Fantastic food and service from the minute we stepped in to the minute we left. Lamb was out of this world. Price reflects the standard of the restaurant, but you won’t be disappointed.
Good food , well served on time.
Enjoy the restaurant and quality of food.
In summary great food and wine but overpriced and very pretentious and rude owners.
We booked via Open Table and on the confirmation nothing was mentioned re dress code. It was a hot day and one of our party was in a polo shirt , tailored shorts and shoes. We were seated in restaurant but then waiter said owner said we had to eat in bar due to the shorts being worn. I went to see him and showed my confirmation that didn't mention a dress code but he was adamant I should have known . I asked him to show me where it stated this and after about 10 minutes he found it on his web site....I stated that if it was that important a customer shouldn't have to dig out the info! He was very rude and condescending and wouldn't budge despite us pointing out customers in jeans , plimsolls and round next tee shirts in the restaurant who weer decidedly scruffier than our party !!
Because we had travelled and paid the deposit which was non refundable we had to move to the bar though we would rather have left!!
Despite this we had a pleasant evening afterwards , the waiter was superb and the food was excellent although very pricey for what it was and the Chef was also super cool. The wine list was very extensive but again very pricey with the lowest cost bottle at 28 , and only a few at this level and rising very steeply after this.
Yet again a fantastic evening! Great food! Great ambiance! Great service! What more could you want!!
My wife and I had the tasting menu with wine flight and were not disappointed. Absolutely everything was amazing. Surely this is a restaurant worthy of a Michelin star!
This is a lovely place for a special meal. The service is outstanding and the staff are friendly and professional. We had the tasting menu which was lovely. The reason for four stars for the food is that we didn’t enjoy one course but I think that was just our personal taste, the rest was delicious. Will definitely return.
Lovely food but for the price the portions are absolutely tiny. We have been to other fine dining style restaurants at the same price tag and would choose to go to others over the chequers inn when it comes to value for money.
Service was good. We would come back for drinks.
Amazing food as always. Great with gluten free offerings
Exceptional service and the food is to die for. Dining from the a la carte menu, the Raviolo was delicious and the Cornish Cod dish had exceptional flavours - all beautifully presented. My wife had the Hake starter and the lamb main and was silent as both course dishes were fully cleaned - a compliment to the food indeed. The two serving staff did an exceptional job throughout. If you are in the area and are happy t pay the price for fine dining, then look no further than this place!
Always a superb meal
Lovely setting. Good service . Excellent food . Would highly recommend this friendly restaurant.
The Chequers is undoubtedly the best restaurant we have been to. I think I'm going to say ever. The food is simply outstanding. I cannot express enough how much you can taste the passion that goes into creating these works of art that we consume. I am honestly not overstating here. From the delicately flavoured creamy amuse bouche all the way through to the beautifully built layered panna cotta we felt spoiled and privileged to be able to experience such wonderful food. And who doesn't love being spoiled! If there is a magic formula to restaurants, then Dritan and Ranka have it. The building is superbly cared for and has a personal feel to it, everything was squeaky clean, the service beyond any expectation. Having spent my work life going to well known restaurants in London I feel I'm well equipped to say The Chequers is head and shoulders above. We came out of here last night, having not visited for some time, satiated, warmed, happy, content and asking ourselves why we don't go more often! We will be.
Food and service were refined and excellent. Friendly staff made you feel comfortable yet still a sense of occasion. Highly recommended.
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. The menu is professionally presented and explained and the variety of dishes is exceptional. The duck and cheese board was a particular favourite of mine.
Excellent menu choices including a snack starter. Good wine list. Always a warm welcome.
We had the tasting menu which was good value for money and contained some wonderful dishes. We particularly enjoyed the chicken liver parfait and the pistachio and basil palette cleanser as they were both quite unusual. All staff were lovely and the restaurant had a great atmosphere and look. We will definitely go again!
Excellent reception, quiet atmosphere, very good food, as always
Calm, classic pub environment. Ambitious menu with fixed menu choices (1-2-3 courses) or a la carte. Good quality food. You will need sides to make up the small size of the main courses I saw.
Great food and nice ambience, would recommend. reasonably priced too.
Great food and service, as always , high quality, creatively and attractively presented
Best restaurant in the area by a long way if your looking for fine dinning.
We ate here back in 2018 and promised we’d go back. It’s taken us a while but we’re so pleased we did.
We chose the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairings. It was all delicious but the highlight was the lamb. Yes it’s not the cheapest place to eat but it’s well worth a visit once in a while.
Nice ambience, varied menu , efficient staff and the hake starter with strawberries delish . Everything you want from a relaxing gastro pub .
Changed my opinion to British food.
First time back to one of our favourite places and it is as fantastic as ever !
The food is simply delicious and always some exciting twists on the menu. The team are excellent and always lovely to see Dritan and Ranka FoH
Nicley busy when we were there so a great atmosphere for grown up
Cant wait to go back again v soon *
Delighted to return to The Chequers, which is a beautiful, historic building in peaceful surroundings. Really enjoyed the set lunch menu with a glass of rose wine. The starter and dessert in particular were amazing, innovative and delicious. Will return!
Wonderful service from the moment we arrived. Sat outside which was just the right temperature.
Food was delicious
A lovely meal to celebrate my husbands birthday. Very welcoming, clean, and great tasting food and wine. Seasonal menu with on trend recipes and ingredients cooked very well, a special treat.
If I’m being picky it did get a little cold in the restaurant, I’m assuming they were keep the place well ventilated due to covid but I did have to wear my jacket from main onwards. Did not distract from a lovely meal though
Superb, imaginative food and excellent service. One of the best vegetarian meals I have ever eaten. The Chequers Inn is easily the best place to eat in the area.
Lovely surprise … we happened on this gastro pub as had to drop something off in Tring so booked online and found this place. What a find. Excellent food, ambiance and wine. Will definitely return
A very enjoyable evening.
Perfect service, delicious food excellent wine list.
What a wonderful restaurant. Very nicely presented with lovely ambiance. Tasty well thought out and executed dishes each one delivering a burst of flavours. The owners and staff are most friendly and knowledgable about the dishes. A great find we will be back very soon.
A little village gem, first visit for us, decided to make a booking without any expectations and we came away very happy and contented. We would definitely visit again. Thank you to the team for a great evening.
Gorgeous food & great service. Portion sizes rather small & prices a little steep.
This is the best food in the area. The Chequers is not a pub but a true gourmet restaurant.
Set Lunch was outstanding as always
The food was simply outstanding. I can’t believe that this place isn’t Michelin starred (unless it is and I missed something??). Simply first class food, probably the best I have had for years.
Without doubt the best dining experience in the Aylesbury area. Professional without being starchy and a tempting eclectic menu
The food is always excellent at The Chequers Inn. The beef was especially good, perfectly cooked & very tender. A really lovely lunch!
Fabulous lunch in every way. It is such a pleasure to eat at this restaurant. Such a welcoming environment. The quality of the food is exceptional as well as extremely gluten free friendly. Booked for lunch another day on the way out. Feel very fortunate to live locally to The Chequers Inn.
Perfect food and the service was just enough to be attentive but not too intrusive. I’ve been eating here for years and it’s consistently amazing. I love this place for the calm atmosphere and the excellent food. It’s clearly run extremely well and just so lovely to see it open again. I’m thrilled for this little local treasure.
