Overall I’m hugely impressed with the Cherry Tree and have been for a main meal and loved it but on this second visit I had afternoon tea and it wasn’t as impressive as I had hoped given the efforts made in other areas.

The afternoon tea menu does not give you a drinks selection so when the server asks you want you would like you don’t know can’t answer! I was surprised a place of this calibre does not offer loose leaf tea, but more than that why not more non-caffeinated options besides peppermint, which is a marmite option? Redbush (roobios) would be good or another flavoured tea - a berry perhaps for people who don’t want caffeine or can’t have it for medical reasons?

Also, the brews were brought out well before the food. This in itself is fine however only one teapot is included (not mentioned on the menu) and the teapots only hold 1.5 cups if that which is gone by the time sandwiches are half eaten :( The afternoon tea price is quite low so charging a little more and making refills free would be reasonable.

The sandwiches were tasty but simple despite how they sound on the menu.

Some of the sweet options were drowned in - was it flour or icing sugar? We held them at an angle and tapped. The mounds that ended up on the plate each time was eye opening. The scones were fab!

Sponge tasted fine but it was dense and disappointing.

The flapjacks were WAY too syrupy making them unpleasantly soft.

There is also a curious obsession with putting cress, LOTS of cress, on nearly everything on the menu - it happened the last time even on desserts and afternoon tea didn’t escape this time either!

The decor/ambience etc... is wonderful <3

This is meant to be constructive as I believe a place a impressive as the Cherry Tree should offer a top notch afternoon tea that holds its own in comparison to the other menu options.

We wouldn’t let this stop us from returning, we just wouldn’t opt for afternoon tea again nor recommend it unless it changes.

The Cherry Tree is currently our favourite Restaraunt in the area, the new renovations have been done extremely well, and add favourably to the whole Restaraunt experiEnce.

The decor is bright, light, and extremely welcoming, as are the staff, couple this with extremely good food, and you have a recipe for success.

Our first visit and we loved it!

The food and service was excellent, the drinks can bump up the bill but the cocktails were great.

We will definitely be returning.
Thanks

Yet again we had great food, service and surroundings.
Excellent Vegan option for myself but others enjoyed dishes from the varied and interesting menu.
The staff were helpful and friendly- Once seated we asked to be moved and we were accommodated - nothing negative about the new extension area, just we preferred the ambiance of the original seating - just our personal preference. Nothing is too much trouble, the staff go above and beyond and the professionalism shows, would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

A bit disappointed. First time after revamp and it was ok. Refit lovely, table clean and decent menu. Starters were delicious but one was served on a tiny saucer (for £8 that was disappointing). Drinks came out after the starters arrived. Mains were good, my hubby had fish and chips which were great and i opted for the Sunday lunch which was ok. Yorkshire batter wasn't mixed properly so powdery inside, there was a tiny gravy pot, 1 large carrot and 2 very mediocre roast potatoes.. They were more like boiled as hadn't browned at all. Kids enjoyed theirs but we ordered an extra chips which took over 45m to arrive after all other dishes. Waitress was pleasant but nobody asked at any point if we wanted any more drinks so they missed out. Desserts were not great in all honest. They were served on a bed of crushed, tasteless biscuits which jusy got in the way. Our youngest daughter couldn't eat her ice cream as they were stuck all over it and all she wanted was a simple plain ice cream and 1 scoop even for a tot was £3.50. Sticky toffee pud was a major disappointment. Was expecting more, sauce was nice but the dish itself just wasn't as expected. Choc brownie again was just ok, nothing to write home about. Served with a tiny strawberry which was delicious.. That was the best bit for me! The bill waa wrong as not everything was put through on the Sunday specials menu.. All promptly sorted but they should check before issuing. All in all we expected more from the best restaurant in Bolton.
Slightly underwhelming and won't be rushing back. Can get a much better Sunday lunch elsewhere that won't cost over £100 for 2 adults, 1 child and a toddler.

The experience was Ok ... welcomed by an older blonde lady who didn’t smile or speak on arrival!! Decoration was
Lovely but I was cold & sat in a draft, wore my coat throughout eating!! Service was ok & food was ok but not very tasty although presentation was lovely. Not enough gravy & no staff came to ask us if we wanted anything else as all busy ... it was an ok experience but feel it lacked atmosphere.

Went for a birthday meal, we’d originally booked an outside table but we were fortunate enough to get there a bit earlier and sit in the bar area inside instead. All of the staff were attentive and keen to help, the food was lovely and amazing value for money. My first visit and will definitely be coming back as soon as possible.

As always food incredible - the service wasn’t great this time. Waiting for drinks and having to ask numerous times for the bill. It’s my second time since restaurant has been extended and I just don’t think the service is as good as it was before. Not sure if something has changed with the way service is arranged now but staff don’t seem as attentive as before.

First visit here but it won’t be the last, lovely food, my husband was especially taken with the smoked spring onions in his lamb dish, and great ambiance. Good social distancing with clear plastic barriers between tables. A very small criticism was that the waiters/waitresses didn’t wear any kind of mask/face guard and got a little too close in my opinion, other restaurants I’ve been to recently put the food, cutlery etc at the ends of tables in order to maintain a safe distance. Having said that it won’t stop us visiting again.
