The Coach & Horses
Visited before a Leyton Orient game as pub is yards from the stadium. Great pub very lively. Thankful we'd booked a table for lunch as it was heaving by then
Love this gastric pub, but I think they should serve cocktails like lychee martini, pornstar martini and pina colada then I know I would go more often.
Staff were nice but it was busy and service was EXTREMELY slow. Not enough staff on.
The food was ok. Big portions, we went for Sunday Lunch, the roast potatos and yorkshire puddings were cold , hard and not very tasty. The puddings were nice but had to wait an hour after our main course to get them. We had to ask a few times for the bill.
Also the table was extremely sticky. The waitress sad she would wipe it down but didn't.
I think it could have been nice if it was on a quiet Sunday, but they are not geared up to deal with busy days.
Hi Connie, apologies for the slowness of Sunday's service, we had a couple of staff unavailable due to sickness and we got caught on the hop by the first really busy day of the roast season with a lot of walk-ins. We've adjusted accordingly for the coming weekends to make sure we reach our usual levels of service.
Roast dinner was abysmal, cold,no flavour, looked like the chef had totally given up,first time there for food and definitely my last, luckily the manager didn’t ask us to pay as she was and looked embarrassed of the shabby work of the chef, who looked more like a car mechanic when he came out into the restaurant,we were really looking forward to this only to be blatantly let own
Apologies for your experience on Sunday 29th September which was a day that really doesn't reflect our usual standards. We were a couple of staff down due to illness and got caught off guard by the number of walk ins for the first really busy roast of the season which then slowed the kitchen dramatically. Our head chef is excellent and has been getting consistently great feedback, but unfortunately last Sunday moved beyond his control. Apologies again that you didn't get our usual Sunday.
The menu has greatly improved and the dishes were excellent. This is a comfortable and attractive pub with friendly(if at times slow) staff. However on our visit a large group of small children were allowed to run around screaming and even use scooters(!) around the tables. This was not only dangerous as staff were trying to wait tables but also very annoying to try and have a relaxing meal and conversation. The parents seemed oblivious to the racket.
We would not consider returning had we not noticed the area at the front of the pub seemed less of a playground and much quieter.
Thanks for the review. Really glad you enjoyed the food, we are family friendly but take your point if it got too much. We do encourage parents to keep the little ones under control, but will keep more of an eye on it.
They've nailed it here. Great food and atmosphere. Don't change anything!
Excellent vegetarian nut roast for Sunday lunch. We'd go again.
Staff very attentive and great toast 👍
We did wait a while for it to come out though
I've been here twice and the first time was so good I came back. but it turns out the service is inconsistent. It took forever for our order to be taken. Then I was asked what I'd like to order, despite not even been given a menu to make a selection from and then it took an hour for the food to arrive from the point that order was finally taken. It wasn't particularly busy so can't see much reason for it. However the quality of the food remained good, we were very hungry by that point though.
Lovely roast and really great staff. Couldn’t fault it.
Great - though at the end of the day no roasts left, so need to get there early for a delightful meal!
The staff are really friendly and helpful and the food and beer were excellent and served very quickly. A bit noisy, but as a Sunday lunchtime there were small children lacking parental control. Not the pub's fault. Overall though provided an excellent Dad and daughter meal. Relaxed and comfortable.
Went here on Easter Sunday for a roast. Food was excellent, lots of good beer on tap, very friendly staff, everything very reasonably priced. It was quiet when we went but I could imagine it being a lot busier and noisier at times.
Pub classics as they always should have been done, homemade and very good.
We had a really good meal here on Sunday. It was Mothering Sunday so it was very busy, but service was great and the food was perfect. We knew that we needed to ask for extra gravy and we were pleased to get a full jug each
Lovely setting - traditional English pub with delicious food, great selection of ales, lovely edited wine list and great gin choices! Really nice atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon. High chairs provided which was great for bringing our daughter along. And they pour a great pint of Guinness!
Excellent, friendly service. Lovely food- huge Yorkshire puddings and excellent meat. Brilliant desserts too!
Absolutely brilliant lunch - the service was outstanding. Incredibly welcoming, lots of character and felt like I was at a friends house having lunch! Food was amazing, ordered way to much and still managed it all.
Will recommend to all friends and will definitely be back.
Thank you very much for curing a brutal hangover and feeding us so much food we were asleep by 7.30!
Great food and vibe. Staff really friendly too. Can't wait to try the Sunday Roasts. Make sure you book in advance.
Had a heavenly Sunday Roast here, the pork belly was melt in the mouth, with perfect crunchy crackling.
The peanut butter parfait was the best dessert I've had in ages - my friends were jealous! Lovely pub with delicious food made with love, care, and flair. We'll be back!
A beautiful building, spacious and comfortable eating areas, good food and delightful service makes this a great place for a Sunday lunch.
Each visit, I invite another person who becomes a fan. Love it. Starting to wonder about the crèche atmosphere.
Very family friendly and understanding of our two lively toddlers. Food as always is excellent and the staff lovely.
This pub is fast becoming my favourite in Leyton.
The menu is fantastic and constantly evolves.
The staff are LOVELY, so friendly, attentive and really down to earth.
Beer selection is huge and all tastes super fresh.
They have split the rooms really well so you can decide if you want to have a proper dining area if you want to chat or the main bar where you can watch sport and eat.
PERFECT - you are nailing it!
Really great night out with friends. Food was excellent quality and great value for money. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back soon.
Steve’s food was amazing on Valentine’s day.
I have now been there twice. Each time I dealt with different staff members and they were all great and personable. The food is delicious.
Great food, great atmosphere and great staff. We did the Escape Room upstairs and had dinner afterwards. Had a great time, would thoroughly recommend
Brilliant food here, can eat in the restaurant or bar (we've done both over time). Delicious roast (best in Leyton!) and staff are so friendly!
No doubt in my mind, this is Leyton's number 1 pub !!
Love this place! Its amazing atmosphere and lovely neighbourhood feel. Best pub in Leyton!
This is one of our favorite pubs in Leyton. The staff remembers us, despite not being a ‘regular’. They are always friendly and welcoming. The food is outstanding and the half roast chicken is plentiful. Love the gravy on the side, feels like a nice touch. We’ll be back soon!
Great Sunday Lunch. We will be back again soon :-)
Great food and great service, family friendly, plenty of space (queit when we were there). Food perhaps a bit pricey, but worth it as it was delicious, the lamb I had was fantastic.
Good choice of beers, and local for me so what's not to like. Will be returning for sure.
Great food on a Sunday,
Staff were excellent and very helpful, prices were very reasonable.
First time visitor from out of town. Friday evening with friend. Service was great. Food amazing and value for money. Would highly recommend.
Good food, friendly staff and very good value for money, ticks all my boxes for an establishmment where i'd go to eat and drink and local too.
I can't recommend The Coach & Horses enough. Such great food and not what you would expect from a local pub! I had the pork belly with beef fat fried chips and my brother had the roasted pumpkin with a side of broccoli and chili - both dishes truly delicious!
The staff were so friendly and did a great job in running the full restaurant with only two people! nothing was too much and they did it all with genuine smiles on their faces.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and would say for a quieter area, the back restaurant is better than the bar area. I can't wait for my next visit!!!!
We visited last Sunday for a family Sunday roast. We loved it. Although really busy our pre booked table was ready and our delicious food came out at lightning speed. The drinks were good too.
I get a real Walthamstow village feel here, I’m presuming a lot of the customers may have been from that way. We ventured over from Essex and will be back soon.
Really enjoyable night out. The food was excellent and good value for money. The drinks were very reasonably priced. The service was outstanding. Danielle our server (and everybody else's server) was outstanding. She was efficient, friendly and helpful, particularly when one of our party had specific dietary needs. We will be returning and recommending to others. Thank you.
