was actually the walkway to the carvery. We were constantly nudged by patrons going to get their lunch. It became very embarrassing as many remarks and apologies were made by the customers.
We were unable to stay for a 2nd drink or a pudding. The response upon complaining was that a manager was unavailable and a message would be left for him to call us back. As yet 3 days later, no phone call.
On both occasions we booked a table in advance so no excuse!
Very disappointing, we will not return again.
Lovely Sunday roast cavery really enjoyed meal but thought £10 for a large glass of wine was a bit steep
Excellent service, well presented and flavoursome food, lovely evening out
Had a family lunch here and was very pleased with the whole experience and so were all our party. Great friendly service and lovely surroundings. Lovely out on the terrace for a look at the old Aylesford bridge, although not brave enough to eat out there in October. Food was superb and good value. Nice selection of beers and wine. Would definitely recommend this olde worlde pub in a lovely historic village setting. You can park in the high street if you are lucky but there are 2 car parks at the end of the high street, just a few minutes walk away.
